Heavier strings are far better in every respect if you can get used to the feel of them. Check it out, I'm assuming that your bridge is a sort of Fender-styled tremolo, with a back plate on the back of the guitar. In any event, if you unscrew that back plate, you should see some springs attaching the underside of the tremolo to a metal piece that's screwed into guitar with long screws running parallel to the bpottom of the cavity. If your guitar came with more springs, you should put one or two in (most likely 3 are in now). To do this, unscrew the long screws just far enough to muscle the new springs in, too far and the screws will rip out of the wood. Then tighten the screws back up until the bridge is flush with the top of the body. That's it. If you don't have extra springs, you could probably either find some, or you might be okay with just screwing in the screws in the underside until your bridge is flush.
By the way, after all of this, you might have to change the intonation of your bridge, because thicker strings go over the saddles a little differently. I could help you with that too, if you need it. I hope that this is useful.

.11's have a lot more pull on the trem. if that doesn't help, maybe your springs are shot and you need to replace them.

I have 2 Roscoe Basses, 2 MTD.s Tobias, Pedulla, and Aria, and have had problems with the jacks on 4 of my basses. I'm going back to Monster Cables.

Sorry, I hit the wrong key. I saw this thread by chance and wanted to offer my opinion on electronic tuners. If you choose to use one as the sole method of tunning, you are risking the chance of having a lazy ear. That is, you won't be able to tune without one. When playing a gig, yes, they are very useful since you can't hear yourself as well. At practice, avoid them. You will learn to tune and that,in itself, requires practice. I use a tuning fork to get started after changing strings, but thats about it. When playing with friends, I let them tune with their tuners and then I tune to them.

I recently buy a marshall JCM2000, DSL401 combo , 40 watt with four EL84 output valve. I think this amp have a good classic valve tone (similar to A class british amps like VoXAC30) and I like the sound, but for me is a little for play blues or classic rock and not for modern styles (with multieffects processor added as example).
Anyone have an oppinion about the sound of this amp ?

Hmm. I would definatley check with my doctor for this type of injury.Next,I would check with my instructor. It sounds like your left hand positioning maybe the problem.Try to relax your grip(thumb and first finger)
when playing.Also, lay your hand flatter against the neck.The more you relax and play your body should make the needed adjustments.

Playing guitar is much like working out. Even aggressive practice should bring at most just simple fatigue.

Your symptoms are not typical for a beginning guitarist. It is most likely that your pain is due to something other than the guitar practice. Playing guitar might aggrevate the symptoms however.

If you are not fond of doctors and have not seen one in a decade and you are actually considering a visit, that tells me you are seriously concerned about your ailment and should find a doctor. You may consider one who specializes in or has experience with sports injuries and arthritis.

hi, i had a very similar prob and it was all down to the cheap guitar i had bought.
when i checked the tuning as it stated in the book, i did'nt realise that the strings where actually far to tight so i was playing in a higher scale so to speak. this coupled with a high bridge and top end meant i had to really push hard on the frets causing all the symtoms you have stated.
it was only when a freind called round and picked it up to play that i found this out, he retuned it and a did'nt have to press half as hard on the strings.

Im assuming that hes expressed a love for the Taks...so disreguard any info about buying another brand(my personal love is the Taylors).....but Tak makes alot of great guitars....I dont know what your price range is but if at all possible steer away from the tiawan made models(G series and the like....some can be fine instruments but you have to go play quite a few to find the one)........look for a Japan made Tak it cost a bit more but it a quality hand made guitar that will last a life time.....dont waste time going to every store in town just flip open your yellow pages and call around to see who actually has what I told you about and get some prices and dont let them sell it to you at list price they have a lot of room to work with a guitar priced around $1000 might go for $600-$800.....the bigger the city you live in the better the deal....because they know you can go some where else......good luck
