I have a 68 or 69 chet atkins country gentleman. It is in mint condition. I would like to know the blue book value on this guitar??
i recived a gretsch as a gift, it’s a hollowbody with f holes and i was told that it was sold originally at sears for about 35 bucks. any info on production dates and general knowledge would be great, possibly 4 sale thanx
Hi there,
If your guitar is a hollow-body with f-holes, you should
be able to look into the left f-hole and see the label with
the serial number. If you can post it, I will tell you what
year it was made. One thing is for certain, it sold new for
about 10 times the 35 dollars.

I do not know the value of this guitar, but if you can find out a price, I am interested in purchasing it. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, I’m still waiting on information about my gretsch value. lol.
I recently purchased a 1971 porsch pumkin orange roc jet for $45 at an estate sale. What is the value of this guitar? The guitar plays, sounds, and feels great. There are minor flaws on the finish, no serios dings, but quite a bit of scratch’s on the back and a replaced tuning peg on the headstock. The guitar is very pretty and the clear-coat on the finish still has a brilliant shine. There was no case or strap, SO IF ANYONE HAS ONE PLEASE E-MAIL ME. I am just curious to know what the value is, I am not looking to sell. Also, what would the value be if it were immaculate with case and original strap? Thank you for your time. I hope you are all as happy with your Gretsch’s as I am with mine 🙂
Hey Ty, this is brown. wassup?
I was willed from my late father his 1969 Gretsch "Country Gentelman". I also have the hard case
that looks great as well. I was wondering what this type of Gretsch is worth. If you could help in this
area that would be great.
William
I have a mint 56′ Gretsch 6131 just acquired from the original owner.
The guitar is absolutely original and mint with the original case, setup card, price hang tag and triple signed inspection tag.
The condition of the guitar is a solid 9.0 leaning higher, with an 18000 series serial # on the sticker in the cavity.
The case is even in a solid 8.0 condition.
It needs a new home as I need to pay for my health insurance.
I am about to ebay this in the 3k range, much lesser guitars are listed on gBase for way more money, like near 4k.
If you are interested, please let me know soonest as this has to move now.
Thanks

You tried Gretschpages.com or justradios.com?
: ‘Still searching for a Gretsch 6166 Fury schematic. Anybody else have any luck? (…it’s worth some money.)
So, maybe if we all get together and exchange circuit photos, we could piece this schematic puzzle together.
…I’ve got a 6166 Fury that is almost original. There were a couple mods, …but minor (like the speaker plug and wire) and one near the on/off (that I’m currently trying to decipher). Maybe your Fury is original in ways that mine is not …and vice versa.
Does that sound like the beginnings of the Gretsch Fury Amp Club …or what?
So, leave a response. Let’s decide how we might exchange photos and whatever we might know in order to re-create the damn schematic. Yes?
…It’s definitely worth it.

I have a 1953 Tennessean that I’ve hade sence new. I have had it to the factory to be re-built once and then just this last month I desided to renew the volum pots. In dismantling and changing out the pots, some of the solder connections became dislodged and I havent found the right hook-up to be able to restore them to their right connections. I need a shematic that will tell me where each wire end should go. So far, I’ve had to dismantel and try to ‘trial-and-error’ their hook-up. It isn’t working.
Anybody know where I could find a wireing chaematic.
Looking for a 1966-68 green Gretch Viking.
I have a 1967 Gretsch Viking (green) with original case. Let me know if you are still looking.
I recently picked up a gretch electromatic and noticed that there is no visable serial #. The guitar plays like butta though, and holds a tune well, better than the ephipone l.p. custom flame-top I just brought recently! Can anyone tell me where I can get any info as to what wood it is made of, or when it was made, ect. thank you,
Scott
:I have a Gretch Eletromatic and it also plays as good as my Fender USA telecaster deluxe plus and Fender USA Stratocaster. It cost me about the same as a Mexican Strat. I have dated it to 2004 by using the no,s on the headstoke, ignoring the first couple of digits which I think are production batch and model identity.
My model seems to be one of the uncataloged type refered to on the Gretch Electromatic info pages, I think it is a copy of the (duojet) firebird but in a cadilac green. It has a bigsby fitted with gold furnishings. I dont know what type of wood was used in your guitar as I can see no picture of it but mine is of hollow mahogany and is still a heavy beast with incredible sustain. I use it for all kinds if music from country to beatles who used gretch duo jets) right up to guns and roses type Blah Blah!.
I get incredible sounds at high volumes and use my Marshall amp to control the tones.
For a cheaper end guitar you cant expect to get the quality of tone of the £2,000 guitars but the Chinese who are now making them do a rucking good job. The overall finish of my guitar is 100%, the sustain is around 90%, Tone 100% but the best thing of all is that I can twiddle lead like the devil on the reduced fingerboard scale, where I would be struggling on the tele or strat so anything like stairway to heaven or gary moores I remember Paris is always played on this fast becoming favourate guitar. I have even had thoughts of selling the strat and tele and getting a Brian Seltzer or similar model

I cannot find any information about my guitar. Can anybody tell me anything about it.(pick-ups, wood, any photo’s?) How do I know what year it was made in? its history? has it any value?
I’ve found that Guitar Heaven in Pawtucket, RI is really helpful with instant Gretsch appraisal. I’ve got a lot of vintage stuff and those people have always given me a fast answer and really good, fast service in buying and selling. I don’t have their phone # handy right now as I am in the UK. They are on the net, I’m sure, because they used the net to sell stuff for me when I lived near them.
I have a ’61 Silver anniversary I would like to sell along w/ a Gretsch amp and case. Everything is mint and works like it did new. Does anyone have an idea what this would be worht or a place to find out? Thanks!

I had one for many years. I gave it to a friend who then sold it for about 1/10 of its true value!!! These were originally made for Sam Goody Stores, that’s why they have "G" holes instead of the standard "F" holes. Only 50 were made.

I have a Gretch model # 7609, Ser# 4-8103. It is a double cutaway with one three way switch on the top cutaway, master volume on the bottom and volume and tone for each pickup below the stud mounted single-piece tailpiece. The body is about 1 5/8 inches thick, arched top, semi hollow, orange color, with a black pickguard. I’d like to know what the name is, year, what pickups it came with, and any other info. The 2 humbuckers aren’t original( I don’t think Gretch would cover the wire splices with masking tape, what a moron huh?). Thanks very much.
I think its a 78 broadkaster. gretchpages.com has a history section with catalogs from 1978…it shows an exact picture of the one I have. EXCEPT its red instead of orange

Broadkaster mar "78" japan made, I have one.
I have encountered one for sale. Condition: poor. Anyone know it’s value. Two Humbuckers; skirted and ridged tone and volume knobs do not appear original. Neck seems "thru", however, small plastic plate at neck/body joint concealing a truss adjustment? Very curious.
That would be a Broadkaster. The knobs are black plastic with numbers on them, correct?

Hi. I just looked at a model #6124 today. According to Gruhn’s Guide To Vintage Guitars, this model should be a 1962,based on the color and seriel number. However,it is stated in the guide that Gretch seriel numbers are not very reliable. It lists your model(#6125) as being a smoke green color, but the seriel number doesn;t match other information given. It states that the Anniversary model was manufactured from 1958 through 1970. Your number indicates that it was made in 1954. See what they mean about seriel numbers? If what I looked at today is truly a ’62,one might suspect your’s may be a ’63. Maybe. The one I looked at was also a single pickup, and the picture in the book of the pickup (a G with an arrow through it) indicates what they call a low end model. I have no information on price. I hope this info helps and doesn’t confuse the issue! Good luck,Mark.

I am looking for a Gretch Astro-Jet. I sold mine in the early 70s and am looking to replace it.
Hey Gary,
I just played an astrojet at Guitar Center in Rancho Cucamonga CA. It played great, good neck, paint was checkked and nicked pretty bad. I was trying to find more info on this guitar when I saw your post. You might call them if still looking. Info you send me woulld also be appreciated. Thanks
Gary I used to own one in the 70’s – A red one that I sold at red bank nj guitar shop in ’85. it took me till this year when i stumbled across a ’72 ibanez pf200 to find a guitar i like as much. BTW if anyone knows what happened to the red astro , please let me know
I had a Gretsch Astro Jet when I was in high school and college. It was red on the front and black on the back. Four tuners on the top and two on the bottom of the peg head. It also looked as if the peg head broke off or almost broke before I bought it, as it had crack seams and who ever tried to fix it didn’t do a very good job. Let me know if it was the one and let me know how much they are worth. Thanks, Roy
I own what I am most certain is a "beast" model but I have no idea what year or model it is.There is no serial # anywhere. It has a bolt-on neck, walnut finish two humbuckers, a black pickguard and a single cutaway body, yet I have never seen a pic of one quite like it.Can anyone help me i.d. this mystery beast ? thanx
Hi There,
You have what I would call a Series II BST-1000.
The Series I was made from 79-80, and had a white
pickguard, slightly higher hump on the left upper
bout, and had the chrome covered (generic Japanese)
pickups, and had black knobs like Fender amp knobs.
The Series II had gold LP Speed knobs, the black pickguard,
and had yellow-topped DiMarzios.
You can find your serial number by removing the
pickguard – it is on a label pasted on the bottom of the
routed-out area beneath the pickguard.
These are really nice guitars – I have one, and have
replaced the DiMarzios with a set of TV Jones TV Trons,
and installed a Kahler Flyer vibrato…so now, I can
get that vintage Gretsch sound for a small fraction
of what an older Gretsch would cost. The mahogany body
is very light, and the neck has a zero fret like classic
Gretches.
Good luck with your axe.
Jim

can’t really tell you much other than a photo would help. or research GOOD gretsch luthiers and have them look at it.
try looking for gretsch vintage parts on the net, look at names, there are a lot big gretch names out there, and find someone who you feel you can trust making a guess, or they may know. as far as the year, you’ll only probably get a semi-ok guess.
I have a "Dorado" that is produced by gretsch, can anyone tell me where I can find ANY info. on it?
hey i’d be really glad if anyone out there could get me some back groung info on this guitar model 6189 (of serial number 20755 if u can manage) or if u could just tell me a site where i could find out where it was made, the date that this guitar was made how many were made etc. ur help would be greatly appreciated. thank u.
the ’55 to ’57 models are built on the exact same body as the 6120 Chet Atkins of the era, and are effectively a single-pickup version, without the tremolo, binding or other frills. Just something to think about…
Hi. according the the serial number 20755, this guitar was built in 1956. probably all Gretsch’s with serial numbers 17000-21000 were all built in 1956.
1949 to 1965 Gretsch Serial numbers are stamped in INK on the inside, visible through the sound holes or on the Gretsch label.
anyway, your guitar. from the info you gave i believe that it is a 1956 Streamliner.
your guitar should be similiar to these specs:
should have a Maple top with:
TUNERS: Grover StaTite
PICKUPS: One DeArmond
CONTROLS: One tone and one volume
BRIDGE: Melita
TAILPIECE: Gretsch trapeze "G" tailpiece
Double bound top and back, single bound "f" holes
"Electromatic" on peghead but no zigzag pattern
Block or humptop fingerboard inlays
COLORS: it came in a Jaguar Tan or Bamboo Yellow top with Copper mist back. Jaguar Tan 6189 offered as special order. umm… anything else…

in 1955 the 6189 turned into the Streamliner and in 1959 Streamliner was discontinued. but… Re-introduced in 1969 as a thinbody double cutaway model.

Where is it produced? OK-card is signed by K.C.Kramer and Dean Porter.
Thanks!

THE GUITAR WAS MADE IN 1979 THEN CHET WENT GIBSON
first, hyphenated serial numbers are from 1973 to 1981.
ok, now 7-9297.
1 or 2 digits before hyphen = month (1-12) – it was built in month 7 – July
First digit after hyphen = last digit of year – 9
Last 3 digits = rank of instrument – 297 which means it was the 297th guitar made
so… it was made july, 1979 and the 297 instrument made
hope that helps… if i’m wrong please let someone know…
i’m 99% sure this is right though.
FRED GRETSCH MODEL # 6131 SER. # 20495 WITH MATCHING CASE & AMP COLOR IS BLUE & GRAY WITH WHITE SPECS, AMP # 75590 WITH FOOT VIDRATOR . GUITAR HAS DUAL PICKUPS .YEAR PURCHASE IN 1956 DON’T KNOW THE DATE IT WAS MADE. THINKS! GOD BLESS YOU !!
I’m pretty sure you have a 1956 6131 Jet Firebird; according to the serial number. did you buy this guitar and amp set ORIGINAL? or used? how did you come upon this. and what’s the condition of the guitar? i’d be, and am, interested in the guitar and amp, just need a little more info.
does this have a "G" (G cutout) tailpiece? take a look at this picture,
it’s a 1958 Jet Firebird 6131 so it does not have that "G" tail piece.
i’d like to see the guitar and amp if you have any pics
hope this helps

did you ever find the elusive 6119?
If you did tell me piease, what it is like to play – acoustically. I am very inerested in the acoustic qualities of this instrument.
Best Regards …Nick M
