This popular thread has been given its own page : Kiso Suzuki guitar model WR 150 ser#00918
The first two numbers of the serial number 00 possibly means that the guitar was made in 1970.
I think that you should never sell or trade your guitar.
On the head is the name CF SUZUKI & Co. Est. 1951
I have the same guitar serial number 00917. How much coincidence is that? I’ll never sell mine either.
I just acquired a WR150 serial # 00921 and I love it. I know very little about it. Nice sounding guitar.
Came across a Suzuki F-100 Model 00932. Anyone know any info on this guitar or where to find it?
Thanks!
Just traded a Gibson Hummingbird Reproduction for a Suzuki WR-150 serial#00947 yesterday and i love this new guitar . I did a few minor repairs like truss ross adjustment and new strings, plus i filled down the bridge a little bit and BOOM a beauty was born again!!
Keeping IT
I got this guitar about two years ago from a friend, I write country, and he said it would help me write, it does. I would like to know more about the guitar, because I have someone trying to buy it off me.
Inside the sound hole it says Kiso Suzuki Violin Co. LTD. This is in a circle with what looks like wheate stems on both sides, and in the middle at the top is a very special S, which is in another design. All this means nothing to me. On the head is the name CF SUZUKI & Co. Est. 1951 .. This is all writen in gold lettering. The guitar sound better then any I have ever played. A musician friend offered to trade me a Martin for it, he said it played better then it, and paid alot of money for the Martin. Can anyone give me any info. What to do ????
just acquired this guitar is currently missing a bridge I am making some enquiries to try and locate original bridge, it seems to be worth the effort to restore even if I have to make or purchase a replacement bridge. Since it seems to be a Martin copy perhaps I could start there.

It is a very old quitar….
I have one of these, from what I have gathered it dates from around 1968. As for value we all know that Suzuki guitars although giant killers are well under valued, so I would say if you like it keep it ! these guitars will show there true value in the future…

Hi we have recently inherited a beautiful 6 string acoustic guitar. The label indicates that it was made by the Suzuki Violin Company in Japan. It has 2 numbers: RM10169 and 1665. Does anybody have any idea of its value for insurance purposes?
I have 1663 .It’s in bad state surface wise but sounds nice and plays very well.Wouldn’t expect to get more than £30-£35 for it in uk .sorry.
I own a J.watson & co- semi acoustic that I have owned,played, loved & recorded with since the early/mid 80’s
: I have never seen another modle like it so can anyone give me some history details & perhaps rough value?
: It is a ‘copy’ in shape & style to the Gibson Es-335 TD with two pick ups& mine is an all Black finish. I cant find a serial number on it but it does have a made in Japan sticker on the back of the head.
: As I said , I would really appreciate any information on this great guitar
recently bought a sad old morris (1972) acoustic f-15 at a street bazaar in Tanzania. Beautiful sound. Anybody know anything about this guitar? She need lots of TlC but appears to have a voice worth saving.
yvonne (rob the man will be doing all the work)
I have a Suzuki Three S AE20 and would appreciate any info about this guitar; year of manufacture, value etc? I acquired it in the early 80’s as a family hand-me-down. (And it still plays beautifully.)
I have a Suzuki Three S AE20L…..am also looking for info..not much around
🙁
All that I have found is that they are no longer in production…the factory now only makes violins…so these are becoming very rare.
here is a couple of links you may like to follow 🙂
Cheers S 🙂

Hi
I was checking out guitars at the pawn shop today and I saw this beautiful shaped guitar with the most deep rich colored wood top, and when I looked inside the back was made of a real dark wood like mahogany. There was a piece missing from the machine heads and the strings were broken, and I guess that’s why they were selling it for 35 bucks. Anyway I went to the music store and got a new set of machine heads and some strings for it and when I put it all back together it sounded brilliant. It makes my other classical guitar sound very lame indeed. The Suzuki has a powerful clear tone and I’m stoked.
The label inside is square with a light green pattern on it, and the words Suzuki, Model number 10. Japan
I went to the Suzuki website and it seems they make most of their classical guitars with a mahogany back and a spruce top.
It’s seriously one good looking and great sounding guitar that I will treasure for life.
I’ve been checking out guitars new and old all over the place for months and this one has the best wood I’ve seen yet, and the nicest shape.
I have a forty year old Washburn w200 the serial number is to faded to read trying to find others like it?
I know this post is several years old, but I actually have the same question as you did, and was wondering if you have any advice or ideas on where to find out information? Thanks!
I have a No. 18 that needs a good home. I can’t find any info about it. Can anybody help? Some kind of a trade might be possible-like for a good flat-top.
I think I got this guitar in the early 70’s. I never used it much but it has some finish problems from years in storage. Help

: Hello. I bought mine in San Francisco in 1970 but don’t play it much because it sounds kinda "thin" and "tinny". Anybody think this could be because my strings are light gauge? There are many things about this guitar I just love. Appreciate your responses.
: Craig.
Hey Craig,
I’ve got a Suzuki F120 12 string. Bought it 5-6 years ago from a pawn shop. Love it. Paid about $150 for it. It has surprised more people than any other guitar I own. They pick it up and sniff, "Oh, it’s a Suzuki," like its going to bite them. Then they play it and poof, they fall in love. I’ve had people offer me $500 for it after one playing. I’ve been looking all over the net for some info on F120’s but have found very little. It would be nice to know when they were manufactured. Is see your post was from three years ago. I hope you kept your F120.
Mike
I learned on a Suzuki Cutaway Classical. It sounds as good as any I ever played if not better. I have been collecting Vintage Suzuki guitars now for several years. If it is a Nagoya Suzuki, it is a safe bet. Kiso Suzuki’s are probably very similar in quality but that is not what I started collecting. I love these old suzuki’s. You will pay thousands for similar sound and playability. Cherish the ones you can get your hands on.

Hi all, i picked up the suzuki 12 string sf312. Does anyone know the value. I like it but I rather sell it for a 12 string taylor.
i bought a suzuki f-250 12 about a year ago and woulndt trade it for a new car! just picked up an f-120 12 today, needs strings and a nice waxing but if it sounds half as good as the 250 it was worth it. got it at a flea market for $100.00
I don’t know if this is still active, but I just found this blog… I own a Suzuki Three’s F120 12-string which I bought new in 1983 (I think). I have had similar experiences with friends who play as well – they pick it up, start playing, and don’t want to put it down. My model has a pickup inside, but I think the last time I plugged in was in the 80’s (major feedback issues, plus it sounds better all by itself).
I love this guitar and just recently polished it with some Music Nomad cleaning and polishing products, changed the strings, and oiled the fret bar. It looks and sounds as new as the day I bought it. I couldn’t be more pleased (now “I” can’t seem to want to put it down).
I don’t know much about the history of this fine instrument, but I know it is a pleasure to use and enjoy each time I pick it up.
P.S. – I even still have the original plastic coating on the pickup guard (why remove it, right!)

Thanks.

This popular thread has been given its own page : Suzuki Supersounds Brazen picker profesional (L/h,Strat copy)
Hello from Finland. My school mate from the late 70’s give me his Suzuki Super Sounds Brazen Picker to be refretted and electrics serviced. It’s a really rare also here in Finland. This one is purchased in the 70’s I guess. It’s a really good quality excluding the hardware which is quite poor stuff. The neck is a real beauty, flamed maple and a very accurate Fender strat shape. Body is good quality and lets say… honey burst. Btw, I saw yesterday an other one also here in Finland with a neck of birds eye maple, more traditional sunburst body and "the blaster preamp-booster (9v) which is in place of the jackplate" (this is copy-pasted from the Harmony Central). I think this was "only a cheap copy" in it’s ages but it’ll be collectable Japanese lawsuit-like some day. I dont know where or when it is manufactured but I try to find more info. Cheers, Simo
G’day from oz. I bought one of these last weekend for A$50 including a hard case at a garage sale down the road.
I’ve died and ended up in heaven.
It’s been modified with 2 original fender pickups and a top of the range Humbucker. Also a 5 way switch to go with the 2 tones and 1 volume.
Colour Black.
It’s had a good life but is still roaring away despite some rust on the 2 fender pickups.
Sounds awesome.
There you go.

when i was 18 in 1979 i had got a white suzuki strat copy super sound i ve got some pictures of it , it was my first guitar ,in 1979 i paid 800f ( 125 euro ) it was a very good strat it was manufactured in japan

I have one Suzuki Super Sounds Brazen Picker Professional for sale. It is mid seventies Natural colour. All original, but has now Abigail Ybarra’s hand wound pickups! And a switch to alter pickup polarity. I have the original pickups, but they are like shit. If you are interested, please contact. Greetings, Mika
I have the same guitar, but unfortunatelly I changed the pickups too. I want to put the original ones back, but I did not take note of the color code. Which goes where? bridge, neck
One has a red wire, other a black wire and another a blue one. Any idea? Thanks a lot

Hello There,
I bought a "Suzuki Super Sounds Brazen Picker Proffessional" Strat copy in early 1981, out of the Trading Post for about $150. It is an excellent sounding guitar all round, and is nice and warm to hear and hold. The only problem is I managed to lose track of the original Whammy arm.
Does anyone know of where, and what size I might be able to get to get a new Whammy, I believe it could be a size 6mm screw?
Thanks Guys and Gals
j’en possede une.
it’s a very good guitar.I put one seymour ducan speaker on but the original speakers are more power .
I love it.
Hello from Ozztralia,I’m looking for any info on this guitar i bought in a hock shop for $60 U.S.It’s the best strat i have ever played or as good as my brothers pre L.I purchased it because i had a Suzuki aucoustic in 1975. It was a copy of a d3 Martin, and was a wonderfull guitar(until it was crushed by a couple of wrestling friends)I’ve had it set up right handed and put in a 5 position switch(originaly 3)Any info would be appreciated as i can’t find anything.Cheers and G’day from Downunder.Shane.
I bought a pristine example for A$800 in 2002 and by the sounds of it got ripped off! Such is life.
I was hoping to sell it for say $500 but obviously if you can get one for less than $100 I might as well keep it.
It is a great looking guitar and totally original in natural colour.
Purchased this guitar approx 15 years ago. It’s been played a lot coz I love it. Trouble is I know nothing about it. Would anyone be able to shed some light on its approximate age and estimated value?
I have acquired a 9651 as a birthday gift from my sister in law. She bought it new in Germany in 1975. I’m trying to find out more about it, but that answers the date of manufacture question. It’s a great instrument.
My husband bought me a Kiso Suzuki model 9651 for Christmas, 1971. It’s still playing beautifully.
What do you know about a Suzuki No. 5 with an unusual pickgaurd shape and a metal tailpiece?
So, I’ve got a Suzuki Violin Company acoustic guitar passed down to me, and I’ve been told it’s worth quite a bit. Nobody knows any stories with it, but it’s in superb condition, and the ID number on the inside of the body is 9, I’m just wondering if anyone has any clue about these guitars. Thanks!
A number of years ago I bought a Suzuki F70 model #700321 at a second hand music shop. I am looking for info on it regarding price, quality, etc. Please help!

: The guitar I have is perfect for me, so I’m not willing to sell. I would just like to know more about it and the company that manufactured it. It is a lovely mohgony wood, with a light oak vanire front..the D details the Dove pick protector on the front. It also has large mother-of-pearl inlays along the entire lenth of the neck. It is a sm acoustic…but then again I’m very petite. It also has its original ivory bridges. Which someone tried to tell me needed to be replaced NOT!…I received this guitar as a gift for graduating high school…many moons ago. I use medium steel and brass strings which really gives it that classical acoustic sound. I recently played a duet with a man who had a very heavy, combersome and expensive Fender (It sounded aweful!!!)…He bartered for half an hour to buy it off me. Obviously I didn’t sell but it made me wonder about the worth. It seems everyone I know is trying to get one or pay a high price for mine. (Still not selling)….let me know if you have any resources for me and the year it was made could help…..Thanks
Hello Barbara,
I believe I have the same guitar as yourself and it is a 1976 vintage! Great sound.
Cheers

Barbara,

I have the same model WK-65D, I know very little about the guitars value other than what im ready here. Im assuming that there were manufactured prior to the big law suits from Gibson and Fender. Obviously the guitar is a direct ripoff of the Gibson dove with the Mother of pearl Trapezoid inlays and dove like pattern on the scatch guard but where else can I find info on the guitar that may lead to more vital information about its value. Im not selling, just want to know what i should insure it for ?
Thank guys
Hello I am trying to learn more about a guitar I was given for father’s day from my step sons they picked it up in a second hand store for $70 Canadian it had a small crack in the nut so I had it replaced by a local luthier who is well known he tried like hell to buy it from me and said it was rare and that it was a copy of a Gibson hummingbird I refuse to sell it because of sentimental value and the sound is amazing. I would like to learn more about the guitar and a possible value as I am looking for information on the value so I can register it with my home insurance, any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated as this is the only site that I have found with any related information.

I have a Wt-150 too. I bought it new in 1979 in Milan, Italy. It sounds great but I have no info whatsoever.. Ciao
Like Joe Red, I have a wt-150 12 string that I bought in 1979 in Vicenza, Italy. THe headstock says Grand-Suzuki and the label inside also says Grand-Suzuki, but in smaller print below, on the same label, says Kiso Suzuki. This guitar has been around the world with me…….and how it has ended up in my studio, still playing great after all these years, I’ll never know.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Does anybody know anything about this model?

They are very worth full so keep in mind.
Nathan and Suzanne. Refer my post below re J Watson guitar. The following is a reply that I sent to someone who responded re my Watson query. It should give you some clues.
Yes I found out a lot about the Watson guitar, but very little definitive information about the Watson so called âbrandâ. Mine was made by Suzuki Kiso in Japan in 1973 and except for a couple of very minor details is a very good copy of the Gibson Dove, as was played by Elvis Presley. I have been able to find 4 Gibson variants that Suzuki copied, the Dove and Hummingbird â identical guitars except for the pick guard (one has a dove on it, the other has a hummingbird), in black and cherry sunburst.
Suzuki made very high quality guitar copies between about 1960 (perhaps earlier) and 1975, and typical of the Japanese copy mentality of the time they were meticulous, so for mine it is almost certain that all of the Gibson specs were followed â probably why it looks and sounds so good. During that period there was a highly publicized court case about copies of Gibson guitars, which Gibson won but Suzuki was not one of the âcopiersâ that was in court. I tracked a genuine 1969 Gibson Dove for sale on ebay just before Christmas and it sold for around US$9500 in the US. I also tracked another copy Dove guitar circa 1975, for sale on ebay that was branded as a Suzuki Kiso, and was identical to mine. It sold for £650 in the UK. My guitar teacher uses a couple of very expensive guitars and he says that the tone of mine is better than both of his.
I have attached three photos â the first on the left is a genuine Gibson Hummingbird, the second is a Suzuki copy of the same Guitar made in 1975, and the third is mine. The only difference with the hummingbird is shape of the string tensioner knobs. There is an additional difference with the Dove (as was requested by Elvis I understand) which is an additional mother of pearl inlay of two small doves, one on each side of the bridge. Which one did your guitar look like?
Regards the âbrandâ Watson, I was told by a Dutch guitar collector that it was named for Johnnie âGuitarâ Watson (as in the J Watson & Co) who was supposedly a very famous (at least in Japan) black American blues guitar player, who died of a heart attack on stage in Japan, in the mid sixties but I have not been able to verify that.
Hope this helps.

Terry

Hello Nathan, I know even less about the Suzuki Dove than you. You say it’s an exact copy of a Gibson Dove, so is it all solid wood than? Can you tell me what woods are used for the front, the sides and the back? Does it have the same bracing as the Gibson Dove too? How much did you pay for yours?
Many thanks,
Suzanne
I have never read so much drivel. The Suzuki Dove was made of cheap 3 ply, with a shocking fretboard, and sounded like wet cardboard. The only way one of these could be considered good, would be if you owned one, you couldn’t play guitar, and smoked a lot of dope. Oh, also I saw Johnny Guitar Watson performing in 1995, he seemed to be very alive at the time.
Hello, Is there any1 out there who knows anything about this beautiful guitar of mine??? Value etc…. Its an exact replica of the Gibson model. But has an adjustible bridge. Beautiful sunburst colour and best tone ever. im sure sum1 must know bout it. Please any info at all would help. 🙂 Thanks
hello,
i stumbled across this forum and am trying to find some – any info! on the acoustic i just bought on ebay.
it is a Sukuki Kiso Violin W-65D model: 00001.
it is a very interesting one! i havent seen ANY exactly like this on the net. from what ive picked out, it appears to feauture most of the same materials and most of the same components as the other dove copies, but mine does not have the 2 dove inlays on either side of the bridge. double or triple binding around the body i believe. the pickguard is in excellent condition, 95% all there id say, only some of the brown background has faded in small parts. the headstock only reads ‘suzuki & co. est 1951’. and the bridge appears to be plastic, not wood (no grain showing). it has the same suzuki logo and info inside the soundhole – model 00001!
it sounds great. strong sound. v neck. addictive to play. action is quite high though (approx 4mm at 12th fret), and wont lower any more with the adjustable bridge screws. all round, its in excellent condition for its age, and looks like it was babied and ungiged. only a couple marks on th entire thing. no fret wear either.
ive enquired about it from the seller, but they didnt seem to know anything either. i thought id ask her too. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Hallo,
i’ve just read your commet about the Suzuki Gibson-Dove copy. I do own one since a few days (at least) and mine has exact the same “dove”-inlayse at the bride, that you mentioned the original “Elivis”-dove has had… you said also, that you do have some pics, showing the original Hummi, a suzuki-copy and your guitar… I would love to see those pice, to compare them to my guitar.
Do you know anything about today’s value?
please e-mail me to: [email protected]

I got one of those! Bought it in 1982 in Germany for about 300 DM. It’s well made with a lovely loud clear pitch. Though it doesn’t provide the volume you get with some of the older ones. Depends what you’re looking for. I used my Suzuki to play it in a mandolin orchestra for several years and it was the perfect choice.
I haven’t touched it for the last 25 years though. Would like to sell it now, that’s how I came across your add.
Sorry can’t help with the material.

: I have a J. Watson and Co. acoustic guitar that I am trying to learn the âprovenanceâ or history of and hope someone may know something about it, or point me in the direction of someone who does. Greetings everyone;
I am on a mission to find my long lost (stolen) J.Watson & Company guitar. I was in the Houston area about 10 years ago or so, and had just unloaded the van, went inside w/equipment, came back out and the guitar w/case was gone.
This one was special. Purchased in Taiwan in ’76, it has a split/tri rosewood back with inlayed mother of pearl, with mother of pearl inlays all throughout the guitar. What makes this one easy to find, is that the neck had been broken by our lead singer between the tuning keys. It had been repaired, but could still be noticed if looking.
Please help me find this sentimental piece of the past.
Thanks, James.

: Hi
: I have a J. Watson and Co. acoustic guitar also. Purchased second hand in 1990 for about $200. after playing all the guiitars in the place for a few hours I chose the watson. The guy in the store just said "good choice".
They look to me to be similar to the Gibson "dove". The gibson even had an adjustable bridge for a while. It could have been what they call a "lawsuit" model. One that they stopped making under threat of legal action.

I purchased a J Watson WD150TB in Newtown (Sydney) in 1982 for $125. It’s serial no. is 10938 and is still in great condition. Mine is a lovely sunburst orange-brown colour. I would also like to know more about the background to these guitars and other owners.
Hi I’m from Belgium and I got a J. Watson & Co. guitar w300.
So I guess its a different guitar then the wd150d.
It’s a semi accoustic version.
I have had a J Watson & Co 12 string model WD150 CW/12, have had it for about 30 years. It is red with pearl inlays and a white dove and roses on the scratch plate. Serial no is a bit hard to read but most likely 01205. Was wondering what it was worth?

Hi there!
You are right, they sound great. Mine too is a WD 150 BK s/n 10723. Would like to know a bit about the company. I was told that they were to be the answer in looks to the Martins. As far as it goes for sound, she is the most beautiful and mellow sounding guitar I had the pleasure to listen to. Maybe it’s the age. Anyone knows anything more, talk to us.

Hi Everyone
I too just came into posession of a J.Watson& Co guitar. It looks like it has hardly been played ,has the pearl inlay on the head and frets and the scratch plate is still very shiny like the rest of the guitar and has a picture of a white dove surrounded by red flowers and green leaves on it but on the inside label it says:
J.Watson & Co.
The best quality guitar
model no. WD 150 BK
then on the bottom of the label : 10967
and on the right hand bottom: japan
The hardcase is also in as new condition and I feel this guitar was bought 25
or so years ago, too hard to learn to play , put away in the cupboard and has just resurfaced in a spring clean.
It has a very loud crisp clear tone even with the old strings on it but the action is a little high for my liking and needs to be reset.
It only has one strap button like the old fashioned accoustic guitars.
There is no SUZUKI to be seen anywhere on the guitar.
I am as much in the dark about this guitar as every one on this site.

Hi
I purchased my WD150 bk new in 1972, the cost then was $700 so at that stage it was an expensive guitar. When I purchased mine the shop had 2, the other one was purchased by Dave Faulkner from Hoodoo Gurus, It appeared in a video mid 80’s, can’t remember the song!
I too am lucky enough to own one but i know nothing of its history other than it was given to my mother by one of the band members of the australian band "mental as anything" Since then its bridge snapped off and i had repaired it twice only to have the same thing happen twice so i decided to put a tail piece on aswell and my goodness does it sound bright! Its one of the best acoustics ive ever played.
Ive also put a pickup system in and im going to put a sunrise pickup and mixer in in the near future.
Is there anywhere i can find out info about j watson co history?
regards,
jono

Hi Terry,
I purchased my J Watson & Co in the late 70’s and have also wondered about its history. I still use
it as a practice guitar and have enjoyed may years of playing with it. Other than the info you have I’ve been unable to find out anymore. The idea it came from Suzuki in Japan was mentioned to me and could be on the cards as it looks like there were quite a few sold in Aussie.

: : : : Hi
: : : : I have a J. Watson and Co. acoustic guitar that I am trying to learn the “provenance” or history of and hope someone may know something about it, or point me in the direction of someone who does. It looks identical to a Kiso Suzuki acoustic made around 1973 with great pearl inlay on the head and on the fret-board. The protective plate on the top has definite "flower-power connotations. The inside label says

: Hi Terry,
: I purchased my J Watson & Co in the late 70’s and have also wondered about its history. I still use
: it as a practice guitar and have enjoyed may years of playing with it. Other than the info you have I’ve been unable to find out anymore. The idea it came from Suzuki in Japan was mentioned to me and could be on the cards as it looks like there were quite a few sold in Aussie.

I also have just got a J. Watson & Co. guitar WD155 through a garage sale. I love this guitar and it sounds great. I also would like to know a bit of history on it.
I too own a J.watson & co- semi acoustic that I have owned,played, loved & recorded with since the early/mid 80’s
I have never seen another modle like it so can anyone give me some history details & perhaps rough value?
It is a ‘copy’ in shape & style to the Gibson Es-335 TD with two pick ups& mine is an all Black finish. I cant find a serial number on it but it does have a made in Japan sticker on the back of the head.
As I said , I would really appreciate any information on this great guitar

i have just purchased a J Watson W300 from te ’70s, hope to get it on thursday, keep you posted
I’ve got a black Watson 12 string, purchased new in 1980 Sydney Australia, it was my 21st birthday gift. I suspect they were a fairly common mid range guitar back then and it plays and sounds wonderful, I’ve played it most days for 40 years and I’m still playing it. The zero fret is worn away and the bird is half gone from a life time of use but apart from that it still sounds amazing. I always suspected it as a law suit era Japanese made Humingbird copy and I wouldn’t swap it for all the tea in China as they say..
No idea what they’re worth and no intention or desire to find out, it’s priceless as far as I’m concerned; I’ve got USA strats, tele’s, a 93 Les Paul standard and a probably too many others and I’m still adding but the Watson will be the one they bury me with, it’s a special guitar..
I got one bourght in 1968 still one of the best guitar I have and I have mor than 30.
My J Watson and Co WD150DBR is serial no 90943. I bought it in Toowoomba, Queensland in 1979 and I’ve had it ever since. It’s a Japanese made Suzuki copy of the Gibson Black Dove. 2 years ago I had the bridge replaced and lowered and put a piezo pickup in it. It plays well acoustic all and amplified. Best with bronze Daddario round wounds.
According to this clip, in 1963 Gibson had too many Doves and not enough Hummingbirds in stock so they started putting Hummingbird pickguards (and bridges?) on Dove guitars. They’re known to collectors as Hummingdoves.
Maybe that’s what this (and my) guitar is. A copy of a cross between a Dove and a Hummingbird?
That would explain the Dove pickguard and the Hummingbird bridge?
I have a J.watson & Co W150D from 1951
Does someone knows how much it is woth?
I’ve got one exactly the same as the one in the picture.
I bought it at Cash Converters about 15 years ago for (I think) $120.
It sounded good and played great when I bought it.
Since then, I’ve put good machine heads on it, a handmade brass bridge and bone nut and
brass bridge pins and it is without doubt one of the best acoustics I have ever played. It sounds huge.
My name is j watson so I bought this guitar just for the name.have had it many years serial #01202.can post pictures of it if anyone interested
I have a Watson the same as shown in the picture posted in 2015 by Bill C.
I forgot exactly when I purchased mine, it was somewhere between 1978 and 1980, hence my interest in the manufacturer and dating the instrument.
It has been through all sorts of action and still sounds reasonably ok. I am attached to it and would never sell it.
I recall I paid about $150 for it and I thought that it was a middle-of-the-road guitar in terms of quality and price.
Nevertheless, it has stood the test of time.
Hi poppi.i too have the same guitar and it sounds fantastic. You are the only other person I have heard who has the same model. Would love to hear how old it is.i was told that maybe the serial no was the date it was made. Mine is 10966! Cheers Blue
I also have one Model WD150 CW – Serial No 10982
Has the white dove scratch plate
Can I post pics in here?
Bill C
I also have a Watson with the white dove scratch plate . Its stamped model No WD150TB serial No 00415 made in Japan .
I bought it about 1985- 1987 from a shop in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia whilst working on the Bell Bay wheel casting plant.
The tone is very very nice as commented on by my musical friends.
Mine has an adjustable bridge (can send photo) with adjusting screws at each end of the bridge. So you can raise the plastic bridge piece by turning screws clockwise and change the action ( fret clearance ) by doing this.
I want to fit an under the bridge pickup but am not sure if drilling the hole (through the steel adjustable bridge) for the pickup wire will mess the whole thing up.
Anyone done this before on this type of adjustable bridge?
Ross
Hi guys I also have a Watson WD 150 D exactly the same as the one in the hoodoo gooroos video come any time
I have had this magic sounding guitar since 1992 and bought it second hand from a guy who had never played it was a gift from his wife in 1972
It still sounds sweet and has played some great music
To me it’s worth thousands as I have had this guitar a long time and would love to pick up a 12 string Watson
Just post links to the pictures and I’ll see if I can make them show up in your post after you’ve done that.
Jason – webmaster.
Here’s the picture:
That’s a nice looking pick guard.
I have a J.Watson G70, it sounds fantastic and is a collectors item as I have understood. I saw another J.Watson for sale for 2000 Dollars on Ebay, so keep your J.Watson guitars and do not sell them cheap 🙂
I hv a 12 key guitar has no strings pearl inlay
Handsome guitar not lightweight. Made in japan.
Etc.has one key missing and the top bridge quite tidy condition.
Do they have a value if so could you tell me how much. As is that is.
I am considering selling my J Watson & co est 1951 6 string acoustic guitar . Model WD 155 It is in excelllent condition . Pearl inlay etc Does anyone know what it might be worth?
The Dave Faulkner story is true, as it was the same music store I bought the other from. Dave got the black and I got the cherry. It appeared in the music video ‘Come Anytime’ and sounds awesome. My cherry Watson is in mint condition and i’m looking for a good home that appreciates quality and classic 80’s history.
Cheers
Hi,
do you still have the Watson? if so what is your location?
Kim
I have a J Watson & co WD1500/12 #00409 12 string bought new in 1976 in Sydney. I dont know any more than what has been listed, ie Gibson copy & would definitely agree about the tonal quality, definitely superior to both my ( new) Taylor & Maton.
Would also love to know more about tbem
Cheers

Hello there!
I was fascinated by the previous comments on J. Watson model WD 150D. The label on my guitar says:
– J. Watson & Co
– Est. 1951
– Model No G 500
This is obviously a less elaborate model than the WD150D. It does not have pearly inlay on the fretboard. But is has this wondefull sound. I bought it in the late seventies or early eighties. Since then I have aquried other more expensive guitars. But I still love my Watson. That is why I googled it in order to find out more.
I will be happy to know more about the history of Watson guitars, if anybody knows.

Hi
Suzuki were very good at making copies of well known guitars, Gibsons especially. Not only were they good copies they were good quality guitars. Is your guitar a copy of a Gibson – I would look for the Dove and Hummingbird. If it is it doesn’t mean that it is valuable. A 1975 Suzuki copy of a Gibson Hummingbird in Cherry Sunburst colour ( I think they made them both in Cherry Sunburst and Black sold recently on eBay for about US$1200. A genuine 1969 Gibson Dove recently sold on eBay for around US$9000 and Gibson has just released a Gibson Dove "Elvis Presley" replica – yes Elvis did play one, for around US$4000.
I have a 1973 Suzuki 150D copy of a black Dove which is in near perfect condition and looks very much like the Elvis replica. It looks and plays brilliantly (according to my guitar teacher)but would only fetch about US$200 here in Australia. Hope this gives you some insight.

: is it worth anything by chance? i seen it by the side of the road. someone wants to throw it away
Where are you? Suzuki made a number of different "brands" or "models" of guitar in the 70’s of which the Kiso is one. I have a guitar that is almost identical to the Kiso and guitar teachers and "classical" used guitar shops tell me that it is a high quality guitar, with a very good sound. Can you post a photograph of it. If it is not badly damaged it may be worth getting fixed.

Terry
