anyone own Kreator's "Coma Of Souls" cd?

i just recieved this cd in the mail yesterday, and i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to get a lead guitar tone like on the songs "world beyond", "when the sun burns red" and "coma of souls". it sounds to me like effect pedals of some sort, but which ones? and what settings could get me close?

EMG81 + passive pickup works?

May I know if I can mix an EMG81 with passive pickups? Any spacial configuaration needed? "H/S/EMG81"

Re: EMG81 + passive pickup works?

Hi,
I have an EMG in the neck and a passive DiMarzio X2N humbucker in the bridge. This works fine but you are unable to ground your passive pickups when installed. This causes a hum when using the pickup. It isn't bad with a humbucker but when using a passive single coil, it gets noisy. If you want to have two independent volumes than you can ground the pickup. You are unable to use the pickups at the same time though.

1959 Les Paul Standard found?

My friend claims that he's got a late 50's Les Paul. His father gave it to him years ago. If it really is an original (flame top) Les Paul 1959 how much would it be worth?

Re: 1959 Les Paul Standard found?

10 bucks

Re: 1959 Les Paul Standard found?

Well, have you seen it?
First off, is it all original? If not start shaving money off. If it doesn't have the original PU's take even more off. Does it have a lot of flame in the finish? The more flame, the more $ it's worth.
Your friend's guitar is worth anywhere from $10K to $65 k depending on condition and originality. If it's mint maybe more....Take it to a music store and watch them either: A) shit twice and die or
B) try to shaft you out of it

Whats A Good Setup?

Ok, I love playing Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine And almost any alternative. I have a Aria Pro II guitar and a Fender Eighty-Five amp. I need 2 know whats a good pedal(s) to get the effects. (No cheap S#$@)

Re: Whats A Good Setup?

I would recommend a Boss Blues Driver for the warm, overdriven stuff and an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff or the ProCo Rat for the big distortion effects. Also, for the Nirvana style, a good Chorus pedal. The Boss Chorus Ensemble is very cool. And for the RATM stuff, the Digitech Whammy pedal IS A MUST!!!. I hope this helps.

Used Fender twin reverb

There is a used fender twin reverb at a local music store where i live. It seems in OK condition. There is some rust on the top, and it just looks old (obviously). I havnt played it. I wanted to know if it is worth buying this amp (only clean channels) for $699.99??
thanks
matt

Re: Used Fender twin reverb

If it works well, and the tubes are OK (should play loud) Twins range from $450-$650. Remember, tubes cost$ to replace and can be a hassle to get, but the sound a Twin can get can be worth it. If you really want it, offer them less. $699 seems on the high side to me?? But I'm cheap.

Re: Used Fender twin reverb

Definatly check the amp out first. When you turn it on
the tubes should glow blueish color.Crank it for a few minutes, make sure it doesn't cut-off or get shitty. It
should keep it's clear tone at high volumes.Look at the
speakers, you'll want the original fender speakers in there. Also, check each channel and the bright switch,
make sure they're functioning right.$699 seems kinda high,so try to check out other stores before you buy. $550-$650 is about right. If you really want it,DON'T BULLSHIT.Throw what ya' got right on the counter! If it works well, your money will be well spent.
Good Luck

Guitar pick-ups

I have perchased a FENDER HOTROD DEVILLE AMP, and i have a WASHBURN MG-42 , NUNO BETTENCOURT signature axe,it's white with EXTREM insignia on it , but the pick-ups are Wasburn factory , now my Q is when i crank my fender amp, it begins to feedback and tweek like crazy, as if i derect my mic into monitors , it does the unwanted feedback sound , even when i am far away and face back from my amp?????now my belief is that my pick -ups are to cheap , or too loud for size of room 20x20 ft.???? can anybody fill me in here with a suggestion or remedy please.

Re: Guitar pick-ups

The pickups are microphonic. You have 2 options: Replace them or have them wax potted. Wax potting is cheaper, especially if you are happy with the sound. Find a repair shop that will do this for you.

identifying guitar by serial number

After the burial of my father I discovered a semi-hollow electric guitar in his closet. Sunburst in color and in decent condition the products name was removed from the headstock. No other dentifying labels other than the serial number bolted on a plate on the back of the neck.

How do I getinformation on this guitar?

Re: identifying guitar by serial number

Very difficult if not impossible from your description. Send me a photograph and I'll see what I can come up with. No promises here. Regards. Dave from England

chord sus??

ive been lookin at tabs and there are certain chords with sus behind them. i have a chord chart and it doesnt say anything about sus. What is it??
sean

Re: chord sus??

Hi,
sus stands for suspended. A suspended chord replaces the third with a fourth, a sixth or a ninth(which is a 2nd an octave up.) They sound as if they are neither major nor minor. Like they are suspended. If you are familiar with Queensryche they use suspended chords quite a bit.
Tabs for some common sus chords(starting from low e):

Asus2: x 0 2 2 0 0
Dsus2: x x 0 2 3 0
Dsus4: x x 0 2 3 3

Hope this helps!

newbie

uh...it looks like this board stopped in december...maybe not
Anyway, ok i wanna learn how to play electric guitar (metal & hard rock stuff) and i basically know nothing. and i was just wondering how long it would take to be able to play (the tabs & stuff that are on bands websites) and i also need advice on buying first guitar. i sound like an idiot cuz most of you seen to know what youre talking about, but help me please!

my email

i forgot my email here it is iforgetmyname573@yahoo.com

Re: newbie

i understand, when i was 14 there's noone outthere giving me advise on how to play a guitar.

1.how long it would take? one of my friend made it in 2 weeks to master all the basic rythm, and some of them never make it.
2.metalica use ESP guitars. however, gibson is more all rounded. at least u can play matal and hard rock.gibson epiphone sounds pretty ok now (relatively cheap)

i will recommend u to go for mutli-effect(rp-100,zoom505II....cheaper one), pedals is kinda expensive for a beginner, and u dont have enought experience to adjust the tone.

or just use the dist channer on the amp. it sounds pretty good also.

anyway, it's just my own opinion for a beginner...good luck.

Buy a new Taylor 514 ce or used Lowden O-32C ?

I have to decide between a new Taylor 514 CE and used Lowden O32C made in Northern Ireland, which are all great. I play fingerstyle. If anyone get use to these 2 guitars, please tell me.

What amp???

I'm looking to buy an amp any suggestions???

Re: What amp???

: I'm looking to buy an amp any suggestions???

Not know ing what you intend to use it for makes it difficult, but if I had to have one amp to play and lug around it would be a Fender Blues Jr. - usually available for 250 bux American on ebay.

Re: What amp???

I have to agree. The Fender Blues Jr. is an awesome amp for a relatively cheap price. I play a strat through one and it gives the howlingest tones.

What are the best scales to learn?

i've recently started learning scales and have noticed an improvement. but i know absolutely nothing about them. i learned the E Minor Blues scale and a E Minor pentatonic. but i want to learn more and found a lot of scales in books and on the net that aren't moveable and just don't sound any good. any suggestions on what scales are good?

Re: What are the best scales to learn?

I'd learn the extended minor pentatonic, the major scale, the blues scale should be moveable to any position, I 'd also learn the modes. That should cover most stuff.
