Electra X635 w/plate "60th anniversary of SLM"

My son just bought from a friend an Electra X635 Bass guitar.
I noticed a plate enscribed with:
"commemorating the 60th anniversary of SLM 1922-1982"
I'd like to know more about why it's there and the approx value of the instrument.

Hey there , I bought a Exectra X135 w/plate "60th ann. of slm , I am also trying to find more about it, nothing as yet, I got my x135 at a garage sale, ready for the price?
$1.00 yep, it had no strings.
