Re: Help !!!! Tascam PortaStudio 01

Sorry guys, it is a Tascam Ministudio 01

Re: Help !!!! Tascam PortaStudio 01

: Hi,
: I just bought one of these and I have no idea how it works. Does anyone know where I can get a manual? The Tascam site doesn't have any to download, I guess it it too old.
: I really would appreciate some help.

Well I think I know which one your talking about. I have the 8 track version of it and I found that if you download the 4 track version of the manual (found at tascam.com) you can learn the basics. It took me a while to figure it out too. I hope that this helps a little. If you like you can email me at [email protected]

Broken ZOOM 9000 LCD display - Need a Replacement

Howdy,
I have a ZOOM 9000 Advanced guitar effects processor which I bought back in 93 (great little unit by the way). Unfortunately someone stepped on it and smashed the LCD display. The unit still works but it is a bit too challengeing to program all the modes with no visual display (forget about using the tuning function,
no can do).

I thought it would be relatively easy to get a new LCD display for it but the Australian suppliers tell me there are no stocks here or in Japan (must be one sitting on a shelf somewhere hey ?). If I can get a replacement I know someone who can install it for me.

Does anyone know of someone with a ZOOM 9000 with a bad electronics board (or even a good one they don't want ? - obviosuly prepared to pay). I could use the display. The unit retailed for around $ 500.00 Australian so I could get one cheaper maybe. I haven't seen any advertised as they may have been a popular unit.

If anybody has any ideas or information it would be very much appreciated.

Email welcome at [email protected]

Thanks

power unit for effects pedals

Anybody know of a unit that powers up to, say, 6 pedals and isn't noisy or bulky or expensive? I just want it to make the pedals work without any hiss or buzzing.

Re: power unit for effects pedals

Not to brag, but I left a reveiw on the Boss NS-2 Noise Gate on Harmony Central's effects data base.Check out this box!

A GOOD AMP

can anyone suggest a good 2x12 valve combo for gigging.
i play fast punk (not all the new trendy stuff, but more like stiff little fingers etc)i only want 1 channel plenty of gain and a great crunchy sound. i have heard the soldano atomic is good (will 20 watts be loud enough to gig). i have a trademark 6o (tech 21) and its a great recording amp but i have to compete with a jcm 800 and 4x12 of our singer\guitarist, and it gets a bit lost on stage. any suggestions ?. cheers

Re: A GOOD AMP

hey man if you want to keep up with your other guitar player, and pass him get a dual rectifier 2x12 by mesa boogie. mesa makes one of the greatest amps ever. the clean sounds are ok, just add a stomp box effect or two and you are there. the dirty channel will blow that little marshall out of the water.

Re: A GOOD AMP

thanks dave, but i cant afford a messa, a friend of mine has a triple rectifier and it is awsome but totally out of my reach. cheers

Re: A GOOD AMP

since your budget conscious, try Laney. A Laney AOR Pro Tube Lead 100 into a 2x12 sealed cab is pretty much a one trick pony like a JCM800 but with more gain than the JCM800. the new VC and VH amps by Laney sound incredible but are probably out of your price range also. only thing is Laney uses PCB input jacks which don't fair well for a ton of stage use.
if not, try a Sovtek Mig 100 and use a good distortion unit for more gain.
either way, both are loud, cheap and can sound pretty good.

THANKS DARYL,FOR YOUR TIME IN REPLYING

Re: A GOOD AMP

Mesa Boogie DC5(?)I use these in the Studio.It has two channels;1)Super clean,bright.2)Ultra nasty,beefy crunch.The reverb ain't bad and has a 5 band graphic E.Q.
But I like CARVINS!
Good Luck

Re: A GOOD AMP

THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS EDDIE, I CANT AFFORD A MESSA, AND IVE NEVER ACTUALLY HEARD A CARVIN (I HAVE HEARD THEY ARE VERY GOOD) BUT IVE BEEN OFFERED A MARSHALL 100 WATT MASTER VOLUME HEAD, MID 70'S FOR £100. ITS TATTY BUT WORKING PERFECT, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS AMP. CHEERS FOR YOUR TIME. TOM

Re: A GOOD AMP

Hmm.To be honest,I was never really a "MARSHALL MAN". They're good for crunch but not so versitle. They tend to be too bright, not enough warmth. But I used a JCM 900
with a Boss OD-3 in an open jam...MURDER!The 70's amps tend to be a little more beefy. So for "CRUNCH TIME" I think it'll be a good investment.
Good Luck

Re: A GOOD AMP

I have a Fender Hotrod Deluxe 40w that's a 1 x 12" and I gig professionally with it often. I changed the speaker to a celestion vintage 30 and put in better preamp tubes (Philips and Tesla) so I get wonderful overdriven tones now as well as great clean sounds. It's also bloody loud. If the deluxe is this good then the 60w 2 x 12" Hotrod Deville should be worth checking out. They aren't that expensive compared to many tube amps and with the improvements I mentioned they kick ass. They are well built too.

Re: A GOOD AMP

man a sovtek mig 100 is a wikkid little valve head. u can pick up one for next to nothing. then try to pick up a 2nd hand laney quad, u will prolly come out spending very little. just chuck an o/d pedal in front.

can you add a whammy bar

I am new to this guitar thing can all guitars be outfitted with a whammy bar? I saw a picture taht looked like one off the guitar it looked like an alan wrech. Do you just place it in a slot to use and do all guitars have a whammy bar slot? Thank you

Re: can you add a whammy bar

Technically, yes. All electric guitars can have whammy's. However, you must have a tremolo bridge. If you have a fixed bridge it's impossible.

acuistic guitar amplification

what is the best method for amplfying an acuistic guitar. I not a picker and its not for any fancy leads but rather a singer songwriter fronting a band?

Re: acuistic guitar amplification

I'm not a singer but most of the guitarist/singers that I've worked with plug thier guitar into the same PA as rhe Mic's,

Re: acuistic guitar amplification

There are several pickups that can be permanently installed in a guitar and several that just slip into the soung hole. They work quite well and are easier than trying to mike the guitar.

Joshua accoustic guitars

Does anyone have information about Joshua accoustic guitars? I haven't been able to find much info on the net. Does anyone know where the company is from? do they have a catelog etc.????

Thanks

Re: Joshua accoustic guitars

: I too am looking for info on Joshua guitars I did have a website address once but it was never available. Reason I'm interested is I bought one, and it's a terrific guitar, but the manufacture seems to be a mystery. Heard they were based out of California, but don't know if they import or manufacture, or what. Haven't ever seen another one, although I have viewed a couple for sale on GuitarBase.
: Thanks

Setting intonation on a Floyd Rose license Tremolo.

Exactly, step by step, how is this done? I know how to to this operation on a Fender style bridge, but the o'l double locker is giving me some problems. I read something about using the same scale lenght, but I didn't understand. I'm used to using a tuner, not measuring.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Setting intonation on a Floyd Rose license Tremolo.

Your fucked man, take it to a dealer and have the guitar set-up. It will drive you nuts trying to fix it.

Setting up tremolo

I need information on how do I setup my tremolo bar. I am a beginner to the rock genre & I have a fender stratocaster. I would like to know how I setup the tremolo bar. Any information would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Gibson:

Need a little info on a Gibson Marudar(1953-1955)? Has anybody ever heard of it?

Re: Gibson:

Gibson made a "Marauder" but it was in the '70s I think, certainly not during the 50s. Check on www.harmonycentral.com

phaser

what does a phaser do? What is a good delay/reverb?

Re: phaser

You will actually have to hear them for yourself. I can't think of any songs that use much phasing. Maybe someone can direct you to a website with samples. Some good quality pedals you could look into would be....
Digitech/ DOD
ZOOM
Boss
Ibanez pedals
Try listening to "Lets go Crazy" by Prince. If I remember correctly he uses a phaser at the intro to the song ( a small solo) Yeah, he can play pretty well!
Also Iron Maiden uses some phase on "Number of the Beast" during the first verse.
Think of a phaser as more of a "whooshing sound", similar to a Flanger.

Re: phaser

I'll try to expain it.A phaser is a result of alternating voltages. This causes a delay in two simultanious sine waves. When the two are played together you'll hear the swooshing sound.Choruses, flangers and phasers are all forms of delays.
I like the Boss PS-2,EH Memory man,and Arion. The Boss DD3 is a good basic delay.
