I have just got a yairi ym2 it is gorgeous with a lovely cedar top with waht i think is rosewood back and sides. however i cant find any info on it any were. it isnt listed on any websites i have come across. if anyone has any info please reply to this message or drop me an e-mail . cheers
Hello,! Would you want to sell your YM-2 ?
Thanks!
mm
Hey, I also bought a ym-2
Ym is for Yairi Master series and I got Mine in ’96
The sides and back are ovaonkal (SP?) it’s a great tone would from africa. Yairi bought it almost all up and so it’s quite rare
Great guitars- very light with a warmer cedar tone than the bright spruce top guitars- hope this helped
Since your last message, have you learned anything more about the YM2? I can’t seem to find much info. "Heard" that they were only made 1995-98. The "YM" designation is also unusual. Since there so few YM2’s around (any idea how many?), it is very difficult to compare them. How would you describe the sound of yours, perhaps compared to some well-known instruments?
Paul

Is this DY92 a Dreadnought,(the standard "box" guitar)or is it the "Lute" version(Bubble Shaped Back-built of strips of exotic wood with the stain(finish)a deep rich color in the center and darkening near the edges with a suede leather pad on the lap curve(where the guitar is rested on the thigh or leg).
I have been looking for this particular "Lute Guitar" for many years. If this is the Guitar you have would you send me a courtesy e-mail just to let me know what you intend to do with the instrument.
I have searched for information extensively on this guitar(Alvarez-Yairi Lute DY92) and once many years ago I saw a price guide listing a "Very Fine Condition" one at $1,990.00. If its the "Lute" its still very much worth it as is the Dreadnought.
I know that it sold for as much as $2,300 as far back as 1981. They (Alvarez-Yairi)have built these in limited production since 1976 but ended production in 1993.
Once again, if you would, please send me an e-mail to know what happens with it or what you intend to do.

Retail prices thorugh internet sites Im seeing around $125-159 and through auction sites as low as $60. Ive checked prices on mine for nearly 6 years now and the price will still fetch $125 if you’re savvy. Me? I have another model but similar, my 1st guitar, so why part for $100. I’ll keep it now and pass it on. Now offer $1000 and we’ll talk. LOL.

I need to know if there is anyone who can help me find out the value of this gibson guitar ES150-767123. If you know of anything please email me at [email protected] I am trying to get information for a friend. Thanks
I love this 1983 Yairi. It’s been all over the world with me and I’ve used it in solo acts in Japanese coffee houses, as well as in blues and rock bands and just for my own playing pleasure. I bought it new and I thought it pricey at the time, but now, after 18 years of lugging it around the world and the intonation is still perfect and the sound is still right on, well, it’s my baby. My husband has recently started picking up guitars. The Yairi is his first choice when he lays down the Les Paul I bought him to learn on. Beginners to experienced pickers- this is an amazing piece of work. Thanks Yairi and rock on!

Hello all,
I am new to your list and am interested in learning to play a guitar again after a long hiatus (too many years to
count). A friend of mine is offering to sell me a used Alvarez Yairi YP-45 for about
$500. Is this a fair deal? I can’t seem to find any internet reference for this model.
Thanks for your help,
Doug

Sorry, something went wrong. Basically I’ve no idea, but let me tell you this: I have a YC200 (1976, serialnr.8972, not in mint condition, rather good though & really brilliant tone & still getting better!)And I’m only interested in selling above 1.500,= (OK, that’s too much) You should hear it, the sound is incredable. So, your YC100, which was new a little cheaper, depending on condition, should be around 600 or so. But if you want to sell it, call/mail me first please, ##31 (0)512 842700

I’m a novice guitar player. I lucked-out with buying for $300, a DY73CS. + to ++ condition. Amaaaazzzing sound. Incredible overtones. Does anyone know anything about this guitar?
This guitar has a solid spruce top. Back and sides are mahogany. (not solid) Ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge, bone nut and saddle. The CS stands for cherry sunburst finish. Not many were made as they were quite pricey when new. (lots of abalone inlay) You got a great guitar at a super price.

Your guitar was produced in a limited quantity in the early 1970’s. The top is solid spruce, solid cypress back and sides. Ebony fingerboard and pegs. Rosewood purfing, headstock and bridge. Bone saddle and bridge piece. Best strings to put on them in my opinion are high tension strings. It sold for $315 in 1970. Hard to estimate value, but I would say minimum of $1500 today. I have one two that I bought several years ago for $285 in mint condition. I got most of the information from the St Louis headquarters for Alvarez Guitars. My opinion is that this guitar needs to be played with power, like most flamenco and spanish style players. You can’t play it like a classical one, this style just doesn’t do it any justice. This guitar wants to be heard.

The 5017 that I owned in 2000 had a cedar top, back and sides. It was a very light guitar. The serial number was 333. I sold it for 575.00 us. There is one for sale in Texas.

Billy, anything (like to Bruce) you can say about my YC200 (1976)
Greetings from Holland, Alko Deurman
I got a chance recently to play the cy-128ce, which is a yairi classical. Beautifully built guitar, cedar top, rswood b/s, ebony fretboard, and built in electronics. It’s expensive though…but I’ll keep my eye on this baby. I also own a dy84 which plays and sounds great.

If you are a novice…you might not know how good of deal you got. That guitar listed for around $700 in 1985. Its handmade and it is quality. Yairi guitars don’t have good resale value.(check ebay)…just trust your ears…that guitar will hold its own with the best of them.
I have #50542 and have yet to hear a nicer voice from other fine guitars. The girl comes alive with such resonance and crispness…what a treat!

I have a dy73cs from 1985 and it is an incredible guitar that stands up to any Taylor or Martin. I use Dean Markly ML bronze strings on it and it sounds incredible.
I have found it extremely difficult to locate any useful information on the older Takas and how other find they are ageing, playing.
I am frankly suprised takamine does not retain a history of their products; at least the successes if not the failures.
I am interested in F540S 1982 (ebonyfinger board) The 1992 Ltd edition cedar/koa, and an all mahogany 1981 dreadnought. All info gratefully accepted!
Cheers

I just traded a brand new Dean and a brand new Washburn plus $172 at a local pawn shop for a 1989 DY55 with matching case. The pawn shop had $599 on the Yairi. After all the wheeling and dealing, I had $700 in it. It is in very nice shape, sounds great, and I love it already, but it still can’t touch my 1970 Martin.
I have a pristine DY55 with an antique finish that I should sell for aproximately $700. That should be in the ballpark for a very nice guitar. Throw in some dings and scratches and I think $450-$550 would be closer to the market value. These are bargains right now, but I think their value will remain stable or increase–especially the really good examples.

I bought the slim version of this guitar in about 1978 for USD400. The sound was loud and punchy to the extent that I was scared to play it at home. Over the next ten years, the top adoped an ‘S’ shape and it became difficult to set up a good action.
I don’t have the guitar any more, but maybe you should check the flatness of the top before you buy one of these.

"Each of the Signature guitars is unique. Kazuo Yairi feels special pride for every guitar, so each instrument bears his signature on the top.
The exquisite headstock is inlaid with a combination of natural materials that make a statement of distinction. Maple, abalone, ebony, walnut and burled mahagony all are hand inlaid with pride. tghe warm solid cedar top, natural wood bindings and beautiful burled mahogany give the instrument its tonal character. The Yairi DY 61 and 62 are the same.. top wood is Red Cedar from Canada, sides and back are burled mahogany ( laminate) ebony finger board, 6 layer walnut and other woods on the binding and inlaid in the head stock.. satin finish..
The catalog I have says: Back & Side are Natural burled mahogony; Top is solid cedar and fret board is rosewood.

I don’t know if you can help me or not, but here goes. My brother has purchased a signed (by Peter Frampton) epiphone nighthawk or so that’s what I think it is. The guitar is solid red, neck and all, and has the same shape as the current nighthawk, and the same pickup configuration. It has a rosewood finger board with pearl dot inlays. Do you know if there is anyway for me to correctly identify this guitar, and also do you know what the guitar would be approximately worth?
PS: A used Nighthawk Special is normally rated at aprox. $ 300,- (sorry, forgot to mention it…).
It probabely is an ordinary Nighthawk Special. In the nineties they came in black and red. As far as I know they are still on sale in some stores. Without the signature the guitar is not very valuable. With the Frampton-signature: who knows ? It might well be an collectors item. A real Frampton-fan might pay a load. Don’t weather Frampton still has a fanclub, but you might try finding out !
