These Factory Special Run instruments are wrapped in the seldom seen antigua finish, which has sporadically been appearing since the late ’70s.

These finishes may not have been a hit among musicians in the past, but because of its sporadic appearance, the Antigua finish has become a sought after look. Now Fender will try once again to see if the distinctive appeal of the Antigua finish will translate into sales.

Underneath the polyester Antigua finish, these bass guitars have a traditional body made of alder wood, bearing the familiar double cut-away Jazz and Precision shapes. Aside from its unique finish, these limited run bass guitars also have vintage specs that match their classic era incarnations.

The Fender FSR Antigua Jazz Bass features a maple neck topped with a maple fretboard. It comes with 20 medium jumbo frets that run along its 34″ scale length. Its fretboard radius is measured at 7.25″. The Fender FSR Antigua Precision Bass also have maple fretboard on top of its modern “C” shape maple neck. Its 34″ scale length neck has 20 vintage style frets. The fretboard radius of the Antigua P-Bass is at 9.5″. Both basses have necks that are vintage correct and are very playable.

For pickups, the P-bass comes with a Standard Precision Bass Split Single-coil, while the Jazz Bass are equipped with a pair of Standard Vintage Alnico Magnet Jazz Bass Single-coils. The pickups are controlled via traditional volume and tone knobs. Both bass guitars feature chrome hardware, a standard vintage 4 saddle bridge and a synthetic bone nut.

As you can see from the specifications, nothing much was changed in the sound department, they both still sound like their respective selves. These basses simply offer an alternative look, which could provide a mojo boost for bassists that love these classic Fender bass instruments.

The two Fender FSR Antigua Bass guitars are currently being sold by online retailers for $749.99. Guitar players can also check out the FSR Antigua versions of the popular Strat and Tele.
