it’s usually good to change one string at a time. You want to keep the same stress on the neck as possible. Taking all of them off at once will only lead to future truss rod adjustment.

: i think i have an idea of how to change them but i need to make sure, so please helpDear nick for decent help on changing strings go to http://www.frets.com then click on big index page you will see pics etc on changing strings ,for gods sake DONT cut your strings as Ken suggests because this takes all the tension off the neck of the guitar and can end up damaging your axe, change strings one at a time till they are all done this keeps tension on the neck,no offence ken but its not a good move, ive been a luthier for 35 years so you may want to take my word for it. hope so ,good luck mate b.j.kenna

I am assuming this is a 6 string guitar, let me know if it is not. First loosen the strings, then cut them in the middle, around where the neck meets the body, and remove them from the tuning pegs, and then the body. Place the new string in either through the bridge if electric or place bridge peg on top if acoustic. Then run string up to tuning peg and cut off all but about 1 or 2 inches past the tuning peg, that will give you plenty to wind up, but not too much. Place string into the hole, only about 1/2 inch sticking through, then start winding. That is it.

i havent been able to find a model number on this guitar. ive had it since 1955. if you’d like a picture, i will be glad to email some to anyone interested. a few people say if my guitar was in very good condition, it would run around 5 to 8 grand. it is in fair condition, has had a face-lift. needs very minor fixes, like bridge at bottom. ive been told it was made around 1937. any offers will be considered. thanks! Would you like some FREE, EASY money?Re: Entertainment Chat (Admin)Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 13:53:35 GMT From: Does Anyone Need Some Easy, Extra Cash??? Read This!!! Re: HS CC (Admin) Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 23:42:24 GMT From: js187899 > Make $6,000 with $6 You all Must Read this!!! Re: Entertainment Chat (Admin) Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2001 19:51:03 GMT From: Make $6,000 with $6 You all Must Read this!!! A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6. Post the article (with your name in the #6 spot) in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands). No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: "what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right?" Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!? Within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it’s still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it’s still coming in rapidly. It’s certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on lunch!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, WHY it works… Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! Suggestion: READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE CAREFULLY!! Print it out or download it. Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It’s easy. It’s legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage) IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and, it’s 99% risk-free. Best of all– it really works! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. PLEASE CONTINUE IN ITS SUCCESS BY CAREFULLY ADHERING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS. You will now become part of the Mail Order business. In this business your product is not solid and tangible, it’s a service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal. Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses: #1)Tim Beaudoin 5362 Greenplain Rd Norfolk, VA 23502 #2)Joe Laycock 36-1825 Atkinson St Penticton B.C. V2A 6Y5 #3)Dale Jeep 112 Thompson Dr Greenwood, SC 29649 #4)Mike Vucetic 2087 Richland Ave. Lakewood, Ohio 44107 #5)L. Reho Jr. 106 Carmody Drive Painesville, OH 44077 #6)Josh Fink 1372 Providence Lane Hatfield, PA 19440 STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc…) and add YOUR name as #6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! You won’t get very much unless you post like crazy. 🙂 This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way: if you are of integrity and honesty, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 – $1.00 for each of the first six people listed above. Send it now, add your own name to the list and you’re in business! —DIRECTIONS —– FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS———— Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select ‘copy’ from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer’s memory. Step 2) Open a blank ‘notepad’ file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the ‘edit’ menu select ‘paste’. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list. Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different settings, you’ll always have this file to go back to. Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet Explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You’re done with your first one! Congratulations!!! THAT’S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That’s it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.** Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $625.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so… People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work. WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND!!! GOD BLESS

Like you, I’ve gone through some good times. But then I wondered, why can’t life suck? And one day, a man walked up to me and punched me in the face. I felt so alive. And then I came up with this method for not only getting punched in the face but also ensuring that my life is bloody awful. I simply post pointless, scabby messages on discussion boards. Then I give out my home address and phone number. Since I started doing so, I’ve had ribs broken, teeth ripped out and my genitals reduced to a small meaty pulp. Life has never been so crap. And best of all, I didn’t have to pay a cent!

The spec says all the wood is as an ‘original’ .All you have to worry about is manufacture , ancillary equipment , how it sounds , and playing .

READING THIS MESSAGE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER !!!!!!PLEASE READ THIS ALL!!!!!!!!! !!!!IT HELPED ME & IT CAN HELP YOU!!!! !!!! NOT A SCAM !!!! !!!I REPEAT NOT A SCAM!!! THIS ONLY COST YOU A 6.00 CASH !!!INVESTMENT!!! IT DOES WORK !!!PLEASE READ ALL!!! I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured: "what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right?" Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!?… within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! It’s certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, WHY it works… Also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy! Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (print it out or download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It’s easy. It’s legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage) IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and it is 99% no risk – it really works! If all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends. Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses: #1)Erfan Haroon 24335 Fairmount Dearborn, Mi 48124 #2) Jeremy Patrick P O Box 570632 Houston, TX 77257 #3) Anne-Marie Marszalik 212 E. Grantley Elmhurst, IL 60126 #4) Christine Thibeault P.O. Box 522197 Miami Fl. 33152-2197 #5) Sarah Olson 131 Idlestone Ln. Schaumburg, IL 60194 #6) Ger Scanlan 4 Carraig Mor, Lackagh, Galway, Ireland. STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up 1 place (#2 becomes #1, #3 becomes #2, etc…) and add YOUR name and address as number 6 on the list. This is perfectly legal! Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you’re in business! —–DIRECTIONS —– FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS————– Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Congratulations…THAT’S IT! The thing to remember is: do you TURN 6 (six) DOLLARS INTO $6000 or even $60000 EASY AND HONESTLY!!!

I’m looking for reporters who would like to run a page on their local music scene. What it will involve is going to see local bands, reviewing music, interviewing bands etc. Our reporters usually get free passes to gigs etc, and so there are benefits to this. The page needs to be updated once a month, with reports being sent to me by e-mail and then being published and put online within 1 week. We are currently looking at ways to have the articles fully printed and distributed, at the moment it looks like we will ask our users to print of copies and hand them out at gigs etc. Anyone can get involved, for more info, goto http://www.dot-bands.com/forums Thanks Paul

: I want to buy an american fender, i dunno if a standard one or a hot rodded or a deluxe, are they really different? i have tried many fenders. i bought the american standard and had it hopped up with pickups and a friend bought the mexican and it was just as good for one fourth of what i spent. the mexican standard strat is the most for the money. it plays as good as the deluxes and american standards but less than half the money. hard to beat for $349. if you want a humbucker get the fat strat mexican.

: I want to buy an american fender, i dunno if a standard one or a hot rodded or a deluxe, are they really different? I had some american fenders. Now I have JV japan Squire (and some other guitars) and this axe sounds just like some vintage Fs and MUCH better then most of the 80’s and 90’s strats. This squires were made just few years in the beginning of 80’s and then stopped by Fender (guess why?) they have fender parts and are vintage reissues. If you can find one buy it! Search web to find more about those beasts. My opinion is the Fenders are mostly overpriced, and lot of them are crap (good vintage = $$$$)consider buying Strat-like guitar from another manufactor. You should have experience in Fenders to find good one, they are uncosistent in quality and sound. Dushan

why buy a fender when you can buy a gibson LP
-
April 4, 2002 at 4:33 am #110135AnonymousGuest
: why buy a fender when you can buy a gibson LP DEPENDS ON THE MUSIC YOU PLAY. STRATS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR YEARS PLAYING MUSIC MUCH CHEAPER THAN GIBSON.MOST OF US THAT LIKE THE SINGLE COIL SOUND GO WITH STRATS.I AM LEFT HANDED, AND OWN 1-LES PAUL,2-AMER.STRATS AND A 1983 TELECASTER. THEY ARE ALL GOOD,BUT FOR ME I ENJOY PLAYING THE TELE.IN THE SHOPS IN HOUSTON YOU SEE MANY PEOPLE CHANGING THEIR PICKUP OUT ON A GIBSON TO GET THE SINGLE COIL SOUND,WHY NOT BUY ONE TO BEGIN WITH? I can only comment on the one that I have. I got a Hot Rodded Strat. American Fat Strat, with the Humbucker in the Bridge position. I RARELY use the Humbucker, I love the sound of the single coil twang, during solo’s I sometimes switch over. Happy Fendering.

I have the Hod Rod American Texas Special Fat Strat, and I love it more than any of the other 18 guitars I have. I like the Deluxes, but the noisless pickups are junk (in my opinion), and the standards are good. The earlier comment about the Mexican strats: They are good for the money, but play both, and I guarantee you’ll like the American better. I must say, I had to set my Strats up to my taste. I feel that the factory set up sucks. Once it is set up to your liking, it is a fantastic piece. I would recommend the Fat Strat because it seems to be the best of all worlds. It really depends on the style you play. If you want to sound like Limp Bizkit, look for something else.

G’day – wondering if anyone can help me? In 1993 i purchsed a Starfield semi-hollow body electric, cutaway guitar for about $500 AUD. Having recently valued it at a local store – i was informed that its rarity made it a highly sought after guitar. They quoted its value at around $1800-2000 AUD. While i’m aware it’s only worth what people are prepared to pay, i’d be most interest in hearing anyones thoughts given that it’s so hard trying to track down info on these guitars!!! Thanks.
-
April 14, 2002 at 6:18 pm #110150AnonymousGuest
I’d buy your guitar in a second, but not at that price. I would say that the price you paid for the guitar was exceptionally cheap even considering that most people (including me) only paid about half the recommended retail price for their starfield. The fact is that starfields, while being the best guitars that ibanez has ever produced, were too tasteful for the early – mid nineties. I have an Altair USA Custom that i bought in 1994 (more expensive than yours but not as rare): RRP £1200, paid £665. I saw an identical guitar recently for £350 in reasonable condition. Yours is a rare guitar though, I would pay up to £450 for a good condition one. Not sure if this helps, hope it does. Andrew

YOU STILL NEED TO KNOW YOUR SCALES BUT ONCE LEARNED EVEN THE BASICS YOU’LL BE ABLE TO PLAY MIND BENDING SOLOS JUST BY FEELING THE MUSIC. IF YOU DON’T FEEL IT YOU WON’T PLAY IT. THE MUSIC MUST FLOW THRU YOU. (excuse the star wars ref) BUT THAT’S JUST HOW IT IS. PSYCO.

I am thinking about putting a humbucker on my tele at the neck position and was wondering if anyone knows if it’s going to sound good or not?
-
March 27, 2002 at 8:18 pm #93054AnonymousGuest
Putting a humbucker in a Tele is a good idea, but only if you are not satisfied with the crisp, bell like tone of the single coil twang. Do you have good single coil pickups? I built a Tele, and put in Vintage Fender Noiseless pickups, and I love the sound. I just don’t attempt to play songs/sounds that require the Fattness of the Humbucker. If I were going to do this, I would put it in the Bridge position, to get better punch. I have an American Fat Strat, it has the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Humbucker in the bridge position. I rarely use it, because I love the Single Coil sound, but during a solo, or loud part, I will flip the switch. Hope this helps.

I’m interested in learning of experiences and setups for muscians playing their guitars by going through the house PA via use of preamp/modlers. Things like PODs, POD pros, Digitech products, Zoom and the like. An artical in this months Vintage guitar by Riley Wilson call Ampless in 2002 poses the idea of removing the guitar amp and using his POD pro commected to the house system. I like the idea of traveling light. Please responde to dave@ falkguitars.com. Thanks – hope to here from you soon. Dave

: I’m interested in learning of experiences and setups for muscians playing their guitars by going through the house PA via use of preamp/modlers. Things like PODs, POD pros, Digitech products, Zoom and the like. : An artical in this months Vintage guitar by Riley Wilson call Ampless in 2002 poses the idea of removing the guitar amp and using his POD pro commected to the house system. : I like the idea of traveling light. : Please responde to dave@ falkguitars.com. : Thanks – hope to here from you soon. : Dave dear dave. i am a fellow player like you and want to travel light. i have had many back problems in the past and am through with toting heavy guitar amps. i have toted marshalls, fenders, etc. and it is not worth it now that preamps have gotten so good. that is why i was prompted to follow up on your comment. at the most i will carry a small 12 watt amp and use a preamp. i have the small pod and it is the best for tone. the pod pro has even better control but the same tone. but, i recently bought the behringer (pod copy) called the v-amp2. as far as tone goes, it is 95% as good as pod. the effects are way better though. you have the option with the v-amp2 to use it as just an effects processor, bypassing the preamp voices. they are all 24 bit effects and are very sweet. also the v-amp2 has a jack where you can plug in another device’s line out and mix it with your guitar signal. the best part is it is nearly one fourth the price of pod by the time you buy the extras. pod goes for $299 to $349 with no extras. you can get the v-amp2 for $129.95, with a gig bag and footswitch. buy the time you buy the pod, a footswitch, and a gig bag, you will spend $420 to $470. all the stores are selling them. the only place i found one in stock was http://www.zzounds.com. loks like everyone is buying them also. i can tell you this. the saturated guitar tones in pod and the v-amp2 really shine. the clean tones in both are pretty bad if you ask me. one thing i know is tone. i have searched for it for over thirty years. the only really good way to get really good clean tones from pod and v-amp2, are to use the tube preamp voice instead of the amp voices. strats really shimmer through the tube preamps of pod and v-amp2. there is another advantage pod has over the v-amp2. you can download hundreds if not thousands of tones from the line6 pod website. you can do the same with the v-amp2 but they have only about seven tones as of now because they are so new at it. just take the output of the preamp and plug into a direct box and then into the house system. pod pro does not need a direct box. i hope this helps. best wishes to you and your’s. sincerely, michah

It looks like lots of folks are going that direction. I agree with them. The amp modelers are the wave of the future. Or at least a large wave among several waves. I am playing a Zoom 503 that is about 3 generations old. There’s now the 505, 505II, and 606, for guitar amps. I sold everyone of my amps last year to pay for medical expenses of an injury. I sold a 60 watt all tube Marshall, 135 watt Bassman, and a small handful of smaller tube amps. Now I’ve got my Fender mexican Strat, a Zoom 503, a Marshall Bluesbreaker, and a pair of Sony Sports headphones. It’s a blast. I simply love this setup. Of all the top notch amps I’ve owned in the last two years, the only thing I miss is a 60’s Supro, all tube amp with an 8" speaker. I only bought the bigger amps as an investment to resell, and I couldn’t even make myself like them. The Zoom 503 beats them all hands down. That being said however, there’s a lot to be said for the small all tube amps, (class A). You can’t beat them for tone or touch dynamics, and you don’t have to crank them so earbursting loud to get huge tones out of them. So small tube amps, and amp modelers are the new waves as far as I’m concerned. Steely Dan is said to have used the Zoom 505II on their newest album. And I read where Buddy Guy is now toting around a Fender Cyber Twin to live shows. He wanted to be able to capture all of the vintage sounds of his new album "Sweet Tea" without hauling around tons of amps and tweaking between songs. Just tap in a different preset and presto new amp. The only people who complain about the amp modelers are those folks who are trying to run them through a guitar amp that doesn’t have a wide, flat eq setting. The amp modelers don’t need a guitar amp. The guitar amp is too narrow banded, and has its own distinctive sound that will only severely corrupt the modeler’s sound. An amp modeler needs a clean power amp without any sound colorations added. They have amp cabinet emulations, resonance emulation, microphone placement emulation. When you start tweaking these parameters you’ll discover that they add some very fine tonal nuances that a Marshall Stack set on drive will only messup and everything will sound bad, amp and modeler. So Yes, modelers are the newest wave, but don’t tube amps are TKO’d just yet. I remember when we all thought tubes were dead and transistors ruled the brave new world. Still, I think it’s pretty cool when I can put my entire rig into a BRIEFCASE!

: Does anyone have any info on the Boss Jamstation. Are they "good" or "bad" ?. : Tired of lonely hours practising alone !. I bought one 3 days ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. It is very versatile but there is a learning curve. I may have to make some cheat sheets. The sounds are very good. There are plenty of rhythms and styles to choose from. You can use the preset chord progressions and arrangemnets (forms) or you can use your own. You are llimited to about 8 distinct forms so your songs could only have 8 unique parts which you can use in any combination. For example forms are the building blocks of the arrangement: Intro – Verse 1 – Chourus – Fill – Ending etc. Eight is probably sufficient for most songs. Yu can plug in your guitar and record right along with your arrangement. If you have a recorder with midi sequence capabilities, you can sync the recorder and Jamstation and record the whole thing. The net effect is extra tracks and built in accompinment! You will eventually need a minimum 32MB Smart Media card to store songs. Musiciansfriend has them for $349. Guitar Center has tham in their stores for $399 which you can likely negotiate down to $349 if you bring in the advert from Musiciansfriend. The only downsides I can think of are 1) it’s a little pricey 2)it is not a true drummachine. I don’t think you can create your own new drum rhythms (or I haven’t gotten that far in the manual), 3)learning curve is a little steep. I think it is a worthwhile investment for 1)working on your chops with a virtual band 2)song writing exploration outside of your box 3)creating slick demos of tunes KM

: Does anyone have any info on the Boss Jamstation. Are they "good" or "bad" ?. : Tired of lonely hours practising alone !. I just got one. The learning curve seems a bit rough, and it seems to be limited as to what kind of stuff you can do right out of the box. It has 200 songs to choose styles from, but only 10 or so have any real beats to use. I will learn more. I finally got Knocking on Heavens door to sound good. Steve

We practice with it. He plays organ (Hammond B-3) and I play guitar Gibson 325). He has a professional set-up on the sound board and Mackie speakers. The Jamstation’s built in bass and drum players sound exactly like someone was there playing with you.

No, but I would recommend Danelectro basses for the ladies. They are light in weight, have shorter scales and a butt-kicking sound. Roger Entwhistle and Jack Bruce have both been known to use them. See http://www.danelectro.com/guitars.htm or http://www.danelectro.com/Dcbass.htm : Hi, does anybody know if there’a a special base guitar model for women? : Hi, does anybody know if there’a a special base guitar model for women? It should be light-weight, and short-necked (for small hands). Thanks, Carsten Well, that enter key got in my way… Message 2 My friend has small hands and he is gigin’ a lot (some kind of folk music), so he found a luthier to make one guitar just for the road: smaller body, lighter wood, thinner neck and shorter scale (scale is distance between beginning of first fret and bridge). Thicker strings work better on this thing. Build your own instrument is not so costly solution as it may seem at first. What you get is something sized between guitar and bass and still bass sounding. Hope this helps Dushan

Greetings all. I have been known to post something once in a while on different sites expressing my opinion on products related to my profession and hobby. Playing Guitar. I purchased a a new Fender Parsons/Green B bender back in 97′ and untill the year 2000 I had problems with string breakage on the b among all the other string breakage problems that a busy player like myself would know about. Then totaly on a fluke I went to make a string set puchase at my local music store and they were out of the brand that I normaly would use and out of the back up brands that I had used in the past. The only 10-46 set on the shelf was made by RotoSound in England. "RotoSound? I thought those were bass strings." I bought them anyway. Very much to my amazement. The strings sounded better than any I had ever used on the Tele. Even right out of the package they sounded great. I always hated the first 5 hours on a new set of strings but this tone was good. In most cases I was changing stings every week or so due to breakage or deadness before I found the RotoSounds. Now I’m only changing strings every two months. Talk about a money saver! The tone, sustain and durabilty of the RotoSound Guitar strings has won my vote hands down. I use the Roto Yellows (10 to 46) on my Tele and I use Roto Pinks (9 to 42) on my Strat. Although not sold in every music store on the planet but they can be found. Don’t take my word for it, Try’em. Rotosound Strings, No longer a bass player’s secret.

not entirely the same. The 2120 x has a 2band EQ which as far as I remember the 2020 does not have. I have heard that some owners were not really pleased with the original pick-ups and replaced them with DiMarzio’s. I would not do that…

What I’m looking for now is a set of Fender pickups that sound more like the new Fender Time Machines i.c more vintage. My question is: which pickups are more close to the pickups used in the new Fender Time Machines: the Fender Custom 54 or the Faf 50? Maybe there are more alternaitives? In the meantime, take care

Honest Easy Money!!!!! : ——————————————————————————– : THIS REALLY CAN MAKE YOU EASY MONEY!! IT WORKS!!! BUT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW IT TO A LETTER FOR IT TO WORK!!!! : A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought," Yeah, right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. : Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it : all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal! Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS WHAT!!… within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! It’s : certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps, I have spent more than that on the lottery!! : Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works….also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a : piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service by this. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses: : #1) Grant : P.O.Box 703394 : New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170 : #2) Lisa : 57 Hampton Oaks Drive : Hampton, GA 30228 : #3) A. Furman : 8747 bay parkway, apt 2c : Brooklyn, NY 11214 : #4) Travis P.O. Box 815 Gig Harbor, WA 98335 : #5) S. Tubbs 740 Westbrooke Village Apt #C, Manchester, MO 63021 :#6) Redeye Zhanrax 727 Thorn St. Mtn. Home, AR 72653 : STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc…) and add YOUR Name as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! —DIRECTIONS —–HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS———— Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your : cursor to the bottom of this document, and select ‘copy’ from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computers memory. If you want to do your postings in different sittings, you’ll always have this file to go back to. : Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line : forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You’re done with your first one! : Congratulations…THAT’S IT! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroupes and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That’s it! You will begin reciving money from around the world within days! You may eventually wany to rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as : long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.** : Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional : $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626.00! With a original investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is, do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so… People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you : the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will work.

| Subject: Make Money Now!!! | The Message: Dear Friends: Greetings: I am a retired attorney. A few years ago a man came to me with a letter. He asked me to verify the fact that this was legal to do. I told him I would review it and get back to him. When I first read the letter my client brought me, I thought it was some "off-the-wall" idea to make money. A week and a half later we met in my office to discuss the issue. I told him the letter he originally brought me was not 100% legal. My client then asked me to alter it to make it perfectly legal. I asked him to make one small change in the letter. I was still curious about the letter, so he explained to me how it works. I thought it seemed like a long shot, so I decided against participating. But before my client left, I asked him to keep me updated on his results. About two months later, he called me to tell me he had received over $800,000 in cash. I didn’t believe him, so he asked me to try this idea and find out for myself. I thought about it for a couple of days and decided I really didn’t have anything to lose, so I asked him for a copy of the letters. I followed the instructions exactly, mailed 200 copies, and sure enough, the money started coming in! It arrived slowly at first, but coming. I kept a precise record of the earnings, and in the end, it totaled $978,493! I could hardly believe it. I met with my friend for lunch to find out exactly how it worked. He told me there are quite a few similar letters around, but this one is different because there are six names at the end of the letter, not five like some others. This fact alone results in your name being in far more returns. The other fact was the help I gave him, making sure the whole thing was legal, since no one wants to take the risk of doing something illegal. : By now you are surely curious to know what small changes to make. If you sent a letter like this one out, in order to be completely legal, you must actually sell something in order to receive a dollar in return. So when you send a dollar to each of the names on the list, you must include these words, "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST" and include your name and address. This is the key to the program. The item you will receive for the dollar you sent to the six people below is the letter. : At the time I first tried this idea, I was earning a good living as a lawyer. But everyone in the legal profession will tell you there is a lot of stress that comes with the job. I told myself if things worked out, I would retired from my practice and play golf. I decided to try the letter again, but this time I sent 500 copies. Three months later , I had totaled $2,341,178! : Here are a few reasons a person might give for not trying this program: Ø Some people think they can never make a lot of money with anything this simple. Ø Some are afraid they will be ridiculed for trying Ø Some dream of large sums of money, but do nothing to actually achieve it. Ø Some are just plain lazy. Ø Some are afraid of losing their investment. They think this program is designed to beat them out of a few dollars. : The system works if you will just try it. But you must follow the simple instructions exactly, and in less than three months, you will receive $800,000 GUARANTEED! Keep what you are doing to yourself for awhile. Many will tell you it won`t work and will try to talk you out of your dreams. Let them know of your success after it works. : LETTERS FROM PARTICIPANTS IN THIS PROGRAM: : My name is David Rhodes. In 1992 my car was repossessed and bill collectors were housing my. I was laid off and my unemployment ran out. In October of 1992, I received a letter telling me how to earn $800,000 anytime I wanted. Of course, I was skeptical. But because I was so desperate and virtually had nothing to lose, I gave it a try. In January 1993, my family and I went on a 10-day cruise. The next month I bought a brand new Mercedes with cash! I am currently building a home in Virginia and I will never have to work again. This money program really works perfectly every time. I have never failed to receive less than $500,000. This is a legitimate, money-making opportunity. It does not require you to sell anything or to come in contact with people. And , best of all, you only leave the house to mail the letters. If you have always believed that someday you would get the lucky break, then simply follow the instructions and make dreams come true. : Larry McMahon, Norfolk, VA Six months ago, I received this letter and ignored it. Five more came within a period of time and I ignored them also. I was tempted, but I was convinced that they were just a Hoax. After three weeks of deliberating, I decided to give it a try ( not expecting much ). Two weeks went by and nothing happened. The fourth week was unbelievable! I cant say I received $800,000 but I received $400,000. For the first time in years, I am debt free. I am doing this again, only this time starting with 500 post. I strongly recommend that you follow the instructions exactly as outlined in this letter. : INSTRUCTIONS 1. Immediately send $1.00 to each of the six people on the list at the end of this letter. Wrap the dollar bill in a note saying " Please add me to your mailing list" and include your name and address. : 2. Copy this letter. You do not have to type it 200 times. Simply place your cursor at the top of the page, hold it and drag it all the way down to the end of the letter. Then click on "edit" and select "copy". Now open up a notepad file on your computer and put the cursor at the top of the page in the notepad, click on ‘edit’ and then select ‘paste’ it will copy the letter for you onto your computer. : 3. Remove the name next to the #1 on the list and move the rest of the names up one position (#2 becomes #1, #3 becomes #2, etc…..) Then place your name in the #6 position. Then save it, make sure it is saved as a txt. file. : 4. When you have completed the instructions, take this letter and then go to (Google,Yahoo,…) and type in (Making Money Massege board,or post massege,…)and start posting your copy to 200 message boards,or more this is only the minimum, you can post as much as you like…The more copies you send the better the results. Keep a copy of this letter so you can use it a second time. Post it out again in six months, but Post it with the addresses you receive with each dollar. It will work better the second time. NOTE: This service is 100% legal – (Refer to title 18 section 1302 of the U.S. Postal & lottery laws) : How does it work? When you send out 200 Posts, it is estimated that at least 15 people will respond and send you a $1.00. ($15.00) Those 15 will Post 200 Posts each and 225 people send you $1.00 ($225.00) Those 225 people Post 200 Posts each and 3,375 people send you $1.00 ($3,375.00) Those 3,375 post 200 posts each and 759,375 people send you $1.00 ($759,375.00) At this point your name drops off the list, but so far you have received $813,615.00. P.S. When your money begins to come in, give the first 10% to charity with spirit and share a good fortune! : : 1. P. Ortner 29 Briarlee Dr. Tonawanda, NY 14150 :2. Heidi Young 7409 StHwy 206 Sidney Center NY13839 :3. A. Goodman 425 Vineyard Dr. Salisbury, NC 28146 4. B. Hume 3460 Kensington Detroit, MI 48224 5. S. Hummons 2834 Forest Grove Ave Dayton, OH 45406 6.Monica Brewer P.O. Box 7571 Richmond, Virginia 23231 : This really really works,I tried it once and I’m doing it again, first to be honest I only posted 145 posts and I didn’t recive alot only 6,689.00$ in 3 months,at least this means that it realy works ,so this time I’m posting 604 posts and I’ve got so far in 2 month 15,640.00$ this is realy like a dream come true. So go on and try it trust me you’ve got nothing to lose…. : important tip – Cover money by paper fully by which it can not been seen in light , because postal employees do some cheat some times….ok

Hello all, I just bought a Guild JF55 via mail. The guitar is beautiful and sounds magnificent but action is a bit higher off the finger board than I had expected. Is this normal for this type of guitar? If not, can it be lowered and if so how do I find a good luthier to do it. These go for around $2000 and I wouldn’t want an amature dressing frets or the bridge. Any info concerning this would be greatly appreciated. My Ovation 12 string has better action than this thing. Thanks, Jeff

March 22, 2002 at 9:18 pm #92923AnonymousGuest
Hmm.I like Guild stuff. You could lower the saddles yourself without harming the axe.If you take it to an "Axe Tech.",ask him for a gind and polish. This will lower the frets a bit and prevents "tripping" when sliding up the neck. It’ll also be easier to tune, since there won’t be a lot of space between the fretboard and strings(when pressing). Good Luck

Anybody that can help me find out any information on this Guitar I recently aquired would be really nice. I have a Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul Guitar. The serial #’s don’t seem to match anything I have found yet. They are located on the back of the body on the neck Bracket. It says "Handcrafted by Epiphone The Epiphone Company Nashville Tenn. USA." then under that the #’s are stamped, and they are "S5101396" How do I find out the year and if there is anything special about it? What it’s worth?

Twenty five years ago I bought a hagstrom guitar. The plastic name was broken and I don’t see a serial number on it. From photo’s posted at another site it appears to be a corvette, but mine has only got two pickups where the photo has three. Is this common? Where can I find what the thing is worth, I hav’nt played it in years, but when I was playing it sure was nice. Tim

I have a TSL 100 Head with a 1960A Lead cabinet. Which Impedance should I be using and should I be connecting it to the left or right speaker jack on the cabinet? Thanks! Jiggy
-

You must connect your TSL head output 16 ohm into the 16 ohm input jack of the cabinet (cabinet selector in mono position) with a big and short cable whith two identical wires of 1.5 mm² each.

I am trying to find the perfect sound.I just bought a Marshall AVT150 head w/ a Marshall 4×12 cab along with a Gibson LesPaul Studio. The amp sounds real good with its built in preamp, but I want to get the thick ballsy sound of nu metal as well as jump back to old metal and jazz/blues.Will a Equalizer rack effect help me to round out my sound more or if not what will? The overdrive 2 channel on my amp already has a real thick distortion.
-
March 21, 2002 at 8:00 am #92749AnonymousGuest
Hmm.The new metal guys use a couple of tricks.(1)Recording guitar tracks at high speed, then slowing them down.(2)Detune effect(3)Layering guitar tracks and other things. An equalizer could help by scooping out the mids and raising the bass&treble. But it can add a little noise too.My cheap ass Smash-Box helps me get that new sound.I’ll use a small,7 band E.Q. to boost the mids for solos. Also,I highly recommend the Boss OD-3!I used it on a Marshall JMC 900…it ROARED!! Good Luck

Thank you for the info.I took my LesPaul in to My local guitar tech for some light work to get it setup the way I want it.I asked him about the Equalizer rack and he said the exact same thing you did.So I am going to invest in a Boss 7 band EQ.Thank you.

Im just a begginer guitarist and own a fender.Im going to try and be as simple as i can ,but when i try and run my fingers down the fret and try just a solo it doesn’t sound like a solo should be.For an example i don’t know if the strings are to high from the fretboard, and im sure it is in tune but when i put my fingers on different chords it doesn’t sound as ‘easy’ as a solo like an eddie van halen solo, might it be the way my fingers are moving from chord to chord my picking style or how does disortion pedals come into this. Thanks for your advise.

March 21, 2002 at 7:44 am #92780AnonymousGuest
Hmm.Since you’ve just started playing, don’t put unrealistic demands on yourself! Eddie Van Halen is a guitar legend,so picking up his stuff will take lots more practice, experience and knowledge. It’s not so basic!Instead,I would pick some easier solos.Example; Money(Pink Floyd),Smokin’in the Boy’s Room(Brownsville Station)and some early Santana are basic pentatonic solos. This will lead you to the Van Halen stuff. Good Luck
-
March 21, 2002 at 4:31 am #92781AnonymousGuest
Here’s some advice kid- Take baby steps, you’re not gonna ever be able to play like Eddie so start with the basics. You have to learn how to hold your guitar and pick before you can solo. You gotta crawl before you walk, walk before you run. As far as the guitar goes, you may need to fix your action and maybe bring your Axe into a guitar shop to have them check it out if the strings are riding too high. Your mom : Im just a begginer guitarist and own a fender.Im going to try and be as simple as i can ,but when i try and run my fingers down the fret and try just a solo it doesn’t sound like a solo should be.For an example i don’t know if the strings are to high from the fretboard, and im sure it is in tune but when i put my fingers on different chords it doesn’t sound as ‘easy’ as a solo like an eddie van halen solo, might it be the way my fingers are moving from chord to chord my picking style or how does disortion pedals come into this. Thanks for your advise.

After rigid practice for 20 years, MAYBE you could sound like Eddie.
-
March 20, 2002 at 10:08 pm #92774AnonymousGuest
If youre trying to play really fast stuff, it will take loads of practice to learn . i mean learn so well you can play it with your eyes closed, and you are really really comfortable playing it. If youre a beginner, youre expecting too much of yourself to be able to sound like the pros… give yourself time and practice your stuff over and over again. It always looks easier than it is, you wouldn’t believe how hard some of the stuff some people play actually is. as to getting the effects, most pros like van halen will use really expensive amps, pedals etc. Getting the right combination is extremely hard. However dont be put off, try playing something that is simple- few effects, and concentrate on getting the tone right (ie how you play on the guitar). One of my favuorites is Dire Straits Brothers In Arms, the sound is amazing specially on the last solo. Its a really slow song but sounds amazing. Its good practice just to play as fast/ slow as you like. Good luck ! G

Jesus Christ Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Revelation 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. What Must I Do To Get Saved? You must confess openly that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior read John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Verse 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condem the world; but that the world through him might be saved. That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NIV) You must be Baptized read Mark 16:15,16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Verse 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Join everyone in spreading the word- PART 1 Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. For the next 30 days (and beyond) you are to hand out a minimum of 30 FLYERS EACH DAY. Email this letter to people you know (ABSOLUTELY NO SPAMING – ITS AGAINST THE LAW AND GOD SAYS TO OBEY THE LAW), mail it through the postal system, place them on doorsteps, message boards, newsgroups, .alt, pass them out at the office, give it to the church, radio networks, etc. NOTE: it is illegal to place flyers on windshields in parking lots. If you speak another language, go to http://www.thegiftsoftheholyspirit.org for a translation and mail or email it to friends in other countries to be a witness unto all nations as stated above. PART 2 For the next 30 days, you will start getting everything in your life right with God. Read Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. PART 3 See you in Heaven. Amen! Go online to http://www.thegiftsoftheholyspirit.org to get a translation into another language or to print a copy of this letter or go to a copy store. Please read Ezekiel 33:1-9

When you all stop laughing at my total lack of knowledge and my inability to tell a set of 9 strings from a set of 10’s (age comes to us all you know) could anyone tell me what size of strings are fitted as standard to a Epi LP standard. ps If you stop laughing long enough perhaps a few recomends if I wanted to change the standard strings. (Whatever size they are)?
-

Most guitars are shipped from the factory with 9’s….and it is not a stupid question. The reason they are shipped with 9’s is that is the in the middle gauge. It is a gauge I use. For years I used 10’s becasue I would break strings. But, as my style started to calm down I went to 9’s…… Also, what ever you do will require a neck adjustment. Guitars come from the factory with the Truss rod adjust for the gauge of strings that are on them. So if you are going to go upto 10’s from 9’s you will notice the action will get higher and harder to play. So be prepaired, I actually love tweeking out the action and getting it just right. Good Luck feel free to Email me: When you all stop laughing at my total lack of knowledge and my inability to tell a set of 9 strings from a set of 10’s (age comes to us all you know) could anyone tell me what size of strings are fitted as standard to a Epi LP standard. : ps If you stop laughing long enough perhaps a few recomends if I wanted to change the standard strings. There really is NO standard. I would say if went into a Guitar shop, they would probably have 09s on them. I use .11s on my Fat Strat, .09s on my Tele and Les Paul, but I use my Strat 90% of the time. Depends on how you like the strings, I am not a huge string bender, and I personally feel the fatter the string, the better tone you get. Start with the .09s, work your way up.

One more thing. The shorter the string scale the heavier the string gauge should be. Strats have a scale of 25.5 inches and Les Pauls (Most on both counts) have a scale of 24.75 inches….(I think that is right for Gibsons) I also have a mini guitar from a company called Chiquita. This guitar has a very short scale. I had to put Jazz 13’s in oreder to get the string tension where it needs to be. so there is a standard, well sort of. It also depends on what you pitch you tune to. I played in a blues band that tuned all the way down to D and I had to go up in gauge to get the action where it was not so loose. I went up to 10’s (on a ’97 American Strat) and she played beautifully. Younger metal players that are wanting to tune down to play with the current rock bands, this applys to you. Most of them tune down to E flat of D. Some even tune all the way down to B, yep, no shit. Some are even using 7 string guitars but you can achieve the sound with out investing into a 7 string by just tuning down and going up in string gauge…….damn I hope that was not to much information hahahahaha. I use 11 to 52 on my Tokai and it sounds sweet and strong through my ‘Twin or 50W Marshall with no effects or junk in the way. It might take a bit of getting used to, but it’s worth it for the tone. Anything less than 10s and it starts to whimp out in a ‘pure’ environment – OK so fx and masses of OD and it doesn’t matter so much. U can also get more stable tuning and go down to C no worries. Consider: did the guys in the past use light baby strings? I don’t think so! Wire them up and get twanging

-
March 19, 2002 at 11:30 pm #92762AnonymousGuest
No problem, just mute the 5th string with the finger that is on the 6th string. Example; I play a G chord with my middle finger on the 6th string. I make sure that it is also slightly touching the 5th string, as to mute it. Give it a try.

I’ve just purchased a new Epiphone LP Classic and noticed that all 4 volume/tone knobs appear to be fitted ‘off centre’ (like when a hubcap is not fitted correctly on a car wheel and makes it look like the wheel is buckled when it turns). Either: 1. All 4 potentiometer shafts are bent (unlikely) or 2. The holes in the knobs haven’t been drilled true (unlikely again). I know the body has a contour but the knobs definately turn ‘off centre’. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, what kind of headstock does your Kay have? There are certain Kay guitars that are considered "collectables," but not all. collectable Kays are any model with the "Kelvinator" plastic headstock overlay with art deco patterns. Used from 1957 to 1960, this headstock was named after the brand of refrigerator that looked quite similar. This overlay was injection molded with clear acrylic plastic and then back-painted either white or black, with gold highlights in the crest and gold dots outside of the crest. Starting in late 1960, Kay switched to a less expensive "half" Kelvinator that used just the triangle Kay crest from the full Kelvinator, screwed to a simple black plastic headstock veneer. This "half" Kelvinator dropped the black or white back-painted acyrlic "lunchcountertop" surround with gold dots. This design only lasted till the end of 1961 when the Kelvinator headstock was completely dropped. I, myself, own a Kay, and I, too, don’t know if it’s worth anything. It doesn’t have the headstock described, but it does have a headstock that resembles the Fender strats’ headstock. The whole guitar looks like a strat, but it does have its’ uniqueness. I think that it’s ok to practice on Kay guitars, because I’ve been able to learn on mine, and it’s very durable. I don’t use it for what it’s intended for; ! use it for heavy metal, and all sorts of other styles. the worst I’ve done was broke strings, but that can be easily replaced. The string action is high, so I recommend taking it to a shop and having them fix the string action so that it will be a lot easier for you to play; for beginners, it’s hell if the string action is high. If you can adjust the brige, do so. If you adjust the bridge (if it has an adjustable bridge), and the string buzzes, or if you play a note on the high frets and it buzzes and doesn’t give a clean tone, take it to a guitar shop, and have them fix it.

Kays can be very collectable, but none are worth the sort of prices garnered by vintage Gibsons and Fenders and Gretsches of the era. Kay, in the ’50s, was never more than the Buick of guitars–good solid reliable instruments that weren’t as pricey as the Cadillacs. Kay also made some cheaper entry level guitars, often with other brand names on them and sold through catalog stores like Montgomery Wards and Sears. My advice is to go ahead and play your Kay. That’s what they were made for. : Hi, what kind of headstock does your Kay have? : I, myself, own a Kay, and I, too, don’t know if it’s worth anything. It doesn’t have the headstock described, but it does have a headstock that resembles the Fender strats’ headstock. The whole guitar looks like a strat, but it does have its’ uniqueness. : I think that it’s ok to practice on Kay guitars, because I’ve been able to learn on mine, and it’s very durable.

I have found an old Custom Kraft, by Kay, the original owner purchased it in the 1930’s. IT has a tortoise shell piece. I am unsure of the term to describe it. IT protects the guitar from the pick when you are playing it. Any information on the guitar. I would appreciate.

: What’s your favorite pickup? are they really different? is it worth the gap of price from the american standard? i wanna know your opinion… : I have a standard strat and last week I bought a new Clapton signature strat. They changed the pickups on these strats last September from gols lace to vintage noiseless pickups. Well is it worth the difference ?. I wouldnt change my standard strat for sentimental reasons (It was the first guitar I owned and I love it like my son) but get them noiseless pickups and be astounded by the difference like I was !.

My son (8th grade) wants to play guitar. The school’s music director wants him — and all others — to play anything BUT guitar. Anyone know of articles on kids and learning music through learning guitar? Thanks.
-
March 18, 2002 at 11:39 pm #92761AnonymousGuest
I’m not sure why you need articles on the subject. There are probably many people who visit this site who are guitar instuctors who teach kids (like me). Why not just ask them what you would like to know? The most likely reason that your schools music director doesn’t want anyone playing guitar is that he probably doesn’t know the first thing about teaching guitar. In order to get a music education degree, you need to learn how to play, read and write music for the most popular band instuments (trumpet, sax, flute, percussion, etc…). Guitar is Not one of these instruments. When I was in college majoring in music performance, I asked why I had to learn to play the piano and pass a piano proficiency test when I was there to play guitar. I was told by the head of the music department himself that I "need to learn how to play a Chordal instrument in order to have a full understanding of music." A chordal instrument…I kid you not. This is to show how ignorant of the guitar most learning institutions are. Please feel free to contact me through email concerning this thread. I don’t check this BBS every day. I have acquired a fairly old (possibly 40’s) parlor sized acoustic guitar. It has a Regal decal (light blue with "Regal" in yellow letters and a red and yellow crown, and "Made in Chicago" in smaller black letters) on the headstock, and a blue paper sticker inside the box that says Tony J. Placht, Musical Instruments and Repairing, 1001 Fine St. St Louis, MO. It has no discernable model number. The back and sides are possibly mahogany, the top is definitely spruce, and none of it appears to be plywood. The sound hole is bound, and the binding is flush with the top but extends inside the guitar just a little bit. There is a painted-on white stripe around the top to simulate binding, the sides are dark brown, and the back is a two tone sunburst, dark around the edges. The neck has twelve frets clear of the body. The frets are made of brass and very small. It has has a neck reset, the back appears to have been off and glued back on, the bridge has been replaced, and the top and body appear to have been knocked around some. Does anybody know what this thing is and how much it might be worth? email me me at [email protected] if you can tell me anything. Thanx much, Mike Vande

Does the tremolo arm slide onto a bendy plate? If so I have one somewhere!! You can date the SG by the number on the back of the neck. If the trem is of the bendy plate type your probably looking at 1963 – 1965

I own a TSL 100 with the 1960A lead cabinet. Does anyone who owns this amp know what impedance I should be using and whether I should be using the Stereo/Mono switch. Also, which Speaker Jack to I run the speaker cable into. I have been using the 16Ohm jack in Mono. Last time my band played I had the clean volume up to 5 and it was not loud at all. Is this a sign to change my tubes? Thanks!
-
April 2, 2002 at 7:26 am #93374AnonymousGuest
Yams, Do you understand the concept of ohmage? Ohms are a measurement of resistance and all speakers create resistance to the low voltage current your amp feeds it. You’ll notice your amp has 3 ohmage selestions; 16, 8 and 4. Marshall cabs are generally 16 ohm cabs, being four 16 ohm speakers wired in series/parallel. If you use one cabinet in mono, set the amp for 16 ohms. As far as power, if you use your amp regularly for a year or so, the power tubes will wear down. Either buy a new quartet and have a reputable electrician install and re-bias your amp, or find a shop that will sell you a set for a reasonable price. Groove tubes are amongst the most expensive but you can find better deals on Sovtek and my favorite, Svetlana. Good luck and keep rockin!

I am trying to re-wire a 1960a cabinet for a friend of mine to be either mono or stereo. Obviously it comes wired mono but he would like the stereo option. I have a switch plate from my guitar player’s Mesa cabinet which can be run either mono or stereo (but it is only 2 X 12) but it seems to mess up the ohm rating when I try to use it with the 1960a. My friend uses a separate stereo power amp w/ some ‘cheezy’ roland pedal board for his rig. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi guys. i’ve been playing electric for about 3 years, and acoustic for about 8, and have got myself a Tanglewood Pioneer electric a while ago. however, now i’m getting really serious about playing, i want to upgrade the cheap amp i currently have. Mostly i play Satch, Dire Straits, Knopfler, Beatles etc. i DON’T want a load of noise, but rather a very nice tone, and i would probably use it to gig in future. I would have about £600 to spend, and would like something pretty lightweight. about 50watt, with reverb, overdrive, saturation, delay etc. Can any one recommend a suitable amp? or any suitable brands? i’m 17 now, don’t want any huge stacks or anything! Thanks, Georgi 🙂

Dude, try out a Peavey classic 50. I bought one a few years ago. They are all tube, and have a really stellar sound, particularly for the money. If you can find a Fender twin reverb (vintage of course) that would be your best bet, but for $350-$500 (American) you can find a new or used Peavey that sounds awfully nice. The Reverb is weak, but the amp lends itself very well to effects pedals of all types. Mine is a 2×12. The 4×10 sounds nice too but the 2×12 give you a stronger low range and great mids, a plus for soloing. Personally, I find I don’t need a distortion pedal very much, because the lead channel gives me all the crunch I can handle. I use a crybaby Wah-Wah, a reissue Ibanez TS-9 when I do want a little more distortion, and a sweet little Boss digital delay/Echo. The amp is so versatile you can do anything from the Beach Boys, to Delta Blues, to Clapton, to Hendrix, to U2 and anything else. I love it. It’s heavy, but not as heavy as a stack. It’s bulky, but it fits in the back seat of my car. It purrs, but it can really roar. Great for small to medium gigs. Can be used for larger gigs if combined with more gear.

March 18, 2002 at 6:11 pm #92607AnonymousGuest
My best advice to you is buy all tube amp. Knopfler among others uses also Crate Vintage Club 50 combo which is pretty loud amp for its 50watt as most of the tube amps are(around 30watt could be enough). It has nice clean sound and overdrive. As for other fx things you should buy some analog pedals.
-
March 22, 2002 at 11:31 am #92932AnonymousGuest
Hi Georgie,,,you can get a fairly small tube amp and link it to a "Good" 2×12 cab for a tremendous sound and tone combination providing you get a decent amp in the first place.I use a Peavey Classic 30 linked to a Naylor 2×12 cab for most everything with astounding results. It goes from petty clean to mean with little effort.Very nice.I personally dislike "bright" sounding speakers so test drive what you can and pick what you like best.Portabilty is really easy with this setup. But if you want more power, 2×12 cabs with anything from 30 to 120 watts will be sufficient to blow your hair back. Later…………..

Hi everyone, i have a question for you: i’m about to buy a strat and i wonder about the difference between the noiseless, standard or texas special pickups, any advices out there?
-
March 16, 2002 at 5:49 am #92629AnonymousGuest
Hello, I strictly use Strats, and I prefer the Texas Specials. The standard pickups give you a bouncy, hollower tone, texas specials give a darker, meaner tone (I usually use the neck pickup with a Super Reverb). I have only tried the noisless pickups in the store. They sounded pretty gutless to me. My favorite strat is an American Hot Rod Texas Special Fat Strat. This has the two Texas Specials, and a Duncan Pearly Gates Plus in the bridge position. I love this guitar. I have seven strats, and this is the king. It will do everything.

If you set your intonation by using a particular frequency on all of the strings you should come out with good intonation on the neck no matter where you play, but if your saddles are slipping it’ll get back out of wack real quick. Also check to make sure that your floyd rose or whatever you use is even at both ends and that your neck is straight. That may cause problems if you don’t do all that before you tune for intonation… : .The G-string on my 88 studio les paul (red-wine maple-top) is always a bit out of tune. It’a all about fun… the other posts have good advice, defintely have a plan for the most common problems.. something will happen, and take a few min by yourself before going out, or get psyched with the rest of the band… depends on the type of person you are. As it’s a first gig probally everyone will know it… play that up to the audience too. Also the advice below about drinking and smoking is right, a little to take the edge off is fine, but it won’t help much your first time, don’t depend on it, adrelin is the best stimulant/motivator… and very rarely when tou are f****d up do you sound good to anyone else than yourself, so just go out, have fun, kick some ass, get some too… that’s what all that practice is for ! : we got a pretty big gig tomorrow (well not that big-were just startin and its our first), so i need advice on what to do before we go one, and while were on stage for just feelin comfortable and gettin in the grove. thanks alot

Don’t get too worried about nerves. They’re natural and can actually help you play better if you don’t let them drag you down. Believe it or not, doing something as simple as having a couple of minutes alone before you play can be of help. Clear your mind of all the other stuff, do some slow deep breathing and remind yourself that you’re there to have fun and hopefully entertain the crowd. Knocking back a few beers or a joint might be rock n roll but it’s not going to help you if you’ve never played before. Best to avoid that or simply leave that beer until you’re halfway through the gig. Make sure you know what you’re doing during the set as well. What’s your back-up if a string or two breaks? have you got spare leads etc? If you do your homework, you won’t need to worry about that kind of thing. You can concentrate on playing. It also helps to get a few friends along to the show and encourage them to encourage you before you play. belive it or not, if you play a song and hear some yells of appreciation – it bloody helps. Even if you know it’s your friends. Finally, accept the fact that you or one of the guys in your band will fuck up. Everyone does. Once again, don’t let that get to you. Most punters don’t pick up on it. They’re there to have fun and forget their worries. You should too. Hope this helps Nobby : we got a pretty big gig tomorrow (well not that big-were just startin and its our first), so i need advice on what to do before we go one, and while were on stage for just feelin comfortable and gettin in the grove. thanks alot

i am hoping someone can help me. The Man who saved my life has a 1959 stratocaster…it sounds like Olympus but hums with every radio signal for counties…He has tried using foil to no avail. He needs a white humdinger like the one listed below. Groove Tubes has two humdingers left, but not in white. Would you know where i could get one? Any information you may have would be appreciated. Please email me at [email protected]. Gratefully, faith Humdinger The Groove Tubes Humdinger replaces your plastic single-coil pickup cover with a nickel-plated brass cover and steel bottom booster plate. This simple, yet effective, product reduces hum and RF interference while creating a hotter, thicker tone from a single-coil pickup. It transforms a wimpy bridge pickup into a power bridge pickup and improves the balance to the other pickups. Requires no soldering! HD Kit – white finish 30.00

i love my guitar more than anything, its a tanglewood Pioneer and when i play it at college all my friends stand round and say they think it is beautiful. i have been playing for about 8 years and i have four guitars but tanglewood is my favourite. my favourite way of relaxing is to sit down and teach myself some satch from internet tabs. i teach a lot of my friends at college, we have a guitar club and meet each other. i need a better amp, currently have a 10w Hohner, very basic, but would like something like an ibanez etc for my 18th birthday. regards, george the guitarist.

Hi all. I’m looking for an older Ovation, maybe not in good shape or even with a cracked or broken top. I have an idea for a project and I need to replace the top. So if anyone has a line on an older Ovation I can pick up cheap, or one with a damaged top that would be more expensive to fix than what the guitar is worth, if you could e-mail me with the details it would be much appreciated. A couple things need to be said. I don’t want an Applause, nor do I want a guitar that has a broken neck or back. With the exception of the top, the rest of the guitar needs to be playable. Thanks, Dan. [email protected]

: : Does anyone know anything about this model Yamaha Accoustic/Electric Guitar, ie. age, value, etc.? FG365S-II. Any help at this point is deeply appreciated. : : ) nope not me I own an FG365S accustic guitar. It was manufactured from 1979 to 1982 or there abouts. Mine cost $320 at that time. I still play it every day. It is not electric. At the Yamaha web site there is an area where vintage instruments are described. Mine was there but I didn’t find an electrified version. I hope this helps a little. Incidentally, my guitar is a wonderful instrument with great sound and action. Good luck.

I recently got hold a Hohner "Jack" guitar – you know, the Steinberger, full-body model. The only catch is, this guitar has been completely gutted. Chuck Schuldiner was one of the best guitarists around. He sadly passed away December 13th. We are trying to get him the coverage of Guitar World magazine because it was Chuck’s dream to be on the cover someday. He was sick and tired of seeing underrated "guitarists" on the cover. He wanted Guitar World to be a quality magazine again and it very well could be done by putting him on the cover. Unfortunately, GW is not being cooperative with us, so we could use some help though. Alright, listen up you pussy Guitar World editors, theres no reason why you shouldn’t have Chuck on the cover of your magazine. Not only is his cover picture overdue, but you guys should feel honored to even have his picture next to your company name. I don’t want to buy your guys’ gay ass magazine if you don’t start putting some real guitarists with REAL talent, not some teeny-bopper faggots who could never play a lead if their life depended on it. : Would like to know approx. value I have done a lot of checking on these Gibson’s and the start at about $3500 up to $ 5500. Any alterations to the original conditions are a major deduction even if it’s an improvement in playability or appearance. This is a highly sought after model and you are quite a lucky fellow. Hello all, I hope that you will forgive my intrusion… I am not a guitar player so I don’t know if I am welcome here or not. Here’s the deal, my band is looking for a guitarist to complete our vision. We are interested in someone is into doing something new and different, melodic and very heavy. We are influenced by bands such as Fates Warning, Queensryche, Nevermore, Godsmack and Tool just to name a few. Someone with the same influences would be cool but not neccesary, we are striving to put out originals after all. If you live in or around Akron, Ohio feel free to email me if you are interested.

Alright Javier, here’s the best answer that I can give you… Samick is a Japanese company that makes guitars for a number of companies. They supply Gibson and a few others with their "lower" quality instruments. After building up their share in that market, Samick started putting their own name on a few models. Is it a good guitar? Well, that kind of depends on what you are looking for. If you are just starting out, then it’ll do the job. But if you are half-way decent, then the answer is no. It’s kind of like asking if Burger King is good food. It’s true that it is food and it may be "good" if you are starving, but it is certainly not the best out there. And just to let you know, for a very fine guitar, you will need to REALLY REALLY search high and low. Try checking out a guy by the name of ED ROMAN. His web site offers a lot of help on everything under the sun concerning guitars. He is especially helpful when it comes to looking at guitars in some of the mega music stores, on the web, or on auction sites like EBay. Whatever you do, read his "rant" section on Ebay before you bid one penny. It is a real "eye opener". My advice would be to go slowly, figure out how nice of a guitar that you realistically need, and then don’t expect much. It took me over a year and a half of searching across the country to find a decent acoustic. There is a lot of crappola out there and twice as many buttheads who claim one thing, but deliver something altogether different. It’s sad, but very very true. Good luck.

i’m a new player and have lots of questions, if there’s anyone out there willing to help me out. first, i have zero knowledge about how to work with effects pedals. id like to, though, so i bought some on ebay used, and they didnt come with manuals. can anyone help me out with how to hook everything up? i bought 3 Boss pedals – DS1, CH1, and DD3. id like not to have to use batteries on them, but they didnt come with adapters. the person i bought them from threw in two free things called pedal cable couplers, and i have several instrument cables. Do I need to buy an adapter for each pedal, or is there some way to get power to all of them without doing that? I was also considering buying a Vox wah pedal – would i be able to hook that up with the Boss ones? Finally, what kind of strings do i use if i’m trying for a 1960’s-ish jangly sound? Thanks!

I’ve recently ordered a Tokai SG, and will soon want to replace it’s stock pickups (unless they happen to be exceptional). I’ll either be throwing in a JB and a ’59, or else two JB’s, or two Antiquities. I’ve heard that Antiquities are amazing, but they are also very expensive and hard to get where I’m situated. Would I be just as well off to throw in the newer/cheaper/more available pickups?

I have a modified Marshall with lots of mid and gain. I need a pickup with a PAFish sound but "hotter". I use a Gibson Classic 57 Plus on my Les Paul and a DiMarzio PAF Pro on my Ibanez (Basswoodbody) on they have a good clean, distinct sound with a bit of punch. I have now required a Epiphone Explorer and I´m looking for a suiting pickup. I´ve heard a lot about the SH-5 but never tried it. What´s it like, compared to the ones i´ve mentioned? Since my amp has all the gain i want, i need a pickup with a clear, clean sound with balls! I don´t want a pickup with too much mid, cause i have the mid control on my amp on "zero". Don´t need more. Please, send me an email if you can help me clear my thoughts on the SH-5.

The Seymore SH-5,I think,is an excellent choice. It’s output is about 14.5k ohms, which is considered not too high output.I have them in 3 axes, including my ’77 Les Paul(lead). The tone is sweet, but when cranked,it’ll hand out some decent ass-whooping! And at high volumes,it keep it’s tone.I’ve been using them for about 20yrs. Good Luck

Greetings. I’d like to ask a couple of questions if I may. First. I’m actually a heavy metal drummer from the 60’s and 70’s that has put away my trap about 15 years ago. A few years ago my musical flame started to re-ignite. I really wanted to get back into music, but was now looking at guitar. Never played guitar in my bands, as I was completely possessed with the drums. I’ve been playing a little over a year, and found Creed’s new song "Don’t stop dancing" to completely possess my sole. My question is, I see a lot of tab out there for "My Sacrifice" and some for "Don’t stop dancing" to be drop D tuning. Does Creed use any or a lot of drop D? Second. I found one tab for "Don’t stop dancing" written in standard tuning. The tab is pretty accurate, but I cannot seem to get the ring for one slash cord "D/C#" to sound the same. The closest I find it an "A5 ." G5 D5 D/C# Children don’t stop dancing C5 G5 D5 Believe you can fly D/C# C5 Can anyone set me straight? drummerman

I’d like to help you with creed chords, but I’m too busy to figure out chords for myself. I just want to say that a lot of guitar is now in drop D so you better get use to tuning. And if you like Creed you’ll love TOOL. In my opinion Tool is the best band playing today, once you’ve got the hang of guitar this could be you next great challenge.

The LP can usually be set lower (reasons as described in the post by Tom), and you can also put a neck of your choice on a strat. Stock I prefer the LP and can just play alot ‘faster’ on one, and I find tapping and stuff easier. Depends on what feels right to you, I like about 1/8" at the 12th fret w/.11’s and you can get that on pretty much any guitar, and I find the lower I go the more I have to ease my attack, especially playing up the neck, and I happen to have a heavey hand so I stay with a medium setup. : which do you think has better action
-
March 7, 2002 at 6:55 pm #92124AnonymousGuest
the les paul is capable of a much lower action due to its fingerboard radius (12" approx) as apposed to a strat which is about 7.25" vintage strats (approx) and 9.5" on the modern strats. The lower the action the easier it is to play but some say you lose a bit of tone, and i have noticed a lower action results in a loss off volume.

I’ve just bought an acoustic guitar, Ibanez AW 15 CE, and it seems to me that is a little dificult to play on it. I mean, the strings are a little too tight, and the action can be adjusted to be lower. Oh, and I think that pick-up doesn’t pick very good the high E string. Can this be fixed?

Hi Mary, I’ll try to help as much as I can. I am asuming that the guitar that you are "eyeing" is new or at least not 15 to 20 years old. Basically, if that is the case, the acoustic that you are looking at works exactly the same as your electric guitar. You’ll notice some differences like a greater chance for feedback at higher volume levels, less change with your tone knob, and a bit of "over-ringing" due to the fact that it is an acoustic. Otherwise, all you have to do is plug it in and go. There are a huge number of differences in acoustics though. Over 50% of the acoustics out there are crappola. If you are a "newbie", be careful. Music stores and Ebay auction people prey on "newbies". To them, it is "easy money". If you have ANY questions at all, please feel free to email me and I’ll be happy to help out. Okay? It’s better to ask a simple question than to throw a few hundred bucks away needlessly. 🙂 DALE

I’m the owner of a fender stratocaster, I bought it 2nd hand in 1966. I’d like to know the exact manufacturing year. If somebody could tell me where I can find a site in which I can find the manufacturing years according to the serialnumber, I’d be glad. The serialnumber of my strat is L 15301. I think my strat is from 1962, obvious I’m not sure.

I’m the owner of fender stratocaster, I bought it 2nd hand in 1966. I’d like to know the exact manufacturing year. If somebody could tell me where I can find a site in which I can find the manufacturing years according to the serialnumber, I’d be glad. The serialnumber of my strat is L 15301. I think it’s from 1962

is it possible to just take off the extra 6 strings and play it like a regular 6 string? whats the point you ask? well i just started learning guitar, and we have this badass holy shit good 12 string acoustic that my dad got in the 70s that he never really learned to play. thing is tho i just wanna keep it simple with a 6 string. we have a 6 string, but i mean it blows, cheapest one on earth thanks
-
March 13, 2002 at 9:31 pm #92437AnonymousGuest
Hey Bob, Yeah, you can easily take off the "high" strings and modify your 12 string into a 6 string. The only thing that you may find is that the neck is noticably wider than a normal 6 string – not that it will affect the sound at all though. Just remember that if/when you restring the thing to use the "wider" grooves in the nut. You wouldn’t want to restring it with 6 strings and use the smaller grooves. You’d find that you won’t stay in tune very well and it might even screw up the nut (depending on the type of nut installed on the guitar). Hope this helps… DALE

get a dod death metal pedal or get a rockteck, the dod has a little more volume like a decible or 2 but the rocteck has that major crunch death metal style!

Hey, whats up. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to my floyd rose to make it work better. I just broke the 1st 2nd & 4th string, it seems a little too easy to break the strings. Does anyone make any special saddles to help or is there anything I can do to help it? I’m using D’Addario 9-46’s. Anyone suggest higher gauge strings or a special brand? I just ordered some Web Strings, only 2.58 for electric sets, I’ll tell you all how they rate. And also, I dont like when I palm mute and it goes sharp, does anyone make a stopper? Thank you, Jeff

I purchased one in the early 80’s for $300. It has the brass nut and bridge and inlays.I heard they were made fromlate 70’s to mid 80’s.Actual value to a music store is not much, but, the people that own them know that the deep tone is as good as it gets.It is a hard guitar to find. Most dealers and guitar shops have never heard of them. They might be an item someday,I’ll never part with mine.

As far as I know, Zach is preparing for the upcoming OzzFest tour. His band, Black Label Society, will be the opening band for the Main Stage on this year’s tour. He is also Ozzy’s main man for guitar work when The Ozz Man hits the deck as headliner of the Main Stage. I also believe during the break from last year’s OzzFest until now, he has been working on yet another album with BLS. Hope this helps…rock on! Carl

: Ok, I know that there are tons of great guitarists out : there (some of them on this site, right? hehhehe…), : but what taught you better, an actual teacher or did you : teach yourselves? Internet vs. Teacher……? hey, madman—-don’t rely on the internet to teach you anything–learning is by doing, and doing with other human beings is the best way to learn!! i consider myself self taught, but not without human interaction. the thing is, you need to learn the basics, and then feed your brain by listening to recordings and playing along with other musicians. yes, you can gain knowledge from the net, but–the best way to learn is to jam with someone who is better than you are!! we all know someone who knows more than we—tap into it!! and most towns that i’ve played in all have bars that feature open jam nights!! listen, —you have your guitar idols, you have the c.d.’s–sit down with your guitar and try to learn the stuff. if you have an ear you will pick it up in time. time is the key word—lot’s of practice—-jam on!!!!

A teacher, definatly! Because a teacher can make personal observations on what you need to work on…Picking,fingering,right-hand/left hand coordination and such.Example;one could learn all the theory in the world, but if they can’t play…what’s the point?? Good Luck

Was ‘self taught’ through school, and picked up alot playing constantly in bands… and at the time thought I was pretty good (but wasn’t, just a good hack), In early 20’s wanted to get to that ‘next level’ and and became more interested in other types of music (was into hardcore/metal back then) and nothing can beat a good teacher, theory and discipline defintely got me to the level I wanted and it has made it so much easier down the road… but on the flip side I know great players who are ‘self taught’, but I find that a loose term, as most good ‘self taught’ musicians have played (learned) from other musicians, which is like having a teacher, basically I think everyone learns from everyone they play with (and vice versa), even if it’s that you don’t like what/how they play :). : Ok, I know that there are tons of great guitarists out : there (some of them on this site, right? hehhehe…), : but what taught you better, an actual teacher or did you : teach yourselves? Sick chops, but even more impressive is his phrasing, tone and feel. Highly Recommended! I ordered his CD "THE MASTER PLAN" which comes out next week. Anyone here use that?! Ive tried it alot cuz I thought it would be really cool cuz I think it feels cool to anchor fingers on the guitar and move the pick with the fingers instead of the wrist or forearm but I didnt think it would work – I play best with my wrist and forearm both at the same time. Then I heard of a couple people that play fast that way and I tried it some more. Last night I started "accidently" ( ?! ) shredding with it – I played some licks from Yngwie’s "Far Beyond The Sun" and the last lick from that song at 160 16th notes and it felt so easy it was like cheating – like it took less physical effort for the same speed when I compared it to playing the same licks the way I usually do with my wrist and forearm together! I couldnt believe it was really happening cuz it was wierd. Like – if I think "move the fingers" its stiff, slow, and sloppy but if I think "pick fast in circles" it comes from the fingers naturally ( without telling myself to move from the fingers ) and its fast, comfortable, and acurate. Its not a "habit" to me so I cant play fast up and down all 6 strings very good and it seems hard to play metal rythym fast with it – I was trying "Angel of Death" by Slayer and "Fight Fire With Fire" by Metallica alot – I can play both at 170 ( with 16th notes ) with the wrist and forearm together but I could only do 140 with the fingers – maybe cuz it was hard to go from striking a chord and then back to picking fast with a motion Im not used to telling myself to make?!?! Does anyone else here play fast rythym and lead both with that?! Is that something you can use for everything all the time?! Everything – slow, fast, arpeggios, scalular, metal rythym, string skiping, … Cuz that seems like it could be a really fun way to play the guitar if you can!

Yes,I agree. When your fingers are anchored, you’ll lose speed because the wrist is locked.Circular picking doesn’t come over night, however.By practicing your speed and technique the fingers(right)will automatically begin to "gyrate".Steve Vai(Crossroads) has that shit down…because his BASIC technique is on the money!Gyrating doesn’t work in all situations though, but when running straight scales it improves accuracy.Sounds like you’ve been wood-shedding…cool!! Good Luck

Its amazing how much you can miss right under your nose!! You can go off on a topic as if its never been discussed on earth and not even know 70% of the posts in the same message board have been on that topic for 10 years! I found what I wanted to know on alot of message boards – it might be a good technique – Im gonna get an instruction video by a guy that plays that way and see what I think of his playing. I also found by accident – it seems nice to set your hand down naturally and keep your fingers where they are while your playing if you anchor. Ive always stuck them out straight ( in an unatural position ) when I anchor fingers. But I anchor 2 fingers – I dont know what that would be like with 3 fingers – I have small hands and I feel funny with 3 fingers on the guitar.
