Yamaha Sw1000xg
does it need a mixer for pc recording? any suggestion on mic and setup?
Re: Yamaha Sw1000xg
: does it need a mixer for pc recording? any suggestion on mic and setup?
No, it has an onboard 0r2 mixer!!!!!! Why would you need a mic ? If it's to record your amp use the headphones or line out. However the sw1000xg has a fantastic range of distortions & amp sims, from tube to combo & stack, plus eq's & more importantly an accurate compression tool. If it's for vocals just use the xg. Hope it helps. Phil. Ps this is a great piece of kit
zoom 505=toy?
does zoom 505 good enought to simulate amps and give warm distortion (pro stantard...recording..live..etc)?
Re: zoom 505=toy?
: does zoom 505 good enought to simulate amps and give warm distortion (pro stantard...recording..live..etc)?
Not sure about 505
I have 505 II and can get good sound through headphones on the modded Marshall, Mesa and Peavey ..fender also to some extent.
Good enough for recording, super with pedal in front ( TS5 or XXL)
don't like at all the other disto module sounds (rythm, od, dist, blues, lead, metal)
Modulation effects are from satisfactory to good.
drawbacks with Zoom505II imho:
- you can't have delay and reverb together (very bad)
- delay is too short (370 msec.)
- delay is ping - ponged form left to right if you are in stereo (awful)
- needs lots of tweaking to get good sound ( but you can get good sounds = tone)
this is all what i can say so far
it's not POD of course, but i have Pod as well and to some extent zoom505II has its strenghts over POD( price at first)
my suggestion : try it thoroughly , don't stick to the default patches , they sound horrible at least through headphones
if 505 misses the amp models better look for a 505II in my opinion, cause that's what makes it for the 505II.
good luck

HELP !! Guitar beginner needs veteran help
I really want to begin to play the guitar,,but my brain is swamped with the choices of what Acouctic guitar I should start with,,one that is inexpensive,,but has sound good enough so that if the notes and music sound bad,,i know its me and no the instrument. Any suggestions on a first time Acoustic guitar is big time welcome
Re: HELP !! Guitar beginner needs veteran help
: Here you go: What's your favorite band? Do you want to play like them? What do they use? What can you spend? Start with the general questions and get specific, then you should have an idea of what your choices are.
Re: HELP !! Guitar beginner needs veteran help
Frank is right. Biggest factor is whats your budget??
$200 ? Then you'll end up with a laminated top guitar that sounds like a $200 guitar. More info please.
Re: HELP !! Guitar beginner needs veteran help
G,
What you should do is figure out how much you can afford, and then find someone in your area that knows about guitars, and have him/her go with you to the music store, to make sure you get something worth the money. You should be able to get a pretty good acoustic for $400 or more....look at the Alvarez Yairi models, they have nice necks and a pretty good sound.
Good luck

My budget allows $400 for a beginner type guitar. Blues are the thing for me. Everything from Texas blues (Stevie Ray),to Guitar Shorty,Johnny Copeland,Albert Collins,Buddy Guy and B.B King of course. Thanks for the help so far,,any info is good info!
Re: HELP !! Guitar beginner needs veteran help
For blues, I would look at a Martin DM series guitar. A little more than you want to spend, but worth it.
Alvarez is also a good choice. If you really want to keep to a budget, Yamaha makes inexpensive acoustics that play well. A good guitar salesperson should be able to steer you in the right direction for your budget too. Good luck

As luck would have it,,Ii did some reasearch on the Alvarez line.. The Yairi series is well out of my league right now,,so I'm seriously considering an Alvarez AD70S model,,priced inexpenive,,but with good reviews.

Fleta guitar
I am interested in selling my Fleta guitar, one of the master's editions from 1964. It is in excellent condition and needs playing. The quality of the sound is supreme. Anyone interested?

Led Zepplin, BBC Sessions
I was wondernig if anyone has tab for this great Led Zepplin Cd, because the "Black dog" and "Stairway to heaven" solos are better than solos of the released version, "Led Zepplin IV".
Re: Led Zepplin, BBC Sessions
I was wondering why you want tab to learn a solo?, just play what you feel over it and find your own style. Jimi Page is without a doubt one of the greatest guitarists but what makes him brilliant is his oringinal style of his own influences i.e blues folk/country, let his style inspire you and create your "own" wicked style : I was wondernig if anyone has tab for this great Led Zepplin Cd, because the "Black dog" and "Stairway to heaven" solos are better than solos of the released version, "Led Zepplin IV".

I've never tried something like that before, but as long as the impedence matches between the head and cabinet, it should work just fine. If I'm not mistaken, the VS Cabinets are a little smaller than the standard types of Marshalls, but that should be about the only difference.
Help with buying acoustic guitar
I want a cutaway acoustic guitar w/ pickups, but don't have a lot of cash. Any suggestions would be great. Later.

fender amplifiers
I have a fender vibrolux guitar amplifier from somewhere in the 60's if anyone has any information on this including price please let me know
thank you
Re: fender amplifiers
Hi,
A little more info would help. Is it a Black Face? What is the serial #? Does it still have the tube chart on it? If so, what #'s are on this? There should be 2 letters stamped on the tube chart. This will indicate what year it is. Does it have the original speakers? If so what is the # on the speaker?

Rhodes
Does anybody know how to recreate Randy Rhodes sound a la Tribute. I have read some articles and they seem to be wrong.
Re: Rhodes
I know that he triple-recorded all his guitar parts. That would have something to do with his sound.
-Rick
that was a live cd....
he used jackson rhoads model guitars (one white, one black) mainly in '81, which were loaded with duncan sh-6:bridge/sh-2:neck pickups. his amps were marshall plexis into marshall cabs with altec speakers. he also used mxr pedals... a eq, chorus, flanger and a roland space echo. his strings were ghs stainless steel, 10-52 guage. in '80 he used the creme les paul custom and sandoval polka dot v, but the tribute lp was recorded in '81 he used his jacksons most often. i was at an '81 ozzy show, so i know.
Re: that was a live cd....
Damn dude, you rule, I would have loved to have gone to see Randy play in '81, but I wasn't born yet. I didn't realize that that was the live one. That triple-recorded thing is still good to know when listening to his studio stuff... it makes one feel less inadequate as a guitarist.
-Rick
Inadequacy
I makes me feel more inadequate knowing that he could play so precisely 3 times over so that it sounded as if it was once, thick sound. I have read that Rhodes was frequently applauded in studios for his ability to duplicate his own work over and over so well.
PLEASE HELP!!! Want to buy a guitar
I posted a message yesterday, but I think its getting lost in the mix, so I used the obnoxious all caps. Anyway, I want to buy a good cutaway acoustic guitar with pickups. I'm kind of low on funds (can spend about $200-300), so any suggestions? I need some help here. Thanks all.
Re: PLEASE HELP!!! Want to buy a guitar
At Guitar Center, there are specials on acoustic guitars with pickups. I have a Fender DG20CE which i originally bought for $579.99, but now the price droped $230 at a final cost for $349.00 due to a special on equipment. This is a big drop for an expensive guitar, I have also seen a similar Fender Guitar with pickups for with a price tag of $299(originally $469)in their recent catalog.
Re: PLEASE HELP!!! Want to buy a guitar
You can't get a GOOD new acoustic / electric cutaway for $200 -$300 that I've ever heard of. One of the cheaper brands is Samick, they may make one in that price range. Save up a little more for a decent guitar. Remember, you get what you pay for!
Re: PLEASE HELP!!! Want to buy a guitar
please provide me with tips on how to select a good acoustic guitar within a resonable budget......
like what i should look out for a good guitar....
TASCAM 424MKIII
I AM INTERESTED IN BUYING A TASCAM 424MKIII RECORDER
BUT I'VE SEEN SOME POST THAT PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE GETTING
A GOOD TAPE PLAYBACK. SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOU CANT TAKE THE TAPE FROM THE
424 AND PLAY IT BACK ON A NORMAL CASSETTE DECK.
DO YOU HAVE TO DO MIXING DONE BEFORE YOU CAN LISTEN TO
IT ON A NORMAL RECORDER ? WHATS UP WITH THAT ??

that goes for any multi track recorder......if your using allfour tracks then only two will play......because the other two are on the flip side of the tape.......and if you flip it youll hear those two in reverse.......if you only use two tracks then youll hear it all.......now to the speed thing ......multitrackers record at twice the speed....for better fidelity..... so it plays back at half the speed if on a normal cassette deck......but there is a way......because even my lowly 424mkII has a switch that allows you to record at high or low speed and the low one is normal cassette speed.....Im sure that the newer model allows the same thing
NEED HELP ON BUYING AN ELECTRIC GUITAR.
Sorry for the caps, but this needs attention. I am going to sell my Fender DG20CE Acoustic guitar and use that money to buy a electric guitar. I figure i'll get $300 for it. I want to know if i should which i should spend more money on, an amplifier, or a pedal. I'm a Zepplin fan, so I want to play solo's like Jimmy Page. I think he uses and overdrive, but should I buy an expenisve amp that has built in distortion, or should i buy a less expensive and amp spend a more of the money on a good pedal? RSVP please!
Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING AN ELECTRIC GUITAR.
Buy the best amp you can. Cheap amps sound cheap, even with a decent pedal. Try some amps out at the store in your price range. Good luck
