    Hey bulsara,

If you’re concentating on you guitar playing that should be more like a pillow push than punting on the Cam. SB

    Hi bulsara,

If you bought the guitar from a Fender dealer and you still have the sales receipt you should be able to get a replacement neck free of charge. I’d say this happend because Fender used some pretty crappy wood for their necks in the 90’s. My Tele is from the same time period and it’s all I can do to keep the truss rod compensating for some pretty radical shifts in relief. Make Fender make this right. SB

So I suppose you’ve got to play both left and right handed to take full advantage of this instrument. 1bassleft, this might just be the perfect starter guitar for your son. So what if he gives it up, you’ll still have 2 necks to wear out on your own. SB

OK, here is my first thought. I’m sure James builds some fantastic guitars http://www.jamestrussart.com/ although I ‘ve never had the opportunity to touch one. However, “Rust” as a finish strikes me as a bit bizarre. That’s the same finish I have on my old Ford Explorer! SB

Yeah, I know what you mean Lee. The wood lover in me thinks there is some pretty awful lumber under that creamy burst finish. Reminds me of the “antique” furniture finish I saw as a youth. The notion of reissueing this finish strikes me as demented; let’s let the charm of the past stay in the past. SB

Hey Mach, I think I can tell you more than you currently know about your Harmony acoustic.

First, you guitar was built in the 1970’s. I have a 1973 Harmony catalog and the highest model number is H6659 so your guitar most likely appeared in 1974-75.

The 66 in the model number doesn’t refer to year. H6 stands for “Harmony 6 string” and 691 is the model number. Similarly, a number like H1269 is a Harmony 12 string model 69. This also works with basses “H4”, Mandolins “H8”, Banjos “H4 or H5” and Ukuleles “H4”

I’ve got some 1960’s Harmony catalogs posted on my website VintAxe.com although I haven’t uploaded the 73 yet. If you are interested in seeing it let me know and I’ll put it up for you. Cheers, SB

“Take out the belt sander”! Lee please. Let me guess, you’ve probably also ripped up your olive green shag carpet, thrown out your orange velour chairs and replaced your harvest gold appliances. Surely you know a time capsule when you see one. BTW, I’ll take a burst over an antigua any day, but they do represent an era don’t they? SB

    Hi Sarah,

To my knowledge no one has put together a vintage guitar site devoted to Washburn instruments. I’ve got a few Washburn catalogs on my site VintAxe.com but most of it is 1980’s material. I’ll be a little more optimistic than lee_UK and suggest you might hope to get $300-$325 US for your instrument but Lee’s fundamental message is correct. The world was flooded with inexpensive Japanese acoustic guitars in the 1970’s and these days supply is generally much greater than demand unless you’ve got something really special. I bought my little Yamaha F series guitar in the early 70’s and I still have a vivid image of the acoustic guitar room in my local music shop being covered on all walls with Japanese import acoustics. And I’m talkin’ setting sideways in bins, not hanging on the wall. Lot’s of Folk singer wannabes without much money in those days and I was one of them. I still think I look a bit like Neil Young! Good luck with your info. search. SB

    Hi sparkykink,

I can tell you what the 2005 VG Price Guide says your guitar is worth. They say $1,300-$1,500 US. Of course, this price is based on retail sales in the US so I don’t know how well this price generalizes to the UK market but it should give you some idea as to value. SB

    Hey emomih,

I don’t think a site about you and your music really fits with what talljackhole is looking for. Just an observation for people that may be using this thread to find information about guitars rather than emomih. SB
