Hi Folks, Have you ever seen or heard of an Musician from 78/79 with a tremolo bridge? I found one for sale and got some pictures from the guy who sells it but he does not have any information on the guitar. Looking trough the internet I did not find any info about a guitar looking like this. Have anyone any more information to share to me? I appretiates any comments on the guitar.

:no man this isn´t the original bridge. ibanez never released a musician with tremolo bridge, and you can easyly see that the color of bridge is silver, but the other hardware of the guitar is original gold colour, my recomendation is not to buy this guitar, is just ruined with that modification

      sorry for my poor english
      Bye!

      Jamman

      Hello,
I just purchased a Ibanez Les Paul Sunburst on ebay for $450. without the case. If it is the law suit era it can be worth more. (early 70’s) You cal tell by the head stock inlays. If the inlay on the headstock are 4 diamond shaped inlays, it would be pre law suit.

: I have a black Ibanez circa 1970ish Les Paul copy. It is black with pearl inlay and gold humbuckings and tuning stuff. I have no use for this instrument anymore and wish to sell it. What would an instrument like this be worth on the open market? It is in decent shape with original case. Didn’t Ibanez get sued over this copy?

Yes, Ibanez did get sued as well as Greco, Fenandez, Aria and many more. Would you be willing to send me a picture(s) of the guitar? Just let me know how much you are asking or I can make you an offer?

      1. Re: Ibanez Les Paul copy 70's
        col

No, only Ibanez were mentioned in the 1977 Norlin lawsuit and it was settled before it went to court (Ibanez changed the headstock design, which was the focus of the legal action). So only Ibanez guitars pre-1977 are "lawsuit" guitars.

My Ibanez les paul is in prestine condition and I would love to find out the value, the guitar I feel plays better than an original paul, its not as heavy and the hummbuckin’s sound the same if not better, honestly didn’t know about no law suit but wouldn’t mind finding out how much worth and how to sell legitamately, true dealer or someone big advocate.
        let me know,
        Bryan Steele

    D Roupell

Just bought one of these beauties and the guy thinks it is a 1970 model. i’m not so sure. Is the serial no the only way of checking its identity?
    cheers

    1. Re: Ibanez Les Paul custom
      M Horton

commonly the first two numbers in the serial are the year.
before 1976 Ibanez guitars did not have serial numbers.
So if there is no serial number it was made before 76 and the only other way to tell is by the body style and construction. That’s all I know.

      1. Re: Ibanez Les Paul custom
        roland

Mine is a Black custom. Serial # L752761. It has the Gibson style headstock and inlays. My dad bought it for me new in ’75. Unfortunatly it has a bolt on neck. Prices weren’t discounted much in 1975 and I remember it was $350. A few months after I got it they got in one just like it except it had a set neck for $450. I’ve allways been sick that I didn’t wait for that one but who knew?

        1. Re: Ibanez Les Paul custom
          col

There’s nothing wrong with the bolt-on necks. A good bolt-on neck is every bit as good as a set neck (direct contact between wood,, no glue involved). Ask Fender. My ’76 Ibanez LP neck is as solid as a rock. The sustain issue is a myth. Set necks are prettier though and can be shaped to get in the way less.

I have a les paul custom made in 1975 with a serial number. So they must have made them prior to 1976 with serial numbers. My serial number is #I753025 so it was made in September 1975.
