I bought a fender strat with a serial number that starts with MN. I can’t find any website that can tell me what kind of strat that is. There are 6 numbers after the N. I thought maybe the M stands for made in Mexico, but that is just a guess. Nobody can help me so far. I appreciate any help that you can give. Thanks
This popular thread has been given its own page : Re: can’t reference fender strat serial ….a little help inside
It is a california series. It was not assembled in mexico, just painted there. They are actually rare and good guitars.

Other Fender Serial Number Schemes.
Fender has recently (in the last 20 years) introduced LOTS of different serial numbers schemes, depending on the country the Fender was made (USA, Mexico, Japan, Korea, etc). Not all schemes are covered here! Sorry, since I do not collect new Fenders, I don’t really keep track of these things. Below are some examples of letter prefixes used in recent serial number schemes.
V : this prefix used for US made "vintage reissue" models, 1982 to present.
25 + 4 digits : 1979 to 1980 Anniversary Stratocaster.
AMXN : "AMX" means assembled in Mexico with American parts,
"N" is the decade (1990s).
MN : "M" means Mexican made, "N" is the decade (1990s).
C : this prefix used in 1982.
D : this prefix used in late 1981 to early 1982.
GO : this prefix used in the early 1980s.
SE : this prefix means a Signature Edition, 1982 to present.
4 digit decal on back of peghead: custom order model 1987 to present.
My family recently acquired an old, acoustic guitar. It was made by "Airline", and is in fair condition. I was hoping to attain some information about its possible origin. Do you have any idea of the dates that the acoustics were produced?

This trademark has been identified as a House Brand of the Montgomery Wards department store chain. Author/researcher Willie G. Moseley indicates that the unique body design is proprietary to the Airline brand. Models can be found constructed of both Res-O-Glas (a hollow fiberglass body) and wood.
Valco began building solid body wood instruments in 1952, and built fiberglass body electric guitars from 1962 to 1966. The basic Airline wood body guitar came in sunburst finishes; and the deluxe Res-O-Glas two piece modeled bodies came with either one or two pickups, a wood bolt-on neck, and 20 frets on the 24 1/2" scale neck. The top of Airline headstocks, just like the Nationals, ran low-to-high from the left to the right. Not that it matters with regard to playability and tone, but Supros dipped the headstock in the opposite way.

This popular thread has been given its own page : SRV Strat serial numbers
I wonder as well.. My SRV serial # is SE 926631 (the SE stands for Signature Edition) – which would seem to indicate a production year of ’89 or ’90 when I know for a fact that this model was not introduced into production until ’92. Maybe I am in posession of a prototype. Stevie Ray Vaughn did indeed collaborate on this guitar model before his death in 1990. If anyone can offer any insight – it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks……
I too am looking for some insight into the SRV serial no. Anyone? From what I have been able to gather the only way to determine the age is by taking the neck off. Would appreciate any info re the Fender SE serial no.s
this is the only info ive seen on srv serial #’s http://www.stevieray.com/srv-strat.htm
however, MY srv sig strat is a SN XXXXXX not SE XXXXX
Why do all srvs have SE #’s and mind has a SN#
What are some of the SRV Signature Strat’s serial numbers if anyone knows? Is a serial number of SZ2108843 significant in anyway? Or do the fender people just slap any old serial number on the guitars?

i have an interesting question regarding a guitar my parents gave me, i wanna know what type it is, i have seen nothing like it, i suppose it is a japanese import… it has an input for a patch cord and an audio video cord input. as well it is white, with a marbelled purply brown faceplate, with a metal thing attached on the inside, a square? don’t know what it is for, it has two switches, it’s head is wierd shaped, with sort of a gibson styling, (pegs on either side) any help or ideas or photos will be happily accepted
i’m looking for information on a ovation ultra gs-1414-8 and a blackjack double cutaway semi-hollow body. the blackjack guitar says on the bolt on neck cover japan but no model or serial number. any information on who the parent company of blackjack was or is. if the guitar has any value and if it would be worth keeping. on the ovation ultra gs, it is a solid body i need info on the materials used in making it, the pick-ups that were used the years it was in production, and an estimation of value.

Hi! I’ve never tried to find out about a guitar I picked up at a garage sale in 1990, and now when I’d like to, the info is scarce.
It’s an Emperador classical, and has the number 272 on the lip.
It sounds good and is in good condition. How old is it? Does the company still exist? And, anything else. . .. thanks!

I, too, have an old Emperador guitar – I inherited mine. It is a 12 string, and after being in storage for years, was still in tune. The model number and serial number have been scratched out. I can not find any information about these guitars, either. If you find something, please let me know. Thanks!

Hi Bob,
I owned an ELK Les Paul Custom copy around 1975/76. It was a 2nd hand deal, so I suggest it was built in the early 70’s. My former guitar dealer told me they were built in Japan by Aria as a second brand, but I never found out if it’s true. It was a mid-class guitar this time, unlikely to an Ibanez or the original Gibsons. It had a set neck which was wonderful to play, but unfortunately a semi-hollow-body. So it was light like a Strat but it didn’t gave you the sustain of the "Paula".
I sold it 1982 – but in our days I would like to have it back (just for nostalgic reasons). But I gave up playing and so life goes on….. (pls excuse me for my very poor english – but this mail did about 5’000 mls from Germany to reach your mailbox…..)Keep on rockin’ Frank

I have a Ventura ES-175 copy, no documentation. Does anyone know anything about this guitar? Pickups are a cross between P-90’s and Filtertron (I suspect, the electrics are dodgy and I am fixing them this week). Otherwise, sounds cool & very playable. Email me for pic. Thanks, Jamo
I think i recently purchased the same guitar. It looks like a 175, it has the old pickups and it has a lot of switches. it sounds and plays good. It says Ventura on the headstock and made in Japan on the neckplate.

:I bought one at a local pawn shop for 78.00 tabacco burst-love the finish on this axe. made in japan on heel plate. plays good sounded ok but not like a humbuckers so i tore one apart and couldnt belive what i found. It was a single coil configuration that was made from scraps, wow it looked like it could of been a magnet dropped in a barrel of bolts and washers and pulled out sodered in a HB cover. I replaced with mighty mite motherbuckers. I have to say i was impressed with this one!!!! I own a LesPaul Classic and though its not near the guitar, it will save me from have to hoover over my Paul at gigs!!!
i actually have the same problem, i recently came into possession of a lotus les paul, i got it for free, and i have no idea of value or year, it still has the inspection sticker and signature on the sticker, and the made in india sticker, and serial number j3230, any ideas where to look?
: TRYING TO FIND INFO ON THE LOTUS LES PAUL EDITION HAS SERIAL NUMBERS 844164. WHERE CAN I FIND INFO ON WHEN AND WHERE MADE AND SOME IDEA OF VALUE?
A friend of mine gave me his in trade for some old Wilson golf clubs. This baby has been through the ringer, but it has held togther like a Sherman tank! Mine is very rare, in that it is a glossed plywood finish with no paint and a maple fretboard. I replaced the hardware, got the frets filed, replaced the nut, threw in a GFS classic staggered pickup in the bridge position, had a full professional setup done and this thing is as good if not better than many Gibson Les Pauls that I have ever played. This thing is the Holy Grail for me. I absolutely love it. The tone is very sweet and the sustain is better than any of my Stratocaters! Hold on to that guitar! A lot of people are snatching up those Lotus axes and other late 70’s early 80’s Japanese guitars because their value is now being fully realized.
Good luck and ROCK ON!

the real answer is it’s worth what someone will pay for it. I got mine at a pawn shop for 250 with original hardshell case. Needed a bit of setup and i’m not perfectly happy with the tuners and the pickups are a bit muddy but the bones of a great guitar are there. at least until i get me Gibson LP. it’s the closest to the real thing i’ve played….

My daddy died and let a Lotus and a Squier Fender guitar the Lotus is all wood finish guitar. the Squier/Fender is beautiful deep navy and white with two tone wood (one side rosewood) on the handle. I cannot fine any model or serial number anywhere. It is a beautiful guitar. I have not taken t apart because I don’t know where to start looking for a number. It is in excellent shape and I hard that only the high end models were made out of clear wood. I just don;t know how much to sell it. Not trying to make a killing but do not want to sell it too low either. Just a fair price. It is electric acoustic. At one time there was a VN9 something on it. That sticker is now gone and I cannot find out what happened to it. I also have a Squier Fender guitar made in 97 that I have no number on and it is lovely. Any infor on where to find that number? I need to sell that one also.

Hi!
I just bought a sixties Emperador semi-hollow from Ebay, haven´t got it yet but I found some facts about the company. It´s originally a japanese manufacturer fouded somewhere in the early sixties. In the beginning their guitar production was supervised by some american guitarbuilder/bussinessman. They were sold by some american market chain. Later they´ve been made in Korea. I don´t know if the company still exists?
I was just given an Emerador acoustic guitar from my Father-In-Law who said it was given to him in 1970. I believe it’s from the late 60’s but there’s nothing that says what model it is and I don’t see a S/N either but it plays and sounds really nice. There’s a pickup that’s been added to it.
Here’s a link that mentions the company.

I have a 1966 or 67 Kalamazoo, single pick-up electric. Were these guitars made by Gibson. If anyone has any info on the history of these guitars, including approx value I would appreciate any help. Guitar is red in colour.
The Kalamazoo guitar was a budget line of guitars made by Gibson which closed the plant in 1984. It was then bought by some of the former craftsman of the Kalamazoo plant. They started their own company that still produces guitars today, it is called the Heritage Guitar Company. Your guitar is worth only what a collector is willing to pay for it. Someone might give you a few hundred on Ebay, give it a shot.

It depends on the shape it’s in, but retail could be as high as $4500. Of course, wholesale or a private party transaction would be less. Let me know if you want to sell

The VI had been reissue in 95 by fender japan too but now it became rare …. good luck
Aren’t we all!!! I have used the net for god knows how long and can only track down japanese jaguars for around $500. However, being english this doesn’t help. The best place in London for guitars retail Jags at £900. So please don’t complain. The best offers come from Japan itself and those are for a couple of hundred dollars new (£500)

Someone got into wiring, looking for wiring diagram re active system
A friend of mine was given one of these in "pristine" condition. He was offered $750.00 for it at a local music store. Is this a fair price? It seems low, even for a music store…
