NEED HELP

I was searching through my closet when I came across this old dusty guitar case, when I opened it, it looked like one of the Gibson humminbirds, but the wild thing is it wasn't writtem on the neck, Gibson wasn't, but it was written on the inside. Could somebody give me a little info on this guitar? This is why I am a piano player. But please somebody help me!!!

Re: NEED HELP

I don't think it's a Gibson. To be sure just go to gibson.com and look for the specifications.

Okay,
Bring this thing into a worthwhile music store and have them look at it. If the head doesn't say gibson it probably isn't one. But to be sure (some gibson had painted on logos) go to a place with intelligent, i.e. not sam ash, and ask their "best guitar guy".

Falling Away Due to Lack of Knowledge.

hello Peeps,

I have a Washburn WR150 ( mettalic purple) guitar that is collecting dust. I would love to play the guitar and have worked on Ironman by Black Sabbath and Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett and have got quite good too. But, I have a small problem. I havent been Playing long, maybe a total time of about 9 weeks. Now I understand your not going to be jimmi hendrix in this amount of time, but I look at tabs and chords and stuff and cannot piece it all together.
Do People actually know ALL of these chords?
Crimson and clover ---- first 3 chords are C G and F
Ok heres my frustration. Bar chords? Open chords? I have acutally seen it played another way that I do not understand. I'm totally confused. I play it bar chords, but it just doesnt sound right.
My last thoughts are. I would love to be able to play really good. Not for anyone , just for myself..for the sake of saying I can play an instrument.
Does anyone have any information that could help me get back into playing again. As far as going to see an Instructor, my comment is this....10 or 12 bucks for 30 minutes is a total rip off. I have enough questions to fill up about 15 lessons. Is 150.00-180.00 bucks worth giving up to have somone answer just questions?
where are the 2 hour lessons at?

Re: Falling Away Due to Lack of Knowledge.

Yes people do know 'all those chords', along with scales and much more... you should at least learn all the open and 'bar' chords, and pentonic scale, you can find alot of teaching aids online. Also lessons ARE worth the money (from a good teacher), take a few to learn the basics correctly and you won't regret it down the road... well good luck.

Re: Falling Away Due to Lack of Knowledge.

Don't sell your axe yet! Try to find a teacher.1 hour lessons generally range from $30-$40.Practice,practice,
practice.Live guitar,eat guitar,breath guitar,shit guitar!Especially in the early stages.I remember practicing and jamming til 3 a.m.!Then waking up at 7a.m.(for school)with a guitar in my bed.

electar amps

are electar amps any good? I found a place where I can get a 65 w tube for likea $150. Do tubes go out often on tube amps. thanks

Re: electar amps

They are well worth the cash. They are built ok and sound good. A speaker replacement will make it sound even better. They could easily go for twice as much.

Doyle Bramhall II & Smokestack have just released the CD "Welcome" on RCA records. I had been anticipating the release. The CD SMOKES, pun intended!! Get this CD. You won't regret it. Recommendations on a Acoustic/Amp

I'm looking at a midrange acoustic amp. So far I've seen the peavey ecoustic 100watt amp. Any suggestions? THx

Re: Recommendations on a Acoustic/Amp

I plug my electric classical into a small Fender Yale Reverb and it works great. These aren't designed as "acoustic" amps but I find with any amp that if you back off the treble and bass you get good natural sound. I also have a 200 watt bass amp that I use for bigger venues that works the same way.

mini humbuckers

I want to get a strat, and I can get a great price on a strat with single coil pick ups. I like to play clean, but i also like the distortion sound. Should I buy the strat with single coils and buy a mini humbucker? If so, which one. if not, why?

Re: mini humbuckers

Seymore Duncan makes the Screamin' Demon,JB jr.Bill Lawrence makes good pickups too. These will fit right into your Srat. without additional routing.

Wanted: !970s pooflinger deluxe Squier Strat

My friend Tim used to have a electric 1970 Pooflinger deluxe model Fender Squier Stratocaster and he sold it not knowing its value. after we sold it, turns out that only about 150 of these were made, and since it was shipped everywhere (not just in the US) they are incredibly rare. They are like a regular Strat except they have 4 double coil pickups, and 40 frets. they come with a stock whammy which can also be bent to the side, providing the user with a unique screeching sound. another unique thing about the 70's model Pooflinger strat is that given the four double coil pickups, they are EXTREMLY sensitive. a good way to tell if u have a 70's Pooflinger is to rest it on a table and turn the amp up around half-way. you will start to hear a low kinda humming whirring sound if u leave it alone for like 5 minutes. this is the air moving across the strings. there are other Pooflinger models, but none were like the one made in the 70's. if u have one or know where i can get one lemme know. if you live in or near new england chances are you have mine. if you look on the bridge, the words "i just pulled your leg sucker" are scratched on. lemme know if u have mine or have any model.

ESP guitars questions

Hello all, I'd like to know what is the difference between a licensed floyd rose and an original floyd rose :)....please help me
thanks in advance

Re: ESP guitars questions

Hi,

An original Floyd is actually produced by Floyd Rose. They are more sought after and built nicer.
A licenced Floyd is produced by someone else(like ESP)with the permission from Floyd Rose. They pay for this right.
These are generally made in Asia and are not as desierable as the originals. They are pretty good, just not as good.

Hope this helps.

Ovation Custom Elite

2 questions:
1. This guitar has "ELITE CUSTOM" inlayed at the 12th fret. On the label inside the body it says "Custom Built for Sam Ash". Does anyone know the value of this guitar? Or history or retail price. I have a chance to buy it.

2. The electronics have been bypassed, ie. if you look inside the back cover hole, you see another wire with a jack for a 1/4" plug not being used and the pre-amp doesn't work. Anyone know how to hook it up again. Thanks.

Basic question

I'm working on changing the strings on my acoustic guitar for the first time, and I've been successful with all of them except the thicker A and E strings. I can't get the pegs to stay back in the holes after I push them back in. Does anybody have any suggestions?

which reverb????

which reverb is the best for solo, plate, spirng, or hall?

Re: which reverb????

I generally prefer spring reverb for solos.Plate has a little too much ambiance and tends to "bleed" over. Hall reverb is cool, but it's not "spacey" enough. It really depends on the feel of the tune.

Press Release:
RARE HENDRIX MASTER RECORDING FOR SALE ON EBAY beginning June 11,2001

The GhettoFighters didn’t start riots they made music but if they had ever gotten to tour, they probably would have caused riots. In 1970 the electric guitar, R&B, and the Blues were all the thing and this music group was right there.

Conceived the year before by twin brothers, Tunde-Ra and Taharqa Aleem, this group counted Jimi Hendrix as its lead guitarist and their song "MojoMan" is the GhettoFighter eBAY is auctioning. The master recording tapes and worldwide rights to this song, with tracks recorded in 1969 both in Muscle Shoals and Electric Lady Studios in New York, are up for sale.

The Aleems were Hendrix’s backup singers on the last three albums "Cry of Love", "Rainbow Bridge" and "War Heroes" and they can be heard on songs such as classic songs as "Dolly Dagger", “Isabella” and "Freedom". The Aleems, formerly known as Arthur and Albert Allen and to millions of
Hendrix fans as ‘The Twins ’, were also his old friends from the days long before Jimi was famous and The GhettoFighter Group grew out of this combination.

But Hendrix’s untimely passing some months later dealt a serious blow to The GhettoFighter project and the Aleems knew they had to rethink the possibilities. After considering all the options they decided to place the tape in their vault and it has remained there undisturbed until recently. Over the ensuing 30 years the brothers have been frequently interviewed about their relationship with Jimi and many aspects, both professional and personal, are well documented. However, the GhettoFighter Group and the existence of the "Mojo Man" tape were only known to a few music business insiders and Hendrix fans.

But now the Aleems have finally decided to make it public and their choice of using a one-minute sample on the internet to sell such an important and historic master recording is revolutionary. But hey, that’s what it used to be all about: Revolution.

For further information and the download sample of MojoMan visit the GhettoFighter website at: http://www.ghettofighter.com

Too Expensive

I have been looking all over the internet for a cheap guitar. I was looking for a cheap acoustic to learn on, then I figured whats the point, I'll just have to buy an electric after I learn on that one, so I went to find a cheap electric guitar. The cheapest electric I have found is at MusicYo, 69.99, then I remembered I have to get an amp, most of them cost more then the guitar, I know I can find a cheap one for around 30 bucks if I looked hard. So i thought I would buy the 69 dollar one and find an amp. Then it said I needed a strap, I thought that would only be about 2 bucks, it ended up to be 12, whats the point, I can just buy a gig bag for 10 bucks and tear the strap off that. Then, adding to the price, I have to get a gig bag. All in all it would cost me, 69 for the guitar, 30 for an amp, 12 for a strap, 10 for the gig bag, adds up to around 122 dollars. Then their is shipping charges, around 150 in the end for a simple "inexpensive" guitar, yeah right, there is no way Im going to pay 150 dollars on a guitar thats not even that great. So I thought I'll just have to settle with acoustic, and I found a nice and cheap one at musicians friend for 29.99, I thought that was good, and since I didnt have to buy an amp I could afford it. Then, again, it said I needed a strap, another 12 bucks, then a bag thing, only this time I needed a hard one because acoustics are more fragile, 70 dollars, then picks, 10 bucks for 8, can't I just buy one for a buck, nope, you have to buy all of them. I know these are good prices when put with the other ones, but whether they are good prices or not, they are still TOO EXPENSIVE. Most guitars are in the thousands, because they are a certain brand, or once played by a famous person, or they are rare. I dont care who played it, or how many they made. If somebody famous played it, does that make my guitar sound any better, or me sound any better. I dont care how the guitar looks or if they are "collectors items" I just want a guitar, it doesnt even have to sound too great, I just want it to sound like a guitar. Everywhere I look it says I need all these accessories, tuners, etc. I know I dont need a tuner, I dont even know what they do. Most of these accessories I've never heard of, but I "have to have it" to play a guitar. Are these accessories really neccasary, and can find the neccasary accessories cheaper from some other site? Please respond.

Re: Too Expensive

Dude, settle down a bit! If you were considering even looking at a $69 electric, forget about it. A $29 acoustic, forget about it. All you will get with those is a headache. They will never stay tuned, they will play terrible and you will grow to hate the guitar in general. Those are so cheaply made, they are nothing but crap! If you want to play the guitar, there are some expenses involved, no two ways about it. If you simply can't afford to buy an electric guitar package or even a decent acoustic, try renting an acoustic from your local shop. They should be able to hook you up. As for all of the accessories, some kind of case is needed, if you rent it will come with a case. You need a pick if you are not learning fingerstyle, and as a beginner you won't be. Those are like, a quarter or maybe a few cents more (certain kinds anyway. You really don't need a strap unless you want to stand up and play. You can get a cheap strap for around 6 bucks. You will need a tuner at first until you can learn what each strings tuned pitch is. Those aren't that expensive. But like I said earlier, there are some expenses involved at first. The question is, just how badly do you want to play the guitar? If you have to save for a few more months then that is what you have to do. I don't mean to sound rude or too straightforward but, it's the truth. I hope this helps a little in your decision. Good Luck!!

Re: Too Expensive

First of all, the $69 guitar everyone is automatically calling junk is, as you said, being sold by Music-Yo, which is related to Gibson. These guitars are now selling for a low of $74.95 plus S & H (cost me about $16 more). I bought one for my son to learn on. If you look around the internet, you will find reviews by owners (see www.harmonycentral.com reviews). The Musicyo site itself provides reviews. The guitar seems just fine. I read about guitar set-up and checked it out after it arrived and it was already set up pretty nicely. You can also purchase a decent practice amp from them for about $65. Both guitar and amp have the Kramer name. Personally, I looked around and picked up a Vox Pathfinder 15 watt practice amp after reading reviews. It cost $95 plus tax from Sam Ash Music store. The Kramer guitar by the way came with a free (otherwise only $2 strap). You can get a $20 gig bag there also. I do recommend an electronic guitar tuner but these can be had pretty cheap ($10-15 or so). I had bought one awhile ago to help tune a cheap acoustic I bought for around $75 from QVC. Picks I got for free at the Philly X-games and they are Fenders (nice collectibles with EXPN on them as well). The tuner allows you to plug in the guitar and automatically tells you which string you are playing and whether it is in tune or not (simply have to turn the tuning knob Clockwise or counterclockwise if the tuner lights light up as "Flat" or "Sharp" untilt the center "in tune" LED lights up. Very simple. Once you get it down, it takes about five minutes to get it in perfect tune. You can take any mail order guitar to a guitar store for a set-up (shouldn't cost too much) and there are poor guitarists everywhere who may set it up for you dirt cheap or, at the least, tell you if you got a lemon. If you get a lemon, Music-Yo, I believe, will treat you fairly and you can get your money back within a certain period of time (I think it's thirty days, but check with them to be sure). So your only risk is the S&H (which they will probably not charge you if you can convince them you got a lemon). I've had pretty good response from them eventhough it's only through e-mail. They forgot to add the guitar strap to the guitar when I got it but sent it right away under separate cover when I e-mailed them (the S&H on that package probably cost them a few times more than the value of the strap). If you really can't afford an amp right away, you can start with a headphone or mini-amp (again see Music-Yo for cheap $ ones - I think under $20). By the way, I looked at guitars at local music shops and compared to the Kramer $69 (now $74.95) guitar. Up to $150 or so, I could not see any visible differences favoring the retail store guitars! I believe these guitars are also made by Samick. Guitar has label saying made in Indonesia. A little internet research showed Samick has a HUGE Indonesian guitar manufacturing operation there and put out thousands of guitars a day. I wouldn't be surprised if may guitars selling up to $199 or more under many different labels come out of essentially the same assembly line/same materials. Soooo - good luck if your still trying to solve your "too expensive" quandary. I'm afraid this is the cheapest route to a "not too bad" start for a beginning electric guitarist. Only other routes are used, e-bay, pawnbrokers, or something to that effect - and, at least, for me, this is much riskier (I once bought a used "repaired" acoustic for one of my kids at a "guitar flea market". I was trying to "finger pick" the thing and it fell apart in my hand". The glue holding it together gave out. $25 for nothing IS worse than $69 for something that in fact will probably do the trick.
