hm this isnt exactly "Under $500", but its a lil over.. and it seems like it would be a great buy. i found the ad on the harmony central classifieds. you might wanna consider it. i would get it for myself, but i am not looking for a guitar. im perfectly happy w/ my alvarez-yairi:

Can't go wrong with the Martin deal, but I recently bought an Alvarez RD20 (I think that's the model, or maybe it was RS), which retails for $200 at MARS. Bought this one from a local guitar tech who set it up (he's famous around here for his setups), put a Fishman Matrix pickup in it and supplied a hardshell case all for $450. It's got a solid top, and plays and sounds comparable to a friend's Taylor, and cost about $800 less. Check out some Alvarez's, if the Martin's more than your budget can handle.

quite obviously the Washburn D10S - a solid spruce top (which means ages better than a Cedar top, so longer performance) I own a Martin D28, (one the best made acoustics) and I recently purchased a Washburn D10S, for a guitar to take to the beach, and to practice on, but this guitar has basicaly the same, if not better sound, easily the best guitar for under $500. I hope this helps you.

I recently saw the music video for Big Wreck's "Ladylike". In the video there are a couple of scenes with the lead singer playing a funky looking light bluey-greeny guitar. What kind of guitar is it?

Hi!!

I´m a guitar player from spain, and i´ve got a problem when i try to record guitar on my computer. When i put myself looking to the computer with the guitar on my hands, there is a big noise, which desappear when i turn to other side of my room, so, i cannot record my guitar on the PC, because that noise is recorded too. Could you help me??

I think i can help. It depends on what program you use. If youre just using the standard Sound Recorder that comes with Windows, nothing i know can help. There is a program called Cool Edit Pro which has a feature that you can use to delete the sound by selecting the noise on the waveform, and hitting DELETE on your keyboard. You can probably download a newer version than I have, which would be a good thing.

Hope it fixes your problem!!

You have to be at least 36 inches away from the monitor dude. The pc monitor gives off electricity and your guitar pick-ups ...well pick it up. Face away from the monitor and listen...the noise will dissipate. Try it.

Hola!! This is normal: this is the "larsen" sound!! When you are too close to your computer, there is a larsen... You have to be far from your PC...

Unwanted sound when muting

What could be wrong when i play an open string and mute it few seconds later, something still keeps ringing quite loud and for quite long until i palm mute all the strings (the sound doesnt stop when i try to mute each string individually). It's like the string kept ringing even after the muting. What could be wrong? Pickups? Strings?

If I've understood your problem properly then what it may very well be is the string behind the nut vibrating after the rest of the strings have been muted, often you'll find guitarists with a small piece of foam over the strings behind the nut...I do this and wrap it around the headstock and with a little piece of duct tape, tape it to the head and this works great. This basically happens with all kinds of guitars even those with floyd roses and locking nuts...try it and see if it works...just use a lite weight foam, nothing too heavy or bulky.

Hmm. Don't think that's the issue. The sound stops when i palm mute all the strings at the bridge and it occurs even if i keep the strings after the locking nut muted. I'm clueless :-o

Hmm.A tricky question.It sounds as though your left hand might be scraping the other strings.When muting the open string try rolling your palm onto the edge of your hand.It could be that you're letting the other strings "go" prematurly.
Are you using distortion? You could try turning down the dist. level.Too much dist. can produce unwanted harmonics and overtones.
Also,where are you muting the strings?If your left hand is too close to the rythym pickup,you'll get some harmonics.You might try muting closer to the bridge where the strings are tighter.

Ok here's the story. I've had this crappy acoustic guitar for 3 years and I'm still unable to play the damn thing (I'm 22 and my hands are smaller than a 6 year old's, no joke). Being the impatient person that I am, I decided that I either want to get rid of the cheap peice of crap and then get some sort of foreign, exotic instrument that not too many people around here typically hear (that way no one knows I can't play it, because they're not sure how its supposed to sound, unlike a guitar!). OR... I was thinking about manipulating my crappy acoustic guitar somehow. Do something to it.. with the ol' tool kit or something. What should I do? If I decide to play around and experiment with my guitar and making new sounds, do you know of any websites I could go to? For instance, what are the 'physics' of sound? How do I just 'create' a new instrument without ruining my guitar? If anyone has any ideas, thoughts, opinions.. or anything, please let me know! e-mail me at [email protected] I might not be able to find my way back to this discussion boards to check for reply's.. thank you

There are loads of acoustic brands for sale these days- but don't necessarily go for a good brand, get a solid guitar that you like. are you starting to play or have you been playing before? you can usually get something decent for about $100...

I picked up an old Zoom 505 in a package deal. It works about 5 mins then duds out. (By the way, their tech support don't respond to emails). I like some of the sounds and want something like it that's reliable. Any suggestions?

Don't bother with cheap zoom stuff. It's unreliable and you'll sound plasticky (in my opinion). You are better off saving for something abit better...you'll save money in the long run. Check secondhand stuff. You might get lucky.

Well, don`t have any multi-effectors yet, but can`t imagine they can be good and also that cheap. I think I just put some more money in it, and have some real good stuff. by the way, that id about second hand buying is also good, cause effectors don`t lose quality very quickly

Yea, pick up a digitech rp100 for 100 bucks..excellent and unbeatable, I think for the price (and versatility)..patches are very good in my non-professional opinion - I play mostly metal sounding stuff and blues.

DigiTech RP-100 NO DOUBT !! This amp modeler is the best buy for the money. When you do the math, you've got about 800 different sounds that can be produced by this little jewel.
