Has anyone heard of this brand of guitar? I think it must be a German based company because the word "Gitarrenbaumeister" is written underneath the name. Does anyone know if this is a good brand?

greco guitars

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

I have in my possession a 12 string greco guitar, but I know very little about it. It appears to have been made sometime in the late 60's or early 70's. If anyone has info, E-mail me.

Acoustic Greco Guitar

I have an acoustic Greco guitar model No. F-140. Also on the manufacturer's label is printed Made in Japan. As far as I can tell it was made in the late 1960s, but I'm not sure. It has a very nice sound. If anybody has any information about this I would be happy to hear from you.

Re: Acoustic Greco Guitar

Hi, I also have a greco 12 string accustic from the late 60's. made in japan, nice sound. When ever I query the internet I always end up at Ibanez sights. I don't know any more than you did back in 2002 when posted this query. But if you have learned anything new since then please mail me back. Thanks, Jay

Re: info about an old Italian Guitar

: I own an old Italian Guitar. I bought it new around '65 and have had it ever since. The only identification it has is a small logo located in the top left hand corner on the body that says "FM". The back of the neck has a small label that says "Made in Italy". Thats it. Any idea as to the origin of this old boy? Its white with a red pick guard. Very pretty. 3 pick-ups, volume and tone controls, a four position switch to select pick-ups and an on/off switch. Any idea as to its value? I've never seen another one like and neither has anyone else I've shown it to.

I bought an eko guitar (italian) 6 string acoustic with 14 frets free of the hull, like the country guitars, but otherwise like a classical with steelstrings. The sound quality is beautiful but not very loud.

I was given on the same time a broken Eko 12 string accoustic guitar. I fixed it in my own way and it is the most reliable guitar, you can imagine.

Through this experience i have found that Eko guitars have an excellent neck which basically does not bend with age. They have a nice sound, but are so reinforced that the sound is not very loud. The only argument other than possibly the volume that I have against eko guitars is that the varnish cracks. The six string had three or four long cracks on its whole front and the varnish on the 12 string that was ready for the tip looks like a broken window that hasn't fallen out yet.

Value. about 1995 I bought the 6 string eko for $145 Australian = maybe present value $190 Australian = maybe $85 Us. The neck is the most musical part of the guitar and I think the value of the guitar for the real conoisseur rises and falls with the reliability of the neck. Anybody can make a hull and many make them well but not necks. So I think if the hull is uncracked put atleast $500 Australian = $250 Us on your guitar. If it of course sounds good and you have no problems with the bridge and other things.

But bear in mind I am only an amateur too.

Good Luck

Dimitris:

I have one too! I paid $150 for it in the mid-80s at a pawn-shop in Monterey California. I had played a friend's Eko for some months and
liked the tone.....

Current value? I've seen the straight acoustic listed for $400 US. But yours is only the third a-e Ranger VI I've encountered and the first two looked totally different from each other!

Best,

Fred Little

Re: info about an EKO guitar

I have just aquired an EKO Ranger6 acoustic/electric it has a piezo pickup built into the bridge. I paid $140 australian for it, It is in really good condition and plays well. For a cheap guitar it is very well made. It is the only one I have seen in this country in the last 20 years.

Re: Fender steel guitar

I just bought one today. Serial # 1055. I'm told it's a 1962 model. It's cream coloured and everything else sounds identical. It has two controls near the top and one at the bottom of the strings in the middle. I paid $588.00 (Canadian) at a pawn shop. Sounds great!

A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

could anyone reply to this,,,,,for disadvantages and advantages.....etc...

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

If you have a boat to row, buy a Fender. If you are serious, buy a Gibson. PERIOD.END OF CONVERSATION.

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

: could anyone reply to this,,,,,for disadvantages and advantages.....etc...

Wow that is a hard one. I used to play with the les Paul alot and I really enjoyed that solid feel.
I used a fender strat now and could not give a ya or na on either both great axes. That would be like comparing two very good pieces of art.

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

: could anyone reply to this,,,,,for disadvantages and advantages.....etc...
I saw this question and felt it was my duty as a guitarist to reply. If you buy a strat over a paul you're an idiot!
Les Pauls have better everything: set neck for better tone and sustain, humbuckers not cheap ass singles, carved tops, stop tail pice for tune stability and the list keeps going.
The only reason to buy a strat is if your toilet's out of order! (gotta piss someware)

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

What you have to say is stupid, ignorant, and just downright mean. The Stratocaster and the Les Paul are both wonderful guitars, (among many others), with their own unique features.

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

well said. it is virtually impossible for a Strat or a Les Paul to replace the other in its own pure sound. Especially true when playing a vintage tube amp without effects processors. Music would be the poorer if either had never been made.

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

: the Gibson is a classic & a better investment(if resale becomes necessary) however, the strat is a much easier to work on and because of the bolt-on neck it allows easier neck adjustment and changes of set-up(heavier strings, etc.)
: playing style, pickups, & feel of the neck are most important
: the strat has single-coils which are brighter, more "stinging" and (unfortunately) more prone to background noise and feedback; the les paul's humbuckers, by contrast provide a classic clean mellow sound with greater sustain;
: ultimately the feel of the board under your fingers and the quality of the fretwork should be your guide

Re: A Gibson Les paul OR A Fender Stratocaster??

to be honest both are of equal quality they both have been the industry standered so they will have equal oppsers on both sides of the coin my true suggestion is to try them both out for yourself and make your own personal choice as to wich you prefer there are alot of other guitar manufactures as well out there that produce some real sweet playing and hot sounding instruments as long as yer hardware woods and tuners are good it can be an awsome guitar no matter what the name is if yer a good guitarist er want to be perhaps shoping fer feel of the instrument is in yer best intrest if yer a collector collect both dont listen to slobs saying one over other thats oppinion an both are great collectors pieces
