: Looking to sell Guild F47 late sixties, great condition.

How much are you asking? How long have you owned the instrument? What does "great condition" mean? Please be specific as to crazing (or lack of), any damage due to humidity factors, condition of the finger board and tuning pegs, action, and quality of tone.

      Thanks,
      John

I have an old Guild F30 #67483 that I got in 1969-70. I’ve played it for years and still love it. It needs some work now as the bridge is starting to seperate from the top, raising the action. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the Fresno California area that could be trusted to work on it?

I once had a similar model and had to pawn it in hard times about ten years ago in the Pittsburgh. I am always on the lookout to re-acquire it. Do you know anything about it’s history? Can you submit photos?

      What is your asking price?

      Hello,
I am not a musician. However, I am in possession of a very nice guitar. I try to describe the Guitar as best as I can. I was told that it is a CLASSIC GUITAR. 6 Strings.
The label inside reads “MADEIRA MODEL C 900 by GUILD ADJUSTED and DISTRIBUTED EXCLUSIVELY by GUILD SERIAL.” The Guitar used to belong to the Music Professor of one of School of Music. It is about 20 years old. In Good Condition. Beautiful Wood. Very nice sound. It has an original case.

I do accept credit cards via PAYPAL.

      Thank you,
      M. Foster

I was given this lovely guitar 15 years ago. I don’t play, so it has been in it’s case this long. Can’t find any information on the net about this model. Could be worth something but have no idea. It’s an electro acoustic, cream laquered body. No idea if of it’s age but is in mint condition. Does anyone know much about this model please?

    1. Re: Guild Songbird-C

There are links on the net to look up model and year by serial number. Number is on the back of the head stock and should start with KK if it is a Songbird. If you are interested in selling it I would be interested in finding out a little more about the guitar. Just let me know.
      Thanks,
      Kyle

Ive got one and have used it for nearly 15 years now! Ive had about 3 re-frets, nut changed to bone, and I knocked it once and had to get one of the ribs in the sound hole, im telling ya its lasted and Ive gigged mainly with this great guitar.
Only improvements I have done to it are brass pins to hold the strings, I think I hear a better resonance from them,
I have also installed a K & K transducer pick-up which I will say is one of the best acoustic pickups i have ever heard.
Just keep check on the neck (mine had to be adjusted quite a few times

I have a Madeira A30R as well. It’s held up phenomenally well, and I now share it with my daughter. The sound is rich and full, better than new. It kills me to walk into a guitar store to check out newer guitars that sound like tin on a stick, at twice the price I paid for my A30R. I’d buy another one in a heartbeat if I could find one.

I also have a Mederia A30R. It was passed down to my from my uncle which was passed down to him from his father. It is a wonderful guitar, rich and pure. The tone is none like have a heard from new age guitars. I love it. For such an old guitar it has held up very well and plays like its new, if not better. The quality is just unmatchable. I plan on passing this guitar down to my son or daughter for them to play. Its a great guitar.

I have a Guild (Madiera) A30M Dreadnaught I bought in 1977 (I think). I love the sound. Its better than most expensive guitars today. The neck has always been too wide for me to play comfortably. I will sell it for a reasonable price.

      2. I have a Guild F40 that i could sell, any offers?
        Thomas W Borbely

        : Hi Billy,

: I’ve owned two of these guitars. First one, I bought new in ’71 was stolen in ’76 and I yearned for it constantly. The second one I bought used was a ’76 model, and is my preferred stage instrument to date. I tour nationally as a performing songwriter and perform primarily in solo and duo settings, and it’s perfect for these situations. When I play in larger ‘bluegrass’ style ensembles… I use a dreadnaught guitar as it is much easier to ‘play under’ the rest of the band during solos. But I prefer the Guild when I’m fronting the band on my original music or playing solo.

: The F40 features a slightly wider than normal fingerboard and is known for it’s one-piece, hand carved arched back -which is why they don’t have any bracing on the back. The design of the back provides exceptional projection from this instrument. The F40 is a smaller version of the F50 Jumbo made by Guild. In the 50’s the Jumbo body style was a big hit with acoustic delta blues players for it’s fat sound when carrying the chord comp, and for it’s brilliant bottleneck and lead voices.

: The soundboard (face) is a split-top spruce with scalloped braces. If you’re going to install a pick-up in your instrument, I recommend the Fishman Matrix II which was specifically engineered for Jumbo body guitars. In fact, the matrix II is my preference for ALL acoustic applications as it has double the output of the matrix I. The only downside of any of the matrix pickups is you will most certainly want a instrument processor in line to your PA or your recording gear if you’re using the pickup for recording applications. I use the Boss model AD-5 acoustic instrument processor as it allows me to model a number of different microphones via the pickup, and provides really excellent feedback controls. It’s great for live stage applications, but I still prefer a large diaphram mic for recording applications – though I do use the pickup for recording in my living room when the recordings are simply a ‘scratch-pad’ for songwriting. There are other good options besides the AD-5, such as the AD-3 by Boss, and LR Baggs makes a good system too.

: I think the reason you don’t hear much about the F40 is they were not made in great quantity and were not manufactured for very long. The model came out in the early 70’s and before it could really get recognized, Guild was bought out by Fender (post Leo Fender days) and the model was no longer made after that. It’s my all time favorite acoustic guitar – though if I could find a pre-war Martin or Gibson I could afford… I hope I’ve helped you some!

  10. Guild A-50 1960's Model
    David

This my sisters old guitar that has hardly ever been used. It’s in excellent condition. Can anyone give me info. on this instrument and what it may be worth?

    1. Re: Guild F-20
      Karen

: I have picked up a Guild F-20 acoustic that came from a garage sale ($8.00). What a bargain. Anyway, it looks like a 3/4 size guitar, the pick guard has shrunk in size (the edges are curling also) and it’s carrying case looks like brown, imitation alligator skin with that wonderful thin green felt on the inside. Anyone shed some light on this old F-20? It looks like it was born in 1957. Thanks

Back in 1965, I had my heart set on a Guild F-20. I’m only 5’2", so the 3/4 size was perfect for me, but this little accoustic delivered a full resonant sound. My dear father, who passed away in 1963, presented me w/ the guitar when I entered college later in 1965. I played it (and loved it — never found anything I liked better) until the late 90’s when my eldest son begged me to let him borrow it. I gave in, and my Guild went to live w/ him in Indianapolis. Sadly, his house was robbed in the summer of 2003 while he and his family were vacationing in Florida. The thieves took everything, including my Guild. It had a small, almost invisible, crack in the soundboard down towards the endpin. I’d filed down the nut so that the action was incredible (it was already good to start with). To this day, I feel a wave of grief every time I think of my lost Guild F-20, and I’m not a materialistic person who cares about "things". My guitar was like a close friend, and of course, it meant even more to me since it was a gift from my father. I think he paid around $150 for it in 1965. You are blessed beyond belief to have found one for $8. It’s a treasure.

        HOW

I have had my F-20 since I bought it in 1970 in Berekely California. I was 14. It sounds like an angel. It has needed reapir over the years frets tuners and now a bridge plate. But you will not find a nicer sounding small guitar. Its a plain brown wrapper but ther is quite a gift inside.
        How

        Karen

Oops! — just read my comment after submitting it. My dad passed away in 1993, not 1963. BTW, my guitar also came in a brown imitation-alligator case w/ green felt lining, so yours must be the same vintage exactly.

Bought my Guild F20 in 1976 – spruce top, mahogany back/sides, teardrop shape plec guard. It has served me well, though now a little battered! This model was I think reintriduced in the 80’s, with current shape pick guard. Friends tell me that it is good for blues, although I play folk. There aren’t many about, look after it!

Thanks for the response. Glad to hear the F-20 is still around. I took mine to a dealer who refurbishes stringed instruments and he couldn’t find any info on this F-20 of mine, but he was quick to offer me $75 for it. I too, play some folk music, but I enjoy bluegrass as well. I enjoy playing John Prine tunes. They seem to work out well in the coffee houses and festivals around here.

I too had an F20 and it too, was stolen. I loved that guitar and strung it with hybrid guage electric strings. All it was missing was a cutaway and it would have been perfect. I miss that guitar like you wouldn’t believe and in his busking days, Slaid Cleaves sat in my living room practising his chords on it!

Thanks

: Hi: Not sure if you still own it..but…Keep your Guild F-20. Any Dealer offering you 75.00 for it is ripping you off "Big Time" & playing on your naivete. You have a treasure…despite what you paid for it! They are fine guitars and worth a heck of alot more than 75.00….Food for thought.

    1. Re: 1971 Guild D 35
      Glen Parker

I too own a 70/71 D-35 Guild. I bought it ised (almost like new) in 1973 and paie $259.00 for it – I still have the sales slip. It has mahogany back and sides, spruce top. Mine is original except I changed the machine heads to Grover Tunematics about 20 years ago.
I used my Guild for many types of playing applications, from folk to bluegrass to fingerstyle picking and it has responded very well over the years. In fact, I always said I would not trade it for many of the Martins I’ve heard (that was a lie, I would have traded it! Ha!)
Seriously, the Guild has been a great guitar and the sound has improved over the years. The sound is a little thin on the bottom end but you can’t have everything for $250 bucks.
I now also own a 2001 Martin Herringbone D-28. To compare, the Martin is like driving a Buick and the Guild is like a Chevy Malibou. The Martin has the "boom" on the bottom end and the "ring" on the top that most people like for bluegrass and flatpicking in general. That comes from the Sitka spruce top, rosewood back and sides and, in the case of the Herringbone, scalloped bracing.
The Guild’s mahogany gives and warmer tone and a nice, overall sound for accompanying your vocals or another person singing. Teh Guild would compare favourably to most J-45 Gibsons as the construction woods are the same. Problems arise when you are playing with two or three other instruments, the Guild’s voice can easily get lost in the group.
Hope this helps. I love my Guild and would never part with it. Since I got my Martin, I’ve been much more aware of taking care of the wood with humidifiers and making sure the instrument doesn’t dry out. The Guild has come along for the ride and sits in my guitar room with the Martin benefiting from all that great moisture in the air – something it never had for the past 38 years.

Enjoy the Guild and take care of it.

      Paul Spillenger

      I own a 1971 Guild D 35 NT, which I bought … in 1971. I have a couple of questions.

      1. When I bought this guitar, I was 15 and not too obsessed with the details of its manufacture. I love its sound, which has only improved with the years, but I don’t know anything about its construction. Can anyone tell me what woods it is made of, and anything else about its construction you might care to add?

      2. What is the general consensus on the quality of this guitar? In the last couple of years I have gotten seriously into flatpicking, and I notice it doesn’t quite have the clarity, especially on the treble strings, I would prefer to have for this style of playing, though this could be a set-up/maintenance issue as well as intrinsic to the guitar itself. So, what’s the word on the 1971 Guild D 35?

      Thanks.

I’ve been searching the net for information on Guild 6P classical guitar. So far I got the impression that 6P was made by Alhambra per their model of 6P and the rosette looking alike. As mentioned on the label in the sound hole, "distributed by Guild". Since Guild became a part of Fender, this series seem to have disappeared and no information seem to exist. I would really appreciate any information.

I have one with serial number 300001. the date stamped on it is February 18, 1998. Yours probably has a date, too but you have to look hard. It is stamped inside on the block of wood where the neck meets the body. You need a flashlight to find it.

Hi. I have recently come into my Dad’s Guild F30NT. Serial number A1-287 (at least that’s what it looks like, it’s hand written). He owned a recording studio, and as his "house axe", it got very little use, and excellent care, and subsequently is in gorgeous condition.

I would love to know what year this guitar was made, and what it’s value might be. In lieu of that, perhaps someone could refer me to a site where I could find this kind of info.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Dave i would say that you have a nice guitar of about mid sixties, valued at aprox. 500 to 1000 $ us. learn to play it, make dad happy and you have a new friend.

The serial number is probably AJ not AI. That prefix was used around ’65-’69. Its probably worth 750-1000 I think, and there is possibility that it might be worth more. I’m not sure about its current market value. I’m seeking to buy one from this era, and this is the price I’m expecting to find it at. PW.

I bought a Guild f30 antique starburst brand new in 1964 for $180.00 I still have it and play it regular. It has been a really good almost trouble free guitar. I took it into a music store for a check up several years ago, and mentioned to the owner that it was getting old and maybe I should replace it. He told me No way! should I ever let this guitar go. It’s gonna be very valuable someday. Seeing that the new ones sell for $1300 and up, I guess he gave me good advice.

I have a six string Guild Madeira, model P600R SN#A1669. I love the guitar, but was wondering if anyone could let me know what the market value is today. Thanks Craig Howard

    1. Re: Whats it worth!
      patrick ward

It depends on the shape the guitar is in and how well the buyer knows Guild and Madeira. What year was it made, that could make a difference too. I have the P500. Is yours a 2 or 3 piece back?

the x-50 model was an entry level guitar , made in N.Y.C. in the 50’s , then moved thier shop to Hoboken , N.J. in the late 60’s ,early 70’s.
they were made from laminated maple tops-(which is a cheaper way of making guitars )-instead of solid tops and backs.
A mint condition 1950’s x-50 model would run you about $500.00-$600.00 tops.
these are great guitars!!! i have my grandfathers 1951 x-50,and it still plays like a dream …even though it’s a little worn around the edges. And ya just can’t beat that tone!!!!
