: : Need to ID A real Black Dan Armstrong Lucite Cell #(323)945-2247 323)478-1809- Home Did they Reish Can I tell By the Pot's ? Please Ask for chris

: Ampeg made approximately 8 black lucite guitars and basses. This 1970 model can be found at Mars Music®

: Dan states "we bought some butyrate plastic sheets (black) to try it out as we understood that butyrate was 'moldable' - so we made 8 guitars and 8 basses and they sounded sort of dead, so we gave up the molding idea. Acrylic (plexiglass) shrinks some 20% in a mold, and would require more machining than starting with sheets!"

:
: Due to their rarity however, the black Dan Armstrong guitars and basses are highly sought after and very collectable instruments today. Despite their problems, they tend to fetch relatively high prices as a result.

: Hope this helps.

: GH

Going by a current auction (03/29/2007) all eight of the originals would be in the A4××D number range.

Cheers

Glen
