EMG active Pickups
I have a new guitar (Ibanez Sca220) and I bought it with the intention of swapping out the nut, tuner and finally pick-ups. I want to put in EMG's because of all the advances in technology theve have made (no noise, high output, ceramic bar instaed of posts, etc.) but are they gonna push the amp to a point where the cleans are gonna break up? I also listen to metallica and I like their sounds and thought that was another reason to get them. By the way, I'm getting humbucker style pickups with coil taps, regardless of the brand.(I need single and dual coil sounds) What's your opinion? Thanx

Head for the www.emginc.com website. I believe the pickup you're after is the 89. You will still be able to get a clean sound with your amp. Distortion will be cake.

strat tremelo conversion (4 questions)
1. I just recieved a fender strat with the stock fender locking tremelo (floyd rose style). I want to put a standard fender tremelo and lose the locking nut stuff. How difficult is this to modify?
2. Will I have to drill or have unsightly holes in the body of the guitar?
3. I also wish to replace the pick-ups. What kind of current single coil pickups have a rich full tone. I want to avoid humbuckers with this guitar.
4. I would like to purchase them as a whole pick-guard assembly with an emerald green tortious shell pickguard, all the electronics and black plastic cosmetics so I can just drop it in. Is it possible to purchase the complete assembly like this or will I have to build it?
Open to all suggestions, thanks for your time.

Gibson 120-t circa 1961-1963
Hi Could you give me an estimated price for a gibson
semi-acoustic 120-T from around 1961-1963.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
yours Ken McCluskey
Re: Gibson 120-t circa 1961-1963
: Try Ebay - it varies alot (and prices jump towards the end of auctions) but at least the prices are real - and you do see Gibsons!
(and yes my name really is Ken McCluskey!)
Gibson sg standard headstock
I recently purchased a new sg and got it at a much discounted price for the fact of a cosmetic flaw so to speak. I examined it under the light and saw two thin cracks about a inch long that looked repainted on the headstock. Is there any concern of tone being affected. I mean I have time to send it back but it was sold at quite a discount. I can live with cosmetic flaws as long as they pose no danger to the sound. Thanks for any reply.
Re: Gibson sg standard headstock
Hi,
it all depends where the cracks are, cause some cracks can lead to a snapped off head stock (broken guitar) exactly where are the cracks???
May Jesus bless you
Sincerely,
Bill

Re: Gibson sg standard headstock
Bill,
The cracks are like at the top of the head on the back one on the left, running top to bottom, and one on the right and only visible from the back. They extend to just right about the two tuners on top on the left and right. I really love this guitar and hope that they are just wood slits, and nothing more to worry about. Thanks for your input.

Re: Gibson sg standard headstock
It sounds like what you're seeing is along the seams of the peghead. Gibson pegheads usually have extra wood glued to either side of them to increase the width.
The way to tell if it's a real concern is to see if you flex the headstock the crack grows or not... if it seems to get bigger, then it's a crack in the wood, if it stays the same, it's a crack in the finish. If it's just in the finish it's only cosmetic, but if the peghead itself is cracked it can have consequences.

Re: Gibson sg standard headstock
I personally don't see anything wrong with it, you could get a little bit of chatter from the tuners, but if you got it for a good price i'd keep it.: I recently purchased a new sg and got it at a much discounted price for the fact of a cosmetic flaw so to speak. tuning
Most guitars I have owned, and I have had a lot over the years, cheap and expensive, seemed to need constant tuning of, mainly the 1st&3rd strings, I've put some down to cheap machine heads and not so good whammy unit's but obviously this doesn't apply to good guitars
any explanation's or theorie's?

Putting on a clear pickguard---advice?
I'm installing a clear pickguard on my Rainsong all Graphite acoustic guitar, not supposed to use a heat gun, anyone have advice on applying these so you don't get any bubbles staying underneath. No instructions came with the sheet of Mylar.
Thanks Brad
Re: Putting on a clear pickguard---advice?
Does the pickguard have stickum on it already? If it's pre-gummed, just make sure you put it on where you want it, 'cause once it's on, it's pretty much on. It's just like putting on a bumper sticker, start at one side and go to the other.
If you have to use your own glue, then I don't know...

: Hi Brad,
I make acoustic guitars and have fitted several clear Milar pick guards.Put some warm water in a shallow dish with just one drop of washup liquid.
place the milar in the fluid for a few minutes. Then sponge water on the guitar front, also containing washup liquid.Take care not to splosh water in sound hole etc.
Remove backing from one end of milar and plce on guitar body in correct place.Proceed to pullaway backing and laying down milar.Smooth out from centre
with cork block or similar until all air is expelled.Leave for ten mins then work over again with cork.Dry all residue. That's it done.Any small air pockets seem to dry out
by next day.It pays to lay your pickgaurd in place before all this procedure and put small tabs of masking tape at straegic points just to aid in positioning correctly
when putting on for real.
Cheers Rog.

Re: Putting on a clear pickguard---advice?
Brad
You've gotten enough advice already, but I actually have a question for Rog. Why the wash fluid in the water ? I applied a clear mylar guard on an older acoustic and just took care by starting at one end, making sure the guard went on flat - peeling the backing off as I proceeded. Any small bubbles were pinched out by rubbing with a soft cloth. The starting position is the key !! Wrong spot or angle and...well...a funky pickguard.

Try using an alternative pickguard from DS Custom Shop. Just lay it on and remove it when you are not playing. No goof ups because there is no adhesive and they can be removed and replaced hundreds of times. Only $10.00 for a pair in teardrop or Taylor style contour. Web site is www.dscustom.com - Shipping is free and lightning FAST.

Re: Putting on a clear pickguard---advice?
Go on ebay to > Musical Instruments > Parts and accessories > and type in a search for "clear pickguard". Or try item number 3701184370. I saw these just the other day and was 'watching the item'. They are recommended by RainSong.

looking for blues and jazz full score w/guitar tab
I'm looking for sites where I can buy or publishers who offer sheet music scores of more recent and pop song full scores of blues/jazz/pop/rock/swing, anything. I have a young (youth) ensemble that wants to play more popular music, especially swing (like brian setzer, cherry poppin' daddies, etc.). Any help?

It's missing from every site!
I ask, why tab? it's absolutely unable to transfer the music between the guitarists. If i want to get notes/scores from the net, i don't find it. why don't we scan in some notes/scores, and then upload them to the server as an image file? I HATE TABs!
Crate125D
Just bought this amp and like a lot so far. Iwas just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get the best sound out of it. I play a Simon and Patrick with a Dean Markley Pro-Mag pick-up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Fender American Series - colour question
I was wondering if someone could please tell me, hopefully by email, if the aqua marine metallic colour of the Fender American Series is a deep blue colour or a sort of nasty light turquoise (pale green)? I'm buying my guitar mail order to save some cash and I want to make sure it'll look ok. I've seen pictures of the same guitar ranging from light green to royal blue. Any advice would be much appreciated.

what pickups should i buy?
i bought a new guitar and i don't know what pickups to put in the guitar. i play rock and metal so a dirty sound is important, but i still want the cleanest possible sound. i thought of emg's because all the metalheads use them, but are they going to overdrive the clean channel of my amp (marshall valvestate 100watt head & 4x12). I also want coil taps, because they are my main clean sound (with a little chorus & reverb). what do you think?
Re: what pickups should i buy?
EMG Humbuckers are o.k. But they have their own sound, cause of the built in preamp.Check out some passive pickups;PAF pro,Seymore Duncan,Carvin.
Good Luck
Re: what pickups should i buy?
i think u should go with seymour duncan pickups.. ipersonaly think htey are superiour pickups and their single coiuld pickups are teh best around
