Re: buying a electro/acoutic guitar

I just saw three nylon string guitars with electrics. These were thin semi hollow bodys with spacing on the strings matching a classical neck. Built to play electric only, as there was not enough body to resonate well. didn't notice the make or the price. E mail me and I will get details if you are interested!

my strat buzzes a lot

on the lower strings if i put my finger down i like the third fret, it buzzes. the buzzing only starts after a while. so i play and then a second later the string buzzes. how can i stop this. i guess strats are supposed to be twangy though, right? thanks

Re: my strat buzzes a lot

Hmm.Try raising the action by adjusting the saddle height. If the action is too high, ask your guitar tech for 1.Neck setup or 2.Grind and polish.Buzzing can be a slight problem with older Strats(7 inch radius neck). If this the case, then try adjusting the string height to follow the curve of the neck.

My Epiphone Out of tune.

Hi guy's.
I own a Epiphone Les Paul Standard. When I put it in the bag, and take it out on the next day, my 3rd string is a little bit out of tune. Also sometimes when I play, after playing for 5-10 min, i check the tune on my Boss GT-3 and it shows that the 3rd string is a little bit off, but if I wouldn't use that tunner, I wouldn't even hear the difference, because it's very slight.

So......what is going on with my guitar? :-)
Please help.
Thanks.

Re: My Epiphone Out of tune.

Well, if you're using a gig bag you're lucky any of the strings are in tune, it's too easy to bump the machine heads through a soft case like that.

It's normal for a string to go out of tune eventually...especially if you do a lot of bending...does it stay in once you retune it?

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard also. I agree with the comments on the bag. I would also get a set of good replacement tuners. My Epi was losing tune on exactly the same string, so fate, and GOD sent me to help you out. I got a set of GOTOH vintage tuners which look identical to what came on the guitar, and hold their tune with 12-54's, which these days are considered fairly big strings. Also, get yourself some replacement pickups. The difference in sound will amaze you. I got a Gibson 500T for the bridge with 496R for the neck. These are very hot. Breeze through the guitar pickup comments on www.harmony-central.com for a lot of good information. Your tastes might run towards something else.

What does this mean???

My Tabulature does not show what this means. do you thanks. 8v------------------------

Re: What does this mean???

well i know that in piano if it is above the staff it means play an octave up and if it is below the staff play it an octave down. so for a guitar i bet it means to use a harmonic to get a screaming wail. hope this helped

What is a RECTIFIER???

Ok what the hell is a rectifier and what does it do?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Re: What is a RECTIFIER???

I assume you are talking about the Mesa Boogie amp??? One of their models is a triple rectifier, there is a double rectifier also. It is a VERY expensive amp(s) but the tone is awesome.

Re: What is a RECTIFIER???

All valve amplifiers have rectifiers. They're a circuit for converting voltages from the power valves before feeding them to the speakers. Rectifiers can be either valve-based or solid state, with good valve rectifiers providing a nice and distinctive "sag" or slight compression in the initial sound og the note played. The Mesa amps are called "dual" and "triple" rectifiers, because they have, respectively, two and three rectifier stages.

Re: What is a RECTIFIER???

Gar's comments were excellent. A rectifier ia an electronic circuit which converts AC voltage to DC voltage. Most electric or electronic devices (except for maybe electric motors) actually run on DC voltages, and in all of these devices, some sort of rectifier is needed to make the conversion. Of course prior to the transistor age - these were tube-based circuits.
Good Luck!

Duncans for led zeppelin

I have a mexican strat that i think is wonderful. I don't see how americans could be that much better. i was thinking of changing the original mexican pickups for some better pickups. i looked at emg but i don't want an active pickups. so then i looked at Duncan and thought of getting three humbucking pickups. my question is which of the duncan pickups for a strat can get me a heavy led zeppelin sound. THanks a lot

I need some advice!!!!!!!

I've recently bought a Gibson ES150 which has had a bad respray in the past. I'm thinking of getting the paint stripped off and a new coat put on, but will this change the tone of the guitar very much?

Re: I need some advice!!!!!!!

is it a solid body? if it is a hollow body I dont know, but in a solid body it makes it sound a bit sharper, not too much. I've done it with my guitar, and worked well. But keep on searching for more answers...
Anyway, if you dont like the results, a luthier can restore the guitar... doesnt seem to be that problematic.

Just a little unclear about artificial harmonics....

I am not sure how the method (about playing a note with your plectrum in an angle so as your thumb hits the string also) can work. All I can get is two of the same notes played. Im sure I am doing it wrong, if anyone has any other tips or anything.
PS. What sound is made with A.Harmonics

Re: Just a little unclear about artificial harmonics....

You have to change where you hold your picking hand...up and down the string to find the different nodes to make a pinch harmonic.

You can also make artificial harmonics by picking the string with your thumb whilst simultaneously using your fingetip to lightly touch the string 12 frets above where it's being fretted.

the best means i found is trying it over and over till it sound good... with time you will find the technic by yourself... it's what i do and i consider im god right now :)

replacing pickups

i was just wondering is it hard to replace pickups on a mexican strat. i know nothing about it at all.

Re: replacing pickups

yo jorge:

it's not a complicated job as long as you have some soldering chops. these pickups are mounted directly on the pickguard (loosen completely or remove strings). remove the pickguard screws, carefully lift the pickguard - holding it near the guitar's body near where the jack is (here it's connected to the hot wire of the jack and the ground wire - try not to pull 'em out!) gently turn it over and you'll see the pickups, wiring, etc. You'll notice that each pickup is connected to a lug on the pickup switch and to the instruments "ground" (typically via the back of the volume pot). Carefully remove the wires for one pickup, replace it with the new pickup (see mfr's instructions for which wire goes to switch, etc.) If you go one-at-a-time wire-for-wire things should go smoothly. You may want to keep the three "ground" wires together for a one-group solder job to a ground point as a last soldering step.
I've had quite remarkable success with DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Strat pickups (heavy blues virtual vintage is my favorite model) I've put these in all my Strats!!
Good Luck.

Re: replacing pickups

I'm wonder the same thing sort of, My guitar is equipped with all stock active pickups 2 single coils and 1 humbucker, I want to replace the humbucker with a dimarzio super distortion, is this possible? cause it's a passive pickup I believe.

Tuning problems

I recently bought a 77 Guild S300-D that is all original. The only problem with this lost classic is that it tends to go out of tune very frequently. Some strings make that 'ping' sound during tuning so I guess the nut is part of the problem. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what to do about it. Im not too worried about decreasing its value so Ive been thinking about replacing the nut, adding locking tuners, or both. Please email me with any insights or suggestions. Thanks.

I want my Squire to sound like a Dime3...

I bought a Fender Squire a long time ago (it was the best I could afford). I am a bit tired of the clean gentle tones it produces and would like to give it a more powerful sound. Ideally I would like a guitar that sounds like Dime3 used by Dimebag Darell (Pantera) or the Hamer uesd by G. Tipton (Priest), however, I would like to keep the Fender shape.
Any ideas?

Re: I want my Squire to sound like a Dime3...

Yeah, replace the pickups with high quality humbuckers switch to a higher guage string, and buy a very powerful all-tube amp. If you don't do these, it's just not gonna happen. The Squier's just aren't made to do that. Or you can cough up the cash for a Dimebag guitar. That's about the best you can do.

Re: I want my Squire to sound like a Dime3...

Why do you want to do that?Squires are a good guitar in their own right, soon the charictaristic Squire sound will be much more sought after than the Fender tone.Do you realize just how many bands actually use Squire rather than Fender because they prefere them?

Re: Dimebag Darell's sound!!!!!!!!!! Read this........

this can very simpely done! I have dime bags sound! Mesa boogie is the shit! get a triple rectifier and you will never buy another amp!.....if you cant afford one this is how you start to build the Pantera tone! goes like this...take out the shitty pickups you have and this is the most important thing you can do to get the TONE!!!! you buy a BILL LAWRENCE L-500XL bridge pickup and a SEMORE DUNCAN 59 for your neck pickup this is the set up that he uses the larence pickup is unbeliveable!!! high out put with no noise bill makes the best pickups i have lawrence pick ups in around 5 of my guitars... i also have dimarzio X2N's that rock and some early 80's super distortions...they rock but dimarzios are very noisy...the larence in the brige position L500-XL look up bill lawrence on line some people are selling pickup that are fake L-500XL...beware better to buy direct from bill Lawrence!!! and semore 59 in the neck! then get a sick tube amp like a boogie triple rectifier or a Soldano... if you cant afford those get the pick ups and a Boss GT-6 and spend a few hours tweeking the song out of it the presets suck!! or check out a rocktron voodoo valve last but not least get a hush noise reduction system and if you set it al up right you too.. can have dime's sound! IF you save up for a boogie amp you will have it forever!!!!! if you need more info on sond equipment i can help just email me at [email protected] I have had just about everything made for guitarist today!!! Good luck!!!

Re: I want my Squire to sound like a Dime3...

i bought your momma for one hour last month,.
although i was tryin to get it on with heidi klum,
your mom was all i could afford.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

listen up

change the pick guard so that two humbuckers can fit it and place seymour duncen pickups on it. u know like the ones dime uses

I think that Metallica has the rigth to protect their music. If you are in a car accident and get injured, a lawyer will get 40% of the settlement for just writting a couple of letters. While you did all the suffering. Is that fair.? Metallica makes their money from their music. I think to 300,000 fans are just cheap and they got what they deserv.

Floyd Rose and alternate tunings

Hey everyone. I'm about ready to smash my guitar. I have a Kramer with a Floyd Rose on it, and whenever I try to take it to an alternate tuning (most recently, D) something gets screwed up and it won't stay in tune, I can't even tune it back to E . . . last time, I had to take it in and get it worked on. Why doesn't Floyd Rose like alternate tunings? And is there anything I can do to make my guitar stay in the tuning I want it in?
