Re: J Orozco Guitars

I have one from 1978, type 8-u-133. Fingerboard ebony all through the neck so it will never bend. The guitar has been signed by Juan Orozco himself. On the back on the neck there is a serial number: 47251. Been playing on this guitar for 30 years now... Tone is soft, warm and sweet, although one can play flamenco or what have you on it. Love the instrument. I payed about 1350 Dutch guilders for it in 1978. To compare: a Ramirez costed 1800, but didn't match the sound of this Orozco.

Re: J Orozco Guitar 15-U-76 (1980)

Hello:
I am considering purchasing a J. Orozco guitar that I am borrowing to evaluate. I like it very much. But I don't know it's value. Asking price is $1000. Is this a good deal? The stamp on the inside of the neck is not completely readable. It looks like 7 digits: 011??41. The fourth and fifth characters are not legible, but the fourth might be a 6 or an 8 (a roundish character).
This guitar also has two hairline cracks on the front face, but is otherwise in near perfect condition. What is a good price for this? Thank you so much!
Gareth

Oops, something went wrong.
All the way from the Netherlands this message.
I was studying classical guitar at the end of the seventies and at that moment Orozco as a brand was introduced at the conservatory.
Good instruments that rivaled the spanisch guitar
builders of that time.
And a lot cheaper (half the price!)

I know there is a site where you can download all kinds of catalogues (americain site!) and
though Orozco is not mentioned directly they
do have a catalogue of these instruments and
prices of that time. Kohno seemed to have worked for the Takamine factories at that time.

I had contact with the Masaru Kohno site but they
claim to have never produced any model for Orozco. Look at Trilogy guitars for the model 8, 10 and 15 from the same time. Very comparable!

Last year I obtained a model 10 Orozco 1979 and
that was really great. Though I hace a lot of guitars this one's my baby!
And that includes my J. Ramirez 1974 clase 1a!

Have lot's of fun with it and maybe someday we'll
know more, Best Wishes, Noud

Re: J Orozco Guitars

Hi
I bought a Juan Orothco guitar, model/serial no 10-u-26, from The Spanish Guitar centre in Bristol, England in 1980.
I tried it against a Ramirez. The Ramirez was better but only slightly and over twice the price! I paid just over £400 sterling for it. My musical partner bought one exactly the same.
As far as I know Juan Orothco moved his business to New York and Japan. He made/makes strings as well.

Enjoy it
Merv
