Re: McPherson Guitar

: : You have to order them direct from Matt McPherson at www.mcphersonguitars.com or (680)366-1407. Standard wood combinations of redwood/rosewood, cedar/rosewood, or spruce/rosewood are $4,000, but having played one, they're worth every penny!

: When you can buy pretty much any Bourgeois for under $4K, no acoustic guitar is worth that much. I've played everything out there, except for some very small independant makers, and nothing compares to a Bourgeois. Small OM or Full Dreadnaught, Bourgeios puts them all to shame...

If you haven't played a McPherson, you're in for a BIG surprise! Check one out. You may change your mind.

Pickups

I consider to check out/buy a strat-style "Guitar Workshop" guitar. The owner doesn't know the maker of the pickups on the guitar. He says that singlecoil pickups have a logo with an "u".
Can anyone help ?

How do I fix my pickups?

The problem is that the pickups in my guitar have been submerged inside there cases due to a fall or some such incident. It is a very inexpenseive guitar and I will be upgrading soon (mabye a Schecter C-7 Diamond Series or something) but if it would be an easy fix I would like to keep it as a backup. Thanks for you're help and if you know about Schecter guitars tell me what you think of the C-7.

re: Schecter C-7

yeah, i have a friend that has a schecter c-7 - its a really nice blue, looks good, plays terable!
he swears the pick-ups dont play like he wants,
(knowing him, he wants some from ratm- tim manhony's!(- i think its mic check- song 5 - the 3:18 marking of time or so, for about 8 seconds, off the battle of los angleous cd... )its a feedback of his harmonic tap-off, and tim's pickups recive this mexican techno radio station (but in lower volume)- due to the extreme and perscise and persition of his pick's!-
yeah, not to know from playing the experience of the diamond personally, but knowing the sound it makes, its a keeper for a good price.

multi-effects vs. single-effects

I'm currently wanting to upgrade/better my sound: Ibanez Series X guitar, Peavey Chorus 212 amp, Art SGX-2000 multi-effects processor. I was thinking about buying the Roland VG-88 multi-effects processor ($999.00)...but..

After doing some reading online, alot of people say single-effects are better. I'm mainly after killer distortion, but also quality effects.

Would I be better off just buying a few single-effects (distortion, phasor, flanger) than purchase the (thousand dollar Roland VG-88?) Thanks, I'd appreciate any advice......also on what to buy.

Re: multi-effects vs. single-effects

Ever think about getting a better amp. It will make a world of difference.

Gibson SG Circa 1969????

Thank you for a great site,
I have some questions on my Gibson SG serial #527885.
I'm not sure of the date of manufacture, what the value is and where can
I take it for a nice tune-up.
It's been banging around for years but still wails!
Thanks again.
Be well

Re: 1970s Framus Acoustic

Hey thats a reel cool guitar you got, I had one around 1970 but I sold it to my cousin. I think he's still got it. The one I had was an archtop jass style guitar.
I wish I never sold it. It had great tone and played very well. However I don't know if their still being made.

*****I have a Framus brownburst 12 string arch back acoustic guitar--serial number almost iilegible, but maybe 5881 (or 5831, orsomething like that). Didn"t David Bowie play a 12 string on Hunky Dory, possibly a Framus? I'd like somehistory on my guitar or ones similar.

Effect?

Someone asked me this one:

I was wondering if someone could tell me how to do that picking effect where you pick the note a certain way and it goes a couple octaves higher. you can hear this effect in a lot of Steve Vai's playing. If you guys could send me some info on that that would be awesome.

Please leave your answers here...

Cheers

You have to damp the string with your palm near the point halfway between the fret and the bridge and pluck near that point and then take away the palm. This way the string fundamental is damped when you pluck although the string is free to vibrate so that the octave is played. When you undamp the string continues to vibrate in the octave mode.

looking for 4-12 guitar cab. blueprints

looking for 4-12 guitar cab. blueprints if anyone could tell me where to get them that would be great

Re: looking for 4-12 guitar cab. blueprints

For enough money, they are available everywhere, you just need to search the internet more. Otherwise, a 4X12 is basically four speakers stuck in a box. you could make the casing whatever shape or size you want. After that, all you need to know is how to wire it, which is pretty simple. It is best to use 3/4" plywood for the outer structure, and 1/2" for everything else.

quitar..... may bell

came across an old guitar and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a may bell. at least that is what is written on the neck.. would appreciate any information.
thanks.

Re: quitar..... may bell

I've seen a few of the very collectible May Bell banjos. Other than that, I don't know much about
the banjos and nothing about the guitars.
Sorry.

Re: quitar..... may bell

I just recently purchased an old May-Bell guitar. My understanding is that these were made by the Slingerland Company which is more known formerly for their banjos and more recently for their drums. My May-Bell is a slightly smaller guitar. It is a flattop with sunburst finish, white bindings and pickguard and a May-Bell decal on the headstock. It has a grewat tone and wonderful action. I believe it to date from sometime between the 1930s or 40s.

Re: quitar..... may bell

Tom,

Just bought an old beat up may bell. Compared to some of the pictures I've seen here and there on the net, I think it is a very bottom of the line model. Did you ever find out anything else about this guitar? Thanks, Chris.

Kay accoustic - what year?

I have recently acquired an old Kay acoustic guitar. It is obviously one of the lower end models, but it is in mint condition and quite playable. Looking inside the soundhole, you can see the following, stamped in black ink - "N-4" and below it "L 8843". Is N-4 the model? Any way of knowing the year of manufacture? The logo is silkscreened onto the headstock, and embossed on the pickguard. Any info most appreciated. Thanks.

Any way of knowing the year it was manufactured and it's current value? Any other information you could provide would be most appreciated.

Thanks.

learning scales and solos

I've been playing for about 2 years and I have mostly played rythem, not lead. how can i start to practice for lead. What type of information would be helpful

Re: learning scales and solos

I'am no teacher, but with 2 years of playing you probally have a pretty good foundation to start on, so if you don't already know your scales/modes start by learning them, and I also found it really benificial learning every note on the fretboard, and then probally like you learned to play rythym, after you have the 'basics' start playing... to music you like (I found it easier to play 'slower' blues to start), improvising, exploring, and a metronome is great to work up your speed... well thats my 2 cents, sorry I can't give you any 'secrets', and there is a wealth of info on the web to get started with.

Re: learning scales and solos

I dont know what kind of music do you like, but blues is great to begin cause it's easy to catch the structure and you can play it well w/the pentatonic scale, which is the easiest to learn at the beginning. Try learning it first and email me if you want.
Do it well, and build quality, then speed. Dont fatigue.

my grandmothers guitar

I have recently found my grandmothers guitar. I would like to know more about it, but cannot determine what make or model it is. The serial number on the back of the headstock is T57973 put on a metal plate. And it says Kluson Deluxe on the tuners. It's a solid body electric guitar, double cutaway, twin hum bucker, separte volume and tone controls for each pick-up, a master volume and a 3-way switch, trapeze type bridge. neckplate is two round bolts or plates...

Re: my grandmothers guitar

you should take a photograph of the guitar and post it in the web or email it to me.
