Thanks for the feedback, guys – it’s much appreciated. We played outside for four hours last night for a local street dance, and all the originals went over very well. That particular song was a big hit with the crowd.

When our CD is done, I’ll send you both a copy. 😀

Hey, doesn’t Rick Olack play a Fender Starcaster? Not enough knobs for my tastes.

In my neck of the global woods, Tom Petty’s “American Girl” always gets the ladies going. Rick Springfield 😥 tunes are good too if you can stomach playing them. “Jesse is a friend…” SCREAM!!!!

Hey JohnnyLondinium, I hope you’d also give your student a brief speech about the responsibilities that follow when the skirts are going your way. Also warn him that every woman – no matter how calm, cool, and collected on the outside – has a deep vein of pure madness running just below the surface. 😉
The way the neck joins the body really irks me.
The WHOLE THING irks me. I instantly pictured some low-budget mullet-headed d-bag in zebra spandex taking himself WAY too seriously while playing bad speed metal.

Is that a cucumber in his trousers? 😉

I thought that Line-6 amp had a bunch of digital effects and some user-programmable presets. If you’re unhappy with the quality of the effects built into the amp – speaking in most general terms of units in the price range of the average guitarist – any sort of guitar multi-effect unit is just going to give you more of the same sound.

I like versatility and adjustability of my pedal board, and I can’t imagine being locked into a digital preset while playing live. Plus, you can add and remove units as needed. If everything is held in place with Velcro, the likelihood of cords shorting out is greatly diminished.
So are you going to try and make these for the general public at any point?
I spent some time out in the woodshop (garage) after work yesterday making preparations for a “production run” of 10 of these stands. I’ve changed the design just a bit – folks like the golden ratio – and I’m going to do a better job with the final sanding and finish.

Also, they’re going to be signed and numbered to “trick” the buyer into thinking they’re purchasing a piece of art – I’ve learned volumes from the many “optimistic eBayer” threads on this forum! 😉

Sure, there’s a copy of the retail photo here:

And a picture of mine located here:

It’s a “special edition” standard Stratocaster with rear mounted electronics, and it was one of the models produced to commemorate Fender’s 60th anniversary. Right out of the box, it had 4 frets that needed to be dressed; and – like my other Mexican strat – it’s getting new parts including bridge saddles, tuners, etc. I’m saving my pennies for a new black switch end, too.

A banjo, indeed! With this new band, we’ve been hiring solo acoustic players to take up the first hour of every show. It lessens the drudgery of a 4 hour gig, and it also gives us a chance to present new music and artists to local audiences. Matt Ray started that show off for us with a variety of old blues, folk, and vaudeville – he’s very entertaining and a technically proficient player – and the stool, acoustic guitar, and banjo are his. Also, the lead singer / rhythm player of my band switches off between his tele and an acoustic guitar. If you ask him, “What would Hootie do?” he’ll get really mad. 😉

The red strat has a Seymour Duncan J.B. Jr. in the bridge position with two stock single coils, and the blue strat has a S. D. Hotrails in the bridge. Despite my negative opinions about Fender pickups, I’ve found that if used properly those single-coils in the neck positions can actually have some sparkle. The J.B. doesn’t sound very good at first, but after my tubes really start to cook – and hour or so into the show – it sounds amazing.

Actually, it was “field tested” last weekend in a “professional” environment. In this photo, it’s holding my red strat:

Other than being hauled around with the other cords and such atop my pedal board, it needed no special consideration.

Admittedly, it wouldn’t fare well in an encounter with a large speaker cabinet. 😉

Just a few things related to this topic:

    – Although not referenced on the Guitargeek site, I recall seeing a photo of The Edge’s rig from either the Rattle and Hum tour OR the Zooropa tour (not sure which) of a double rack loaded with 20 or 30 different units – very elaborate – and although I like the way he plays; I still wondered if it was all really necessary.

    – I enjoyed the clips from Bass Day UK – GOOD stuff. You Brits are on the cutting edge of SO much in the art world, but I was unable to find a t-shirt online. 😉

    – On Friday as a tribute to David Gilmore I went to the local “super store” and picked up a black t-shirt (XL) for $4.99. Apparently I picked the magic one, because our gig on Saturday went VERY well. At one point there were 50 or more people dancing in a nearly tribal manner, and a Canadian vixen – ouch! – in town for the end-of-the-year festival at the local ski hill dropped her business card into my pedal board. Manitoba Hydro looks a nice place to work. 😉

Ha! At 9:00 p.m. (gmt -5) last night our local public television station was showing Pink Floyd: Pulse. I’d never seen it before, and it was very good. I was amused by the fact that, while standing on a million dollar stage with tens of brilliant musicians in the midst of a huge production, Mr. Gilmore was wearing just a plain black t-shirt and jeans.

I decided that will be my uniform when we take the stage on Saturday. 🙂
Toco, “this” sound strikes me as chorus, delay and phaser.
Yes, 1Bass, clearly no overdrive. I posted “this” as an example of the dizzying variety of effects produced by the Line 6 FM4 referenced above. Tweaked slightly and with a bit of overdrive added, it would surely blow what’s left of the minds of the local pub patrons. 😉 The link is to one of the mp3’s on the musician’s friend page.

The band in which I played during my college days covered “Sanctuary,” and my trusty Arion Chorus pedal was the only effect used for into – good ‘nuff! Instead of trying to kick on a phaser, chorus, and delay for “this,” I’d prefer to hit only one button.

Also, it’s funny that you should make reference to the Guitargeek site – I spent nearly 2 hours yesterday. It’s a great resource and just darned interesting.

Thanks, 1bass! That’s kind of what I suspected – thanks for the input. Although the sound files featuring limitless sustain through the clean channel are tempting, it seems to me that a lot of artists have developed their signature sounds by embracing the limitations of their clean channels instead of negating them electronically.

As far as the other pedals are concerned, I’m just going to buy them and try them – I’ve got to have THIS sound!
What on earth is so interesting about us Blighties to your lasses?
I wish I knew, 1bass. If Jamie Oliver from the Food Network knocked at the door, the Mrs. would disappear so fast my head would spin. 😕
