I have an Acoustic, FG-260 series, 12 string guitar.
I have been searching the serial numbers to see when it was built and what is worth.
The serial numbers are only 5 digits, 30907. There is a “K” in the inside, on bottom by itself. It was made in Nippon Gakki Co., LTD. Could somebody please email me any information you can find, or know about this guitar.

I have a Yamaha LL 15 Acoustic Guitar that I bought new in 1989. It has a brand new black hard shell case. I am considering selling or trading it. Anyone interested can call, text, or email me. Email is [email protected], & cell # is 770-324-0142. It’s the rosewood model, not the mahogany. It sounds great. I have two other acoustic guitars, & I am interested in an electric guitar. That’s the only reason I’m even thinking about letting it go. It’s one of the good ones made in Japan, not China or Taiwan. I am asking $1,500.00. It does have a few minor surfaces dings & tiny scratches. It also has some fret wear, & some wear on the fret board. It has been played some, not kept in the case in a closet, or under a bed.

The Red Label Nippon Gaki produced Yamaha guitars from the early ’70s are recognized for their projection, articulation and tone. They were fashioned after the Gibson Hummingbird model. This particular one is in excellent shape including the original hard shell case. Rare that you find the yellow case strap and yellow taped tabs intact, but they’re all there. Even includes the key to the case. Neck is straight with the slightest bit of relief. Neck joint at the heel is tight and the original frets are still in good shape. Original ornate pickguard has no cracks or missing tips and is secure. Many of these need neck resets. Not this one. Nice low action for easy playing with the original bridge and adjustable saddles.

I have two vintage Yamaha classical guitars for sale, both high quality, straight necks, OHSC, etc.
The GC-6D was I believe a concert grade (the “GC” designation), hand-made. The G255S was I believe the top grade for its class of guitar, above the 240, 245, etc., and the “S” denotes that it had a solid rather than laminated top.
I don’t need two guitars since I’m just a hobbyist, and so I’m looking to sell one, don’t really have a preference. So if you want either, make me an offer. As soon as I sell one, the other will no longer be for sale.
Oh, I’m not in a rush to sell, not going to let them go for cheap, but for reasonable value to one who appreciates vintage Yamaha quality.
Ken

Looking to sell my Yahama Nippon Gakki G 85 D Classical Guitar. In excellent condition with a few minor surface scratches. What should I sell this for? A ballpark figure is fine. Thanks
Can anyone tell me what classical guitar model is this serial number 1011856?
I was wondering what a good used condition of the G230A is worth, and what does the “A” stand for?
According to the label it was made in Taiwan, thinking about selling it so am open to offers.
Thanks
Hi there,
I recently purchased a Yamah G230A classical guitar on eBay for $89 plus $20 shipping as it had to come from Queensland (about 2,000km from me), so if that give you an idea? I have seen them on the net for as much as $399 but then again that is just an inflated price I think. It also depends on what condition it is in and how it plays and sounds.
I mean I wouldn’t pay squat for one that had high action, scratches and dings all over, and sounded like a wooden box with fishing line wrapped around it!
So in all mine cost me $109 plus $10 for a new set of strings. The tuning pegs were a bit tight but I had a spare set lying around and they do just fine now.
Hope this helps?
Dimitri
Would anyone know where I could find out the value and history for a Yamaha G 100D, NIPPON GAKKI LTD? I bought this at a yard sale back in 1995 when we lived in Japan. I don’t see any other markings such as seriel number etc. A family member who plays in a band said he was sure this was a classic. Would appreciate any help or information. Thank you.
Debra
I have this guitar – bought it used in 1986. I have checked the serial number and I know it was manufactured in Japan in 1971. I lost the toggle switch (plastic end part) and the coin-like Yamaha logo (3 tuning forks). Also, I’m not sure if the two single coil (humbucker) pickup is working, but I like the base-y sound. It is in working condition. I am looking for these parts to bring it back to it’s glory. any help?
HOW MUCH IS A YAMAHA FG350W WORTH?
I have a Yamaha LL – 15 acoustic guitar that I bought new on June 16, 1989. I still have the original receipt from the day I bought it. I was wondering what the value might be for this guitar. The serial # is 306439. It does have a few minor dings visible if you look at if with a flashlight. I would say the condition would be 85 to 90 percent or better. I have the original case but it’s worn out.
do you still have the LL15?
Yes sir I still have it Willy. If you are still interested you can send me an email or feel free to call or text 770-324-0142.
I have an original LL-15 that I purchased new in 1987. I love it, and it was one of the few things I brought with me when I moved from the US to Australia. I had to order it (unseen except for in the brochure) from Keller Music in Cincinnati. The guitar has a sound that is deep and beautiful, and it has the Indian Rosewood back and sides. A lovely instrument.
Do you want to sell it? How much?
I know this post is a few years old but if you’re still looking for a LL15 I have one for sale. Contact me at [email protected] if interested.
Thanks Willy, but I plan to keep her. Best of luck with your search! Please post here if you find one. Cheers!

These Basses are made buy Yamaha Nippon Gakki and is an SA 70 yamaha semi-acoustic bass with F holes I’m guessing with out seeing any pictures.
I have two. A red and a Sunburst one 26000 and 22000 serial number range. The info I’ve managed to find is that they were made from 1967-8 through to 1974. The Company name is on the metal plate around the Jack plug. It is My understanding that the Yamaha Nippon Gakki Factory had a Fire after the production of some of these models loosing records and this why info is hard to come by. You could try this link http://www.preservationsound.com/?p=1495

Old FG 450 SE for sale, beautiful if slightly beaten spruce top, small crack near the edge, missing pickup hence 300 euros. The controls are all present. The label is that dirty green color if that tells you anything, and says made in Taiwan republic of China. This instrument is in France, so shipping Stateside might prove prohibitive.

please dont get confused with the sa2000s which were on general sale from 1979 to arround 1983….the 26 were a special order placed via jack woodroffs (a music store in birrmingham u.k. ) in the late 70’s. This was when yamaha were about to establish themselves as a very serious manufacturer of fine guitars. Apparently they had enough of this wood to make arround 20 of these beautiful set pieces. All that is on the back of the headstock is the number,,,,015922 and directly under this are the words made in japan. It is natural blond and has a wonderful one piece back….a true crafted guitar…its great
I have one of these bought from woodroffes along time ago my serial no. 015919
I was told this was number 19 of 21 one made Is this true & how

Compliments of the day to you!
By this e-mail, I do sincerely apologize for my intrusion of your privacy. However, I have something serious with great concern to share with you. I believe you can be of help to advise and handle this issue, in this reason I decided to contact you with good faith that you will handle this issue sincerely.
I am Mrs. Alice Idris Morgan, I’m married to Mr.Kevin Idris Morgan. who worked with Philippines embassy in ABIDJAN for nine years, before he died in the year 2008. We were both married for eleven years without children. I decided to contact you to let you know my desire to establish a charity foundation with some valuable amount of fund that will be sufficient to build a charity foundation and distribute welfare items to less privilege people within your community.
I inherited the funds from my late husband (Mr.Kevin Idris Morgan) and I want to will the fund to charity because of our affection for charity welfare. The Financial Institution responsible for the deposited fund will load the money into an Atm/Visa card under a confidential arrangement for success delivery of the ATM/Visa card to your residential address, office or Organization.
It is my desire to see that this money is invested to any charity organization of your choice within your community to help distribute welfare items to charity Organizations, motherless baby’s home, mosques, churches, Schools and also support destitute aged men and women. You can invest part of the charity funds into a reliable venture or whatever you may have in mind that will be to the benefit of the less people
I took this decision because I was raised from a motherless baby home and presently, I’m hospitalized here in Nice, here London where I am undergoing treatment for my upcoming throat cancer surgery operation. I will be waiting for your reply to confirm your acceptance to this proposition so that I will give you all the relevant information for the bank to authorize for the release and transfer the fund to you as my assigned representative for the charity project.
Please help to pray for my health and quick recovery always! I look forward hearing from you urgently Warm regards,
Mrs. Alice Idris Mordan.

These are awesome guitars. Solid spruce tops that have aged 20+ years to a beautiful mellow tone. Nice treble sparkle. I’ve seen Mike Scott of the Waterboys play this model. I will soon have pics. I own three of these from the early 80s (I believe). I will sell two. They are in great shape. Email me for more info. $350 plus shipping. These sound better than new guitars that cost 2-3x as much.

I’m looking for some pictures, price and further informations on this guitar, because I want to start playing and it will be with an FG 350, middle of 70’s, maybe start of 80’s, I don’t really know.
When I say FG 350, it can be FG 350w because I havn’t seen any FG 350, just FG 350w.
Thanks a lot.
I have a Yamaha FG 350 W… I bought it around 1975-76…
What would you like to know about this guitar ?

How much would a Yamaha FG350 1970 MODEL in good condition be worth ?
In fact I’m quiet sure, it is a FG 350 not FG 350w 🙂 But I still know anything about it 🙂

Hi,
I have 5 of these. They were made 1972-1973 and were the highest end acoustic Yamaha made. The quality is up there with Gibson and Martin models. Sold in the USA for 379.00 in 1972 and mine are insured with a replacement value of $3000.00 each , as I feel thats what I would have to spend in order to replace them with a like Guitar.

I got mine in Japan for about $300.
You can see the original catalog, even though it is written in Japanese.

John, I’ve been trying to research these early, higher-end Yamahas for some time now. The FG-360 seems to be on the bottom end of Yamahas first group of hand-built and semi hand-built instruments of the early seventies (72-75 mostly). The four lower numbered models, FG’s 360, 580, 630(12 string), and 700s appear to have solid tops but laminate sides and backs. These four seem to be semi hand-built. When I asked a Yamaha tech just what semi hand-built meant, he said there is some record that these may have been put together by a group of luthiers instead of just one. He offered that the stamped letter or letters on the back brace, just below the paper label, could be a signature of sorts for one of these groups. On my FG-630 the same letter (K) is stamped both on the back brace and on the top under the bridge. Some have suggested that these letters are the initials of a single luthier but I haven’t found any definitive information one way or another. The higher five, FG’s 1000J, 1200J, 1500, 2000, and 2500(12 string) have all solid tops, backs and sides and are hand-built. Of all of the models, I’ve found less information about the 360 than any other. There is some question as to whether it should be included in this special group at all, but my research tells me that it’s jacaranda back and sides and ebony fingerboard say it should. These woods seem to exist on the Japanese built models (72? & 73?) but the taiwanese built 360’s (74? & 75?) seem to have rosewood fingerboards. Though Yamaha moved it’s factory to Taiwan in 1971 it continued to produce hand-builts in Japan after this date. This might suggest that the Japanese 360’s are semi hand-built while the Taiwanese ones aren’t. There may be no way to really know because Yamaha didn’t seem to have kept many records back then. There should be a serial number stamped on the top brace just above the sound hole. The first number will be the year your guitar was made, a "3" means 1973, a "4" is 1974 etc. The next two numbers are the month it was made, "03" is march and 11 is november etc. The next two numbers are the day of the month and the last three are the specific number your instrument was, in the series of guitars made. I’m not sure what this series was…day, special run, week, or what. So check your paper label to see where it was made and the serial number to find out when. The price these days seems to be $300-$500 depending on condition and beauty of wood etc. Hope some of this helps.

Who would know the age of my guitar #41005739 on brace under sound hole, while the #0589413 on bottom brace. Guitar is in really good condition with original case in excellent condition.

Hello ….. how much it cost? Thank you
Hi, i bought myself an acoustic over the summer 2nd hand, which had just been in a loft for years, and i was about to put it on sale today but looking for some info on it…
It is a Yamaha FG-160, near perfect condition and great sound, serial 20731422 (not on the label but on the wooden bar under the fret board) and has what i would say is a Green Nippon Gakki label in it.
Anyone who can help me please e-mail [email protected]
Many thanks, Alex

Barbara, I found your post looking for info on my brothers FG 160. I know "Today" there is one on ebay with 1 bid for $199. So I suppose if its under that price your getting a deal.
This guitar is Wholesome and unmatchable in sound quality unless you pay big $$$ for a martin or Taylor.
Get the serial number off of the stock just in side the hole and either go to http://www.yamaha.com/apps/guitararchives/guitarserial.htm to look it up or follow this example..
50314395 is the serial number of my brothers, here is how it breaks down.
50314 is the MFG date,
5 = 65, 75, 85, 95, 05
This guitar is dated in the early 70s so the year this one is made is 1975
0314 is just that, March 14… so it was made March 14 1975.
395 is the Unit number.
I hope this helps,

I have just bought this old Yamaha FG 160 with a serial number 0756373 but can’t work out the year it was made according to your formular. If anyone could work out when this was made I would be interested. It has a great tone but will take a lot of work to make it playable. All these guitars cave in at the body-join due to string pull so the bridge needs planing down to half thickness and reslotting for the saddle to be low enough for comfortable playing after the frets have been levelled and crowned. Hey ho, here we go again…….

I recently bought a 2002 Yamaha sg2000 in vintage white. It’s a super guitar (looking and in playing and performance) it’s got a real nice Nippon Gakki hard case, made in Japan tuners etc and all the jap hardware (to my eyes) now imagine my surprise when after close examination I saw lightly stamped (nearly not noticeable at all) ‘Made in Taiwan’ as far as I knew all Sg2000’s etc were Mij? Apparently not. I am finding it difficult to get info on this so any help you be appreciated. The guitar is quality and I wouldn’t sell it- just wondering. Many thanks.
This site has helped me identify further with my FG-160. My brother Mike gave it to me in 1975 circa. He bought it brand new in 1972/3
in Melbourne, Australia.
Since then it’s traveled to Perth, WA. Darwin, NT, Townsville, QLD, Sydney, NSW, 1987-8 New York played at the Stanley Warner Theater in New Jersey City, NJ to an audience of 5000 plus., from 1988 until 2012 it has resided with me in Taiwan where it was originally manufactured. I understand the workshop was in Kaohsiung, Taiwan where I now live.
Over the years this treasure has had some mishaps, broken neck, aggression from my siblings. Action has been worked on by Cargill the master in Melbourne and more recently 2002 in NSW.
I can vouch for this instrument – it improves with age.
According to the yamaha archives it was manufactured October 23, 1971 – 11 days before my wife was born.
I think my Sg2000 was made in that factory also. 2002 I believe. When did Yamaha start building their Sg’s there as I always thought they were Mij? Thank you
How do I find out which decade it is from? I have no history of this guitar I picked up. I know what year but have over 4 decades to chose from.
I also have a FG-160 my friend gave to me back in 2005. It has 2 serial numbers on it. One is right under the sound hole and its A0610640 and the one inside the body is 0534102. I can’t find either of which anywhere. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I sort of have the same problem as Alex and I wonder if someone could help identify the year and probable value of a Yamaha FG-150 in mint conditon. I bought it in 1971 and has a Red Nippon Ghaki Label. It came with an extra set of strings. It has been in storage in its own case all these years. Thanks, Clem

: Is it for sale?
Hi, About 1800-2200us$ in good condition. FG2000 are all solid, back is brazilian rosewood
I have a 1969 Yamaha FG-140 that is in museum quality condition. All original with killer low action, no fret buzzing, no splits, no cracks, no repairs, nada. The only thing you can see if you postion the guitar a certain way into the light, are a couple small pick scrapes not into the poly coating surface around the top of the sound hole. The frets were cleaned at some point before I bought the guitar, but other than that this guitar looks as if someone has just picked it off the wall at your local guitar store, circa 1969. I can provide all the pictures you want if anyone wants to see it. The amazing thing when I got the guitar was that it came with no case. All these years and no case. Go figure. The serial number inside the soundhole has three markings at the beginning that look like question marks (???) and then 054 and then what looks like 69 in smaller print. May be 68. Hard to tell, but from the research I’ve done all other FG-140’s I’ve seen with similiar headstock and RED soundhole label are 69’s. Must have been a very early one I assume. I have never seen serial number markings like it before. Unless someone has one under a bed somewhere I doubt very seriously that there is another one any available anywhere near this good a condition. This is no doubt one for a collector. I’m almost afraid to play it, and it doesn’t get played much at all. Plays and sounds awesome though. Anyone got an idea of what it would be worth? I don’t get to this board much because I forget to come here, so you might want to email me instead of posting. Thanks…..
I, too, have the same guitar (FG-140)in similar condition and am the original owner. This weekend (Sept 12 & 13) is the Great American Guitar Show in Philly and am taking the Yami to be fitted to a nice hard case and to try to get an idea on its value. Don’t think I’ll part with it, tho, since I recently compared it to a friends Martin D-28 and it sounds and plays nearly as good. I’ve been watching ebay on this guitar and similar ones of the FG series and they sell for as much as $400 recently. One seller of instruments claims that collector/price-wise the early FG’s are peaking right now.
Here’s something interesting… as said earlier, I have the same red label FG-140 except there is no serial number on the first brace. At the neck block the number is T0037964. The red label, most interestingly, is typical; but the Nippon is not printed on it. What does anybody make of dem apples? I’ve had this guitar at least 35 years and know for a fact it’s a Yami. Headstock logo and truss plate are all typical.
:Hi, I also have an FG-140 red label with only Nippon Gakki on the label and a number on the neck block. I have been curious as to the age of the guitar, but don’t know where to look as everyone tells me it is not listed in their guitar year books. It looks rather ugly but sounds very good. I had a man offer to trade me is D-35 Martin for it straight across in the seventies. Do you know where to look up the age??
I’m looking for any RED LABEL, but especially the FG-180 and FG-300. Also I would love to have any FG-1000j, FG-1200j, FG-1500, FG-2000. Email me at [email protected] with what you have and a price. A picture would be great if you have one.
I have a FG 300-12 string “That’s a rare one, only made 1974-75 and not imported to the US. made in Japan, Yamaha Nippon Gakki. It looks very minty. It was made June 7, 1975.”
I have a Yamaha FG-300 Red Label. It’s missing the pickguard so I could sell it for cheap if you are interested.

Hope someone can help. I recently bought an old yamaha acoustic guitar but unfortunately the label has been torn in half and so I can not identify the model.
The model finshes in 50. From the ID number I know it was made in 65, 75, 85, 95 or 2005. It is definitely not 2005. From the wear on the neck I do not think it is 95. The stockhead is the v cut and has an eagle logo (looking like a Y) on it below the yamaha name. I can provide photos if that would help, but can anybody tell what model this guitar is?
Cheers
P
Update on this is that I now think the model number is a 450 and the Guitar was made in Taiwan so that appears to date it as 1985 onwards.

I have a CJ838S from the late 70’s so I’m told. Very nice quality jumbo with very rich tones. Pretty rare. Not many made from what I’ve learned. What is the "II" part of the 838 that you have? How much did you pay for it?
I’m looking for an FG-180. Anyone having one for sale, please email me.
Thanks.
