Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING AN ELECTRIC GUITAR.
: Sorry for the caps, but this needs attention. I am going to sell my Fender DG20CE Acoustic guitar and use that money to buy a electric guitar. I figure i'll get $300 for it. I want to know if i should which i should spend more money on, an amplifier, or a pedal. I'm a Zepplin fan, so I want to play solo's like Jimmy Page. I think he uses and overdrive, but should I buy an expenisve amp that has built in distortion, or should i buy a less expensive and amp spend a more of the money on a good pedal? RSVP please!
Buy a nice guitar and amp. You can purchase lots of good guitars for under $500. Forget the pedals and buy a good amp. Pedals are cheap and you can always get them later. Good luck.

Getting into pc recording..advice for guitar processors?
I want to start recording on my pc.Cakewalk is my choice for software. What I'm looking for is advice on direct guitar processors.I want the versatility from country to rock. From Fender to a hot rodded Marshall.I like the "idea" that , I can just walk up to my pc and sound like whatever, whoever and whenever I want, and it'll sound like a store bought artists cd.I've heard a couple samples from POD Line 6,Roland gr-33& vg-88 over my pc, not very impressed, although it is thru pc speakers. I have a Lee Jackson Mod 78 Marshall,(absolutely AWESOME!!!) but WAY too loud for home recording.I havent tried my ADA MP-1 yet(storage). So if anyone can help out a fellow guitarist looking for "the sound" capable processor(s) for direct recording, please reply. Thanx
Re: Getting into pc recording..advice for guitar processors?
: while you may feel that your amp is too loud to record on your pc, consider recording through a mic. you'll avoid that direct to pc buzz from the ground loop problems and most mics will actually filter out some of those super high frequency ossilations of high gain amps...get a shure sm57 ..(99$) at most places, get it right up to the grill cloth. (add another mic at about 4 feet if you want a more live sound or just back the first mic away..(listen and judge) also get an adapter so you can plug the mic right into your pc.
this setup is THE pro way to record guitars!
try it and see!!!

Sorry this is a late follow up but, I just found this site. If you still need a Bigsby for your Tele check allparts.com they have them. They are expensive though, about $135.00 the part # is TP 3640. You'll also need to change your bridge plate to a flat plate the part # is BP 051 and is about $32.00. You will probably need to change the bridge also. I don't think the bridge that comes with the Bigsby will work on the bridge plate. You'll need a bridge with "cups" like on a Jaguar, the part # for the bridge you need is SB 210 about $40.00 I hope this helps. I have a Bigsby on one of my Teles, they actually help in keeping your guitar in tune. I also have a Bigsby B-Bender (also known as a palm pedal) installed on another Tele. These are hard to come by but, if you ever find one don't pass it up.
Fender does make one but, they are only available if you have a guitar Master Built. Also check e-bay
How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
Okay, your at a party or gig & you have one or two pints, just to be social of course, but as we all know after a few, even though we feel merry our playing goes down faster than a valley girl! So should you spend some time practing when slightly drunk (I do not mean get slammed just to practice). I do practice after I come in from my local pub on Friday. Thing is everyone wants to enjoy themselves, & when out a couple of pints is just the ticket. Plus has anyone played well when totally bollocked, even though they did not intend to get that way. Can it be done?

Re: How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
I suppose you need to figure out on your own if you can do that or not, but I find it ridiculous to be at home learning licks "whilst drunk". As far as I'm concerned, my days of playing drunk are over. However, some people can do this and wail...Another guitar player/singer I used to be in a band with is a perfect example. My first gig with this band, he was drinking, tripping, and hell knows what else, and played like nothing was up!
Re: How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
i cannot resist dropping a few lines, don't take this too seriously..
i've been playing gigs for 20 years now, ever since i was eight. by the time i turned eighteen i joined a band that got to do bigger venues than the ones i was familiar with and i couldn't help noticing that a few pints or so made me feel more relaxed and confident as i sometimes got a bit nervous. it wasn't as easy to notice that having had a few pints more than that had a disasterous effect in performance. as years have gone by and these days i do maybe 50-100 gigs a year in four different groups, i can say that i can play drunk. the cost is that during the 5 past years, i haven't played a single gig sober. My point in all this blabber is that if you play as well drunk as you would do sober, you're either a lousy player or your body doesn't respond to alcohol any longer. in my opinion, that can be translated as being an alcoholic, which unfortunately seems to be the case with me. to be less philosophical, here's another point of view. during these years i've played with many great musicians and the one thing common with guys i know that can do fabulous tricks and keep their act together whilst drunk is that they DRINK A LOT. I guess you could say they practice whilst drunk but that's only because they're drunk almost all the time! this is of course just my sight on the issue and i realize that not all people turn into vinos after a few drinks but i think it doesn't hurt remembering that these things tend to go over the top with some people. OK, i'll cut the moralistic crap, hope i didn't step on anyones foot. have fun, i will anyway! ;-)

Re: How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
oops.
You don't learn to play drunk at the house, it's a do or die when you are live thing.
I have gone through gigs and not known how I got there,
(gotta love your free spending fans).
Just like in everything, some people can do things when they are wacked out of their skulls (Jimmy Page rings a bell), and some can't.
When you get funny looks from your band mates, stop drinking for a few minutes!
Good luck!
Re: How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
You always think you still sound good after a few. I had one of our early gigs video taped. We sounded great & looked good during the first set, but the free booze kept coming (we thought that was great) by the 3rd set we were drunk. We sounded bad and looked worse. Just standing there playing (crappy) like zombies. Most of the crowd was blasted so it didn't matter a whole lot. My limit's 2 beers when playing now. If anyone thinks they can sound good drunk, have someone video tape you whilst drinking & playing and find out if you can.
Re: How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
I think a few bevvies can be fine when you want to practice - as long as you don't get rat-arsed and you don't do it all the time. There's something to be said for the lowering of inhibitions and a bit of relaxation on your instrument. Some of my best ideas have come out of being incoherant, but additionally I have vomited while playing and made a total mess of things. You can't have it both ways.
All up - if you're *serious* - I'd make the few drinks the exception rather than the rule. Have fun and make an occasion of it with your mates. But if you have to open a bottle just about everytime you want to jam, practice or gig I'd suggest a visit to the doctor. Alcoholism is an illness.
But from what you've outlined, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Cheers
Geoff

Re: How much time should one practice whilst drunk!!!!
: Yes, it can be done. It helps if the whole band is drunk at the same pace so everyone can groove. it is a fine line between good and shackled! I've played on acid and heard a tape of it. It wasn't great but was what I consider to be mediocre.
Drinkin' and drugs really do mess up bands. The band I'm in now is sober for gigs. We then get blitzed with our nights wages after the show.
yamaha guitar parts
I bought my husband a Yamaha guitar about 30 yrs ago
and it is still as beautiful sounding as ever...even
better. The guitar is an FG-160 6 string. It needs a
new tuning peg assembly but I would like to get an
original one if that is possible. If that is not
possible, what should I get for it?

'70's Ibanez double necks
hello,
I had an Ibanez catalog when I was in Germany in 1977-1978, and saw a double neck Fender copy with a 4 string bass and Strat type neck.
Were any made, and are any for sale out there?
Does anyone have a copy of that catalog? It was a three page fold out with TONS of different guitars.
Thanks,
Mike

double neck bass/guitar wiring

mp3 to wav
How do you convert mp3 files to wav? frustrated!
Re: mp3 to wav
Simple, use winamp, click the O=options, then P=preferences, then output, then click disk writer plugin, then select a folder & then press okay. Close the box down. Now play your sound file ie your mp3 song. What will happen now is that this mp3 song will be transformed to a wv at very high quality. To change the settings back simply follow the above a go to output again but this time just click nullsoft wav output plugin and close. Like I said Too easy. Plus remember that soundforge 4.5c will let you totall edit mp3. Hop that helps, PHil G

AMPS: TUBE V SOLID STATE (FENDER,MARSHALL)
i have a list of amps im lookin at purchasing. i play classic rock and some metal (metallica). ive only been playin a year or so. THe amps are: MARSHALL JCM 2000 DSL 401, MARSHALL VS100R, FENDER HOT ROD DELUXE, FENDER PRINCTON 65. if anyone has any info on these (especially teh vs100R) it will be greatly appreciated. as i said, ive only been playin a year so im not too sure on what to look for in an amp.
Re: AMPS: TUBE V SOLID STATE (FENDER,MARSHALL)
I own a Fender Princeton and like it a lot. Especially the clean sound. I do use a multi effects pedal for distortion. As always, I would suggest taking YOUR guitar to your music store and try out these amps. P.S. Don't limit yourself to just these model amps.
Good luck.
Re: AMPS: TUBE V SOLID STATE (FENDER
If your looking for a metallica sound you might want to try some "Mesa/Boogie" gear, it's expensive but extremly high in quality. I don't know if you've heard of rackmount gear but it's basically like seperating the power section and the preamp section ( the knobs), in to two seperate units, A 'Power amp" and a "Pre-amp". Metallica uses a Mesa/Boogie "tri-axis" Preamp, and a "Strategy 400" power amp, (400 means 400 watts of power
The strategy 400 however has been dis-continued. But just like a home stereo amplifier, there are power amps available in both mono and stereo. Mesa/Boogie newest stereo power amp is the "2/90" (that's: Two Nintey). So if you were interested in that type of sound you could use those two products. And the Triaxis Has ninety Channels!!!
If you like the pantera sound " Randall" makes some pretty kick ass amps at a pretty fuckin' low price. Check out the " RG-100 Head". It's Cheap But Insane in tone. It is a "intact" amp( the pre-amp and power amp are together as in any other head.) The RG-100 goes for about $900.00 American. And the Two Mesa units go for about $2000.00 each unit Canadian!!!!
But if you want the classic Rock sound you probably want a " tubed" amp (mesa/boogie), rather than a solid state sound like a Randall. But check them both out, it's all about personal preference, the randalls may be just what you want.

Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
Help!
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?

tele's are great (and I play a strat!)
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
teles rock they are the best kind of guitar ever
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
I play a strat as well & like Tele's too.
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
: well, they have been made for 50 years, so....
Seriously, great guitar. Versatile, but probably won't do extreme metal tones. The tele is my favorite Fender and I own strats, Jags and teles. Even the Mexican ones (try to get one that says Fender on the headstock and Squier in small letters). They jsut make 'em right almost every time.
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
Teles rule.
I played a strat for years, had a go on a mates Tele, and was totally converted. bolocks you can't get a beast beefy tone out of them, stick a set of 11's on, and it sounds awesome, just look at Keef. Bombproof too, no trems or delicate bridge set ups.....Teles are the best guitar out there.
: Help!
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
Best Guitars in the world. The only thing you can do to improve them is stick a strat pup in the neck. If you get a good, well balanced brdige pickup (ie, Harmonic Design '54 special), you would be hard-pressed to find a better lead sound.
Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
: Help!
some metal heads maybe turned off by the twang, but when it comes to a strong, clear lead.
you can't beat a Telecaster. So in the realm of the guitar, the tele may not
be the very best, but it is certainly up there.

Re: Telecasters: Are they good guitars? How do they rate?
Great Guitars, if played through a stage 100 or cyber twin head, the most excellent sound you've ever heard and it is the most versitile thing youve ever played.

69 bassman
i have a 69 bassman amp. i play a bass through. i believe it's a 50 watt. (??). it has a cabinet with two 18" woofers and two horns.
i love the sound. however, i do get distortion when turned up about halfway. this is fine for funk stuff, but sometimes it's a little much. i use a compressor to cut down on some of it. i've had it looked at and everything tweaked. is there anything i can do to decrease the muddiness a little? or is it maybe the speakers themselves. there is no way that i can see to remove the face to look at them. i don't want to do any damage in attempting to. lastly, can more power be put into it? how much?
any info would be very helpful.
thanks
james
Re: 69 bassman
correction. it has two 12's in it. no horns. i was thinking of a different amp for some reason.

Mike,
I had the same problem, requiring the Winter 2000 and January 2001 (for a beginner's Jazz
series by Dave K). I looked everywhere I could imagine. Finally found that Borders Books in
the U.S. has an on-line magazine service which still had the issues I was missing. I just received
them today. The site is at www.borders.megamags.com. Service was prompt, cost was at face
value plus a nominal shipping fee.
Hope this helps,
