i have a zoom 606 pedal, an ibanez grx40 guitar, and a dinky little 10w ibanez amp. now i know that the guitar is crappy and so is the amp but its all i have to work with at the moment. im trying to get a certain kinda sound with this setup. i want a distortion that is crunchy but not too bassy. i can get it like this but it just sounds like crap and its too trebley even with the treble turned down on the amp and zoom. can anyone tell me certain settings for the zoom i could try or reccomend another guitar/amp that would be good to get for a good creed/jimmy eat world kinda sound? how could i get the greatest improvement: by buying a new amp or a new guitar? i would really appreciate any help. thanx!

Hi, I decided to buy a pedalboard, but i’m not really sure of which pedalboard i’ll buy. Would you buy the Digitech RP200 or a Zoom 606? What dou you think of the RP200’s expression pedal? It’s too horrible? If it is I could buy a RP100 and a Wah, but it’s a lot more expensive. Please, help me. And the RP300?

I’ve read that real hollow bodies (like epiphone casino) lack sustain . On the other hand they feedback quite easily. So can’t you set for a mild overdrive and let your notes’ coda fall into feedback when you need an extra-long note?I’ve heard this in many pros recordings – i.e. think of slash , or grateful dead’s first acid-rock period or some srv – sing both solid and hollow bodies I think. Is it easy to control that situation with that kind of guitar?

I’m planning to buy a Godin LG (used), but I’m not too sure about the pickups. I’m choosing between a 1995 model with 2 tetrad pickups (1 tetrad pickup is 2 humbuckers) and a 2001 model with the seymour duncan sp90’s I play mostly rock, quite heavy, so I’m considering the older model withe the tetrads. On the other hand, it has to to have a good warm clean sound too, so I’m not sure what to do. I’ll play it through a bedrock 621 all tube amp anyone?? thanks

I have a Marshall mg30dfx i just got it brand new like 2 months ago and i’ve been playing pretty loud (most of the time volume cranked)to get over my drummer and now the sound keeps fading out and if i smack the side of the amp it will play normal. WHAT HAPPENED??

I have a problem with my marshall mg250dfx. I was playing with my band (with the master volume 3/4 of the way up) and my amp starts making buzzing sounds when i play notes on the 12the and 13th frets (on the low E string only). The strange thing about the situation is that the other guitar player’s amp (marshall mg100dfx) started doing the same thing. But his buzzes on frets 5-12. We have the same kind of guitars and the problems occured within a minute of each other. Please help me!!!

we’ll as much as I know marshall test the watt capasity by pushing the amp to the limit untill it blows and you’ve got a 30 watt amp and trying to keep up to the drummer in sound is pritty hard with a 30 watt you probebly shold have got the mg50dfx so do don’t have to push your amp to the limit

I just got my brand new Marshall mg30dfx amp about 3 days ago and turned it on and the digital effects worked fine. then then next time i went to practice later that same day it worked for about 5 minutes and then the effects cut out. ever since the effects will work for an hour, then stop working , or sometimes work for less that 30 seconds.im not sure if its the amp or the guitar so i cant really help, ive got the same problem, if i turn it up too much it cuts out. so im stuck and i dont know what the problem is with your amp.

Got on this site thinking I could get some helpful advise on getting started with the guitar, however, all I discovered, aside from Steve A., is a bunch of immature douche bags hacking on eachother with stupid names like ‘Bob the Nob’ and calling eachother "cockhead". Do I have to go to Juilliard to get some halfway decent musical advise?

This board has always been a garbage board where people just flame each other and call everything and everyone crap… so just sit back and have a good laugh… at all the crap, it’s pretty funny sometimes. : Got on this site thinking I could get some helpful advise on getting started with the guitar, however, all I discovered, aside from Steve A., is a bunch of immature douche bags hacking on eachother with stupid names like ‘Bob the Nob’ and calling eachother "cockhead". Halo I come from Latvia and my English language is not good…sorry I am interested in 7-string only What should I do to get my guitar (clean sound) sound very deep, full, thick, fat, rich, powerful (for example- like two or more guitars together playing the same)? Some of my ideas: to switch all pickups together (but wont it sound like poridge) or to use that "Roland" thing (too expensive for me) for clean sound that Wes Borland uses or to play with two AMP together… Maybe you know which guitar, pickup, AMP, combination or something else (some pedal or …?…) would solve my problem? I have heard that single pickup is better for clean sound than humbucker- is it true? If it is, than how about replacing neck humbucker with two single pickups next to each other/together? How would it sound? I would like to know some of your ideas. THANKYOU

Can anyone recommend a good site or book that teaches fusion guitar? I’m tired of just playing power chords. I’ve learned a ton of scales lately, which has added alot of color to my leads, but my harmony playing needs some added dimension.I like the chord progressions that are melodic and expressive, but yet I’m a rocker at heart, so I just need a way to combine the two "worlds" in a way that has both punch and harmonic expression. Thanks in advance.

Tom actually uses a Hammer Slammer in the studio and goes directly into the board, the effects are added there so as there being any ‘amp’ settings you would need a studio setup like his to emulate, which I doubt very few people have. On stage he uses the strat, because he is under contract to fender, and again he goes into the board and effects are added there, so the same applies about obtaining his exact sound. So I would concentrate on effects as with the right rig you could get that sound with any guitar/amp combo. Good luck getting that tone ! : plz i need to find out tom latest amp setup and setings!!!

No, the incaders are terrible pickups, way too much EMI that can lead to EMP’s that can potentially dammage an amp, not to mention your ears. I’m a self taught guitarist who have played for about a year now! You can imagine how that sounds!? 🙂 Anyway, I understand that rythm and variation in the sound that is produced through the guitar, is a combination of strokes, palm muting with the right hand and muting strings with the left hand. Is it not true? But how the h… do I mute strings with the left hand?? I’ve been trying for some time, but it really comes out sounding really crappy, to say the least! Are there any exercises that can help or maybe some good songs to practise on or even some webpages with cool information on the subject?? I play a western guitar and mostly I play Bob Dylan and different kinds of blues! I hope someone can help!? Thanks a bunch! If you need any Bob Dylan tabs, feel free to mail me. I have almost all his songs tabbed!

Left handed muting is used for muting the strings that you do not want to ring out such as power chords where you don’t want the higher strings to sound. Right handed or palm muting is used for effect and not necessarily for muting unwanted strings.

Hi! I’ve come across an old Framus Werke Spanish accoustic guitar, model no. 5/14, SE NO 61319 from Bavaria. Does anyone have any information on this particular model or maybe on a model like it? I’ve search all over the net but haven’t found anything? The funny thing about this guitar is that it is build a lot like a western, with a steel beam fortification inside the fretboard? It looks very old, but the production year is not known! I hope someone can help me!?

Palm muting is quite simple. you nsimply place your palm lightly over the bridge of your guitar,(the place where your stringscome into your guitar or near your last pick up.) WHile doing this you simply pluck the string when palm muting a chord it is easier and probabably sounds better if you only strike eirther the first string or the first to strings but never strike all three. I hoope this helped, it is a lot easier to showthan tell

I took a knife and put 4 two inch slits in the speaker near the outher edges. I f this doesn’t loosen up the sound enough, try adding more cuts. I’ve been working on an idea of running the headphone output back into my number two input but I think I need to add a volume control to the cord to control feed back. The sound is very punkish but I have to come up with a way to control it. Good luck.

You send em your demos, sign away your rights, and they can use them as they wish for free, and you don’t even get a ‘credit’ if they do use it in a film. there are allan screws that lock them into the blocks. Just unscrew onw and the string will come rightout. Make sure when you put new string in, to cutt of ball and not overtighten the bock. This can crack it and they are about 16$ a piece with shipping.

Well you might be able to get the superficial grunge off with a good oil soap like murphay"s then I would protect it with either light mineral oil or tounge oil. if the soap does not work you may need to result to emery cloth or even steel wool.

Thats happened on my teles w/maple necks, it’s just the finish wearing off from strings going the edges and general wear and is pretty normal, lighter fluid will get the green out but it will still be dark, you can clean it and touch up with some poly/nitro or whatever finish you got, but it really isn’t anything ‘bad’, pretty normal for a maple neck, some people actually pay to have necks that look all worn, I’am in the camp that ya gotta do it yourself, and the edges is where it starts. : I’ve just bought a 2 year old Ibanez rg550 which has a maple neck. Probally why you are in poland is because you suck ! You can’t even find a jazz musician ??? incredible, not at the universities or clubs ?? Are you so pathetic you can’t even find some dudes to sit in with ? Glad I haven’t ever been in your shoes, I would hate to suck like you. Heres some real advice, you should stick to crank yanking as that is probally the only skillz ya have, but don’t talk or brag about it in public, while you might be proud to tell others about your frequent mastrubation escapades, in reality it just makes you look/sound pathetic. Do they reall have kilbasa in poland ?? : : I don’t know what you are doing in poland but just jam with them, thats the best way to learn. : I am currently just yanking my crank and that is becoming more of a pain. How did you learn blues and jazz ? I learned the most by playing with others that were better than me, was much more effective than sitting home by myself and ‘yanking the crank’ as you do. Why is that worthless advice ? please tell us how you learned then since you seem to be mister smarty pants ? Your posts only critize mine, so how are they of any use ? or are you just jealous cuz I got the groove ? : : I don’t know what you are doing in poland but just jam with them, thats the best way to learn. : I am currently just yanking my crank and that is becoming more of a pain. I’m about 2 months late for this, but I’m gonna post anyway. I’ve heard of The Livid. I think they totally rock. Just to set the record straight. They have 2 CD’s out right now. King of the Castle and Fear of Fading. I think at the time of the original post they only had King of the Castle and a demo cd released. I saw tabs for "Falling Behind", off of the King of the Castle cd, somewhere once, but I don’t remember where. I emailed the guys about tabs and they sent me guitar tabs for "Egzit", off of the Fear of Fading cd. So if the person who originally posted about The Livid reads this, just email them and get some tabs. And if you get tabs for a song other than "Egzit" I’d appreciate it if you’d share them with me and I’ll send you the tabs I have.

Hello, just a quick briefing on the boys for a small town in Toronto…. They found an awesome new singer in Justin Humes. A BRAND SPANKING new drummer we call "Adam Benning" and a really cool bass player named Rob(last name to be discussed later). Chris Schembri(guitar) is still currently with the band, and rocking with those awesome licks as usual. Sites :www.thelivid.com(awesome site) http://www.purevolume.com/thelivid http://www.audiostreet.net/thelivid Hopefully that helped! Enjoy!

Does someone had/have a similar issue, even with some other preamps? i know that the AC30 has a great ‘compatibility’ with fx processors, so i was wondering "what about preamps"? Does people as The Edge use serial wiring? Any opinion appreciated. thanks in advance, Faisal

When I was young, I bought my first electric guitar for $20 from a friend of mine in Ohio. I’ve had others since, but have held on to it for nostalia sake. Its parts are pretty beat up at this point and I’d like to do what I can to refurbish it. However, after all these years I still don’t know the guitar’s make, model or anything! I was hoping that you might be able to help (I’m not that knowledgable about guitars, so I’ll do my best to describe it accurately.): As I said, it’s an electric. It has a V-shaped body, black with a white-stripe border, mimicking the V-shape. The "head" is that sort of scalene-triangle shape, with the tuning machines aligned on the left. Additionally, the only distinguishing script on the guitar – that I know of – is "State of the Art", written in white cursive on the head, parallel to the tuning machines. Unfortunately, that’s all I can really tell you. It’s surely some inferior off-brand. But, regardless, i respect it and would like to do what I can to save it. Any assistance that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

I hate her cat, it peed on my amp, I figure if I put it in the amp and crank it then it will be scared of the amp and leave it alone, are cats like dogs and capable of learning from example ? also what is the best way to prevent it from clawing at the speakers just to be safe, I don’t want to damage the amp, only the cat.

:Very risky. Very very risky. As all of us guitar players experience, our guitar and amp are more than just special to us–they’re like a part of us. Placing your amp in that type of danger; too risky. Stuff the cat into a sealable Folger’s coffee can. If the can doesnt fit in the amp, place the can right in front of your cabinet, that’s a pretty good spot for sound. i used to throw my old room-mate’s cat, when it was in heat, into my old nova and it trashed the tint something sick. : I hate her cat, it peed on my amp, I figure if I put it in the amp and crank it then it will be scared of the amp and leave it alone, are cats like dogs and capable of learning from example ? also what is the best way to prevent it from clawing at the speakers just to be safe, I don’t want to damage the amp, only the cat.

The coffee can sounds cool, he might be too big though, but I’ll give it a try, at the least it’ll be funny, if he dosen’t fit I was now thinking of putting a stick on his collar and securing it to the handle, that way he cant run away, or get too close to it. I just wanna scare the crap outta him so I have to make sure he knows where he is, and I don’t think I’ll put him in the amp, you are right there is too much of a chance he might get loose and damage it. I was thinking of taking pics if he spazs out while playing, and saving the patch to post on the line 6 site. : :Very risky. Very very risky. The cat actually went nuts on a really clean setting with full reverb/flange/treble/boost, and feedback (I just left the guitar against the front of the amp) worked the best, a success, I hope he stays away now. : The coffee can sounds cool, he might be too big though, but I’ll give it a try, at the least it’ll be funny, if he dosen’t fit I was now thinking of putting a stick on his collar and securing it to the handle, that way he cant run away, or get too close to it. If the can doesnt fit in the amp, place the can right in front of your cabinet, that’s a pretty good spot for sound. i used to throw my old room-mate’s cat, when it was in heat, into my old nova and it trashed the tint something sick. : : : : I hate her cat, it peed on my amp, I figure if I put it in the amp and crank it then it will be scared of the amp and leave it alone, are cats like dogs and capable of learning from example ? also what is the best way to prevent it from clawing at the speakers just to be safe, I don’t want to damage the amp, only the cat.

I own a valvestate 2000 avt 100 and it rocks like a m*****f***er. The 2nd overdrive channel really brings out the valve harmonics. Thats what really sold me on the amp.

I recently bought a new marshall avt 150 and for value for money it is the best marshall amp i have used. Of course if you can afford a better amp try and get a mesa boogie as they are the best amps going around at the moment. Still if you can’t then the AVT are pretty good. Alot of artists I know use them for gigs because they sound good and if they get smashed around a bit they don’t cost much to repair or even replace. If you want to hear one then go to my bands website at http://www.geocities.com/broken_alliance and click on the songs link. The first 3 songs listed all have links to our songs in which you can hear a clean tone, and distorion.

Hello guitar player anywhere, I’m an amateur guitar player trying to tune a guitar with a tremolo! I get the E string in tune with my piano and then tune the guitar in the usual way, but by doing so the whole tremolo block rises and as a result the low E is out of tune again. Repeating the procedure only makes the tremolo block rise to a very acute and incredibly stupid looking angle. I can find no way to lock the tremolo in place or think of an other trick to keep the tremolo in place while tuning. please help!

Hi, i had the same problem when i first replaced my floyd rose tremolo’s strings. In the back of the guitar’s body, you must have springs. You have to adjust them. To replace the springs, i recommend to use a 9V battery. Before doing anything, check this web sites, they have a lot of information. Good luck. http://www.homeguitarrepair.com/tremolo/tremolo1.html http://www.jacksonguitars.com/techtips/floyd_setup.htm

: Does anyone know where i could buy something for my belt to make the guitar spin… Ya know like ZZ Top? or do they just do somethin with their belts I don’t know about ZZ top, but I was an 80s guitar player and knew of a kit that was sold called "Spinz". This was a mount that could be mounted on the back of the guitar that attached to a special belt that the plug went into. The biggest problem with this was that it needed to be mounted in the center of the guitar so it would smoothly spin and come back to playing position. This usually took some trial and error and allways resulted in mounting it very close if not inplace of the neck plate. I have seen a couple of these done and on both the mount needed to be moved a couple of times to get it right resulting in multiple mount holes. I guess it is hard to judge the spinning center of the guitar. I still have an old Vantage that had this done. I really don’t need to spin it, but the belt mount is easier on your shoulders and gives you more freedom moving around. Good luck, Denny Wayne Schwartz

Bolt the other end to your belt. Tighten your belt. I’M JUST WONDERING WHY YOU WOULD WANT TO DO THAT.

Im thinking of selling this guitar and i dont know the price of it.when i bought it i was on holiday in america and its price was around $800 or more i think, but that was two years ago,so…is this guitar a special one off or is there more of these guitars around?if so what would be the asking price for one in british money..

My son recently inherited a black Stella guitar. It says on the label inside "The Harmony Company Model H5413B" Does anyone have any idea what this guitar is worth. He’s thinking of trading up for another guitar he’s fallen in love with and needs to know the value of the Stella. Any ideas?

Wow, those are cool! Try playing an A#9th 1st position. The headstock shape keeps you from bringing your hand back far enough to play it. But who plays 9ths on a guitar like that anyway? Ha, ha. Back to the subject…… JKLutherie is the only person on the planet that would have the parts. If he doesn’t have them, he will find them. Jay (the Guild Guy) from New Hope may have them but I’m putting my money on JKL. Good luck and rock on.

I have a solid state Ibanez GX-60 amp (that I’ve had since about 1988) that no "expert" player or repairperson can remember ever seeing before. Most say they had no idea Ibanez ever made amps. Anyone have any experience with these or info about them? It has a single 12" speaker and an overdrive switch–looks like it was modelled after an early MESA/Boogie amp. Ibanez simply returns my emails with a response to the effect that anything that old dates to a time before they bought the company, and basically to go f*** myself and my curiousity. Funny, they seem to not mind all the hullabaloo about the TS-9, which dates back well before that…

: : I own an Ibanez GX 60 since 1984. When I bought it, it was for rehersals, because my main amps are Marshall JCM 800 and Orange Overdrive 120 which are not very transportable… But the GX 60 became quickly my amp for some concerts and much more. It’s a "loyal" amp which never fall down and delivers a sound warmer than many solid state amps. I use it with a Jackson strat 3 single coils, a rat distortion, Ernie Ball volume, and Boss digital delay and with an acoustic jazz manouche guitar with magnetic pick up…Just the last week, the jack of the high input seems to have some problem but until that none problem. When I TAKE THE marshall OR the Orange, I TAKE ALWAYS my little IBANEZ, it makes me confident ..If you have any question I’ll try to answer but I’m not a technician and my english language is limited…Michel…

The pickups are active pickups , meaning you’ll be switching batteries all the time. Go with the HZ series.

Hi my band is entering a battle of the bands competition and we have to use the amps that are given to us. These amps are going to be Marshall 4212 combo’s. If anyone has some suggested settings for these amps it would be greatly appreciated as i have never used one of these amps before and there is really no time to muck around with them while your on stage. I’m looking for a kind of metallica/nickleback rock sound with a nice acoustic sound as well although any settings would be better than none.

I run Marshall and they rock. Try this for your metallica set up, gain at full, channel volume at full, bass at around 7 or 8, mids below 5 and treble around 5 or 6. Use the overdrive or lead channel and if it has 2 overdrive channels then use number 2 as this is where the casscading gain is usually found. If the channel has a scoop switch then use it.

why in hell would anyone want a fx unit in front of one of the worlds best sounding amps? Just plug in and crank it mate, two mins fannying around with the settings will get u a pure rockin’ sound – good enough for Zakk and Angus good enough for anyone!

Strings are cheap. Go out and experiment with some. I can’t imagine how you could permanently damage a guitar by testing different strings, gauges, tunings, etc until you find what you like. Don’t be ashamed to go to a music store, tell them you’re fiddling with getting new tones, and ask for advice. That’s why they’re there. If they give you any trouble, you’ll know where not to spend your money when you need to pay for something more involved than just a new pack of strings. You weren’t, by the way, very specific about what you meant by "classical" strings. Do you literally mean nylon strings, or are you just referring to acoustic guitar strings?

Never played a Wolfgang. I bought a 94 white Les Paul Custom on ebay, the action is very low and plays and sounds great for most jazz or rock. If you are into heavier rock (as I am) a Seymour Duncan in the lead spot would be better. Just haven’t gotten to it yet.

Get the Les Paul, even though gibson quality has gone to the shitter as of late. It is far nicer on playability and tone. Not to mention if you need further variety you can always put in come coil selectors and phase switches.

What’s up with this piece of junk. Your paying $400 or more for a watered down strat just because of who indorses it basically. If you look on MTV he himself doesn’t even play it most of the time. If you want one that bad simply buy a stratocaster (preferably a squier bullet because thier cheap), then take off the pickguard and all of those precious pickups and replace it with one (yes just one) seymor duncan humbucker, then buy a new pickguard to fit that. This will give you an even better guitar than the $400 dollar one because you’ll still have tone toggles, for a little over half the price (mabye even less depending on where you buy the humbucker). Although I will say that Seymore Duncan Ivaders are pretty sweet.

: What’s up with this piece of junk.

I bought a sunburst strat body and made it a "Tom delonge strat". I tell you, perhaps if I’d see a tom delonge strat that looks like my "tom strat" I’d buy it without a doubt for 400 dollar$. And it’s more fun playing something you put your own touch to. /Persha of DWINE freewebs.com/dwine

that piece of junk is one of the best things I have ever played!! I think so because it has the awesome blink182 sound that most people love and it only has one voume control switch. I think it iss genious and i dont think it is a piece of junk. And,even though i prefer bass this strat is very bautifully made and i woud pay "$400" for it.

I totally disagree with that post im sorry, but it pisses me off when people say that.. I want to buy a Strat: yes, part of the reason is because Tom plays that kind- but who wouldnt want to play the same guitar that a hot sexy babe plays? I WOULD! AND I AM! i think that people should be allowed to buy a guitar for what ever reason they want-if they want to get a guitar like Toms fine.. they can do that.. and thats what im gonna do.. buy a guitar like tom..cuz i love blink and i love punk so go to hell

Have to agree this thing is a serious piece of shit, not like most fenders aren’t any way. If you want ten times the guitar with the same basic tone/ a better bridge and neck. Buy a lower end RG series Ibanez and put an invader in it. This will cost about 300$ and kick far more ass.

As far as I know all gibson Explorers are mahogany except for the limited korina models which are a little more pricey. I have 2 explorers, a real 1976(not a reissue) and a 1990. Both play great and are favorites in my collection. Stay away from the 1980’s Gibsons, their quality was down at that time. I have an 81 Flying V that the craftsmanship is marginal at best. You can pick up a nice used one for $650-$750, don’t pay more then that no matter how nice some a-hole tells you it is(unless that a-hole is me). Happy hunting.

Since you are taking lessons your teacher should be able to give you advice here, try as many as you can and find one that feels and sounds good to you, run it by your teacher, and then look around for the same model used. : im going to take guitar lessons soon but i want to get a guitar. I have never seen creed or blink but they sound like they have already latched on to my unique style and showmanship. : : : : : : : : : I am starting to believe that there are no interesting guitar players out there. I have a Boss SD-1 in my rig but need a distortion pedal to boost it for solos etc. What’s the best? (My amp is Vox AC30 ie. clean and loud) Thanks Jim

overdrive is better for solos, overdrive is a combo of light distortion compression and sustain. you can even combine the two pedals as long as you get the leveling right, probably only a good idea for recording.

Hi Can anyone tell me if the GT-3 is capable of creating the ‘slow attack’ (violin) type effect which is found on some of the Zoom effects units? I’m very interested in buying a GT-3 but can find no mention of this effect in any of the specifications.

I have always wanted to play guitar, and I’m to the point I’m seriously thinking about buying one. I took eleven years of piano as a kid, and still play well enough to make a little extra money doing weddings and cocktail parties once in a while. Has anyone out there that previously played piano had much difficulty learning guitar? The very basics of reading music are similar, but the only similarity the instruments themselves have are that they’ve both got strings. Are lessons important, or can I probably teach myself with a good instruction book and regular practice? I know some people teach themselves successfully, but is this common, or the exception?

I’ve been taking piano for a few years and have now decided to take guitar. I’ve been taking it for a few months and actually have found having background in piano to make it easier to learn/understand how to play guitar. If you really enjoy piano, a 12-string acoustic guitar is the way to go. I have two Yamaha guitars, a six string acoustic and a 12-string acoustic. I’ve played both and really enjoy the 12 string better. It’s a much more refined/pretty sound.

I have a question. I am a beginner electric guitar player and recently heard a real catchy tune (or guitar lick to be specific) being played on nearly all the local radio stations. It is a commercial advertising "BP Amoco Gas" and is receiving major nationwide playtime coverage. There is a part of this commercial that is hosted by a male voice endorsing the use of BP Amoco Premium gasoline for performance automotive usage. And after he says "Performance" there is this really cool electric guitar lick with lots of overdrive from the amp. that starts playing, like an introduction at the beginning of a song, and then it just quits. I would like to know what the guitar chords & notes are so I can take them to my teacher or friends and let them show me how to play this. I do not have a recording, and I have searched the Internet for an MP3 or some kind of information regarding this commercial and have come up with nothing. Surely someone knows something about this catchy little guitar lick. As I said, it is really cool sounding, at least from a beginner’s perspective. Thanks, Lance

I don’t know the commerical, but I’ve gotten commerical lines by contacting the station and asking for the air times and then recording them, also try contacting BP, they might tell you who produced it and then ask that house, as a last resort just do blind recording and scan the tapes. : I have a question. I want to replace the crappy volumn/tone potentiometers on my Epiphone Alleykat with genuine Gibson pots. What is the difference in the 500K OHM and the 300K OHM pots? How do I know which ones to install? What’s the diffeence in sound between the two?

I would use the same value pots (probally 500k cuz it has humbuckers, but not sure about the mini value as I’ve never had one) installed, just look on the back of em for the value, and you can get percision pots from digikey and places like that, they are rated better than the gibson post and about 1/3 the price. You can add/replace caps on each of the tone controls to modify the frequency response curve, I find this a better way to customize the freq. response than just changing the pot value. : I want to replace the crappy volumn/tone potentiometers on my Epiphone Alleykat with genuine Gibson pots. My 12 y/o daughter is a prodigy 6 octave vovalist that has never had lessons and recently she has developed one high note that when she sings it her voice cracks and jumps to other note??? It is starting to go away now but what causes this. Is it just a growing stage? This had her worried as she wants to break wine glasses and is aspiring to become the best vocalist. : My 12 y/o daughter is a prodigy 6 octave vovalist that has never had lessons She is developing a natural break. If it is around D above high C, she is a soprano. This is from the cartilage hardening with maturity. This mostly occurs during puberty, but continues on into the 40s. This is why really great opera singers are in their 40s -power! This break becomes more pornounced with age unless you train. I liken it to getting a bigger motorcycle every few years: more to control, but more power. If you really want a great career for her, you will have to invest, just like with a violinist. My feeling is, if you can’t afford a REALLY good teacher for a child, which will cost upwards of $60 an hour for the rest of her life, then don’t do it at all. Female vocalists are easy to wreck with the wrong teacher, but when you have the right teacher WOW! If you can’t afford it, just singing a lot is the way to do it, get her into choirs and fun things, and keep it fun, a relaxed voice is the best voice — sing from the pelvis! A really good teacher will help keep the range, but the wrong training will take several years with a good teacher to undo. Been there!

I had a similar problem but this is common in 12 year olds, they go thurough puberty and their voices change, so don’t worry about it as it goes away. Just make sure she stays real thin and hot though because looks are more important for a pop career. : My 12 y/o daughter is a prodigy 6 octave vovalist that has never had lessons and recently she has developed one high note that when she sings it her voice cracks and jumps to other note??? Back in 1965, my Dad bought me a Kay electric (I think it was a Swingmaster) and I lost it at college in the 70s. I love my Strat but I want to find a Kay like the one I had. I only have a few old photos to go by. It was a thin hollow-body single cutaway electric with sunburst finish; two raised pickups in clear plastic mounts; a white pickguard mounted above the guitar with a small bracket; 4 pots for treble/bass and volume, and a toggle switch selector. Can you help me identify this guitar with the little info I’ve provided? Do you have one for sale, either now or in the future? Thanks!

Strangly enough, my dad bought one of those for me sometime around the same time you got yours! I too have been looking to replace it for sentimental reasons. Recently I lost the bid for one on eBay. I was very dissapointed I must say. I was wondering if you had any luck finding one for yourself. The photo of mine was sort of an accident. It just happened to be in the background of the photo and is a very grainy, dark photo. Too bad. Here I am searching the web today for one and I came across your request. Well, just curious. Thanks, Allen Storey [email protected] : It was a thin hollow-body single cutaway electric with sunburst finish; two raised pickups in clear plastic mounts; a white pickguard mounted above the guitar with a small bracket; 4 pots for treble/bass and volume, and a toggle switch selector. : Can you help me identify this guitar with the little info I’ve provided? Sure, you can get chords off the computer, but who wants to sit in front of a computer while playing/practicing the guitar? I hate too say it but yes Metallica did SUE napster. They SUED them good. But Metallica don’t care about making money. Most of the money made from selling cds goes to record companies anywway (like 95%) so why anyone would bother sueing napster because they are getting ripped off. WIth metallica their music is their life, their love and for some (especially James and Lars) their heart. Imagine coming home and seeing someone screwing your significant other. You would want to beat the crap out of them. With Metallica distributing their music over the internet is (screwing with their significant other) and since you can’t beat napster up you have to SUE them.

Hi i just read your statements about colleti guitars from last year, we also are keen to learn more about them. My mum who works in a school has found a colleti guitar been used in the classroom itself by 7 year olds! As a keen guitarist myself i am willing to buy this guitar off the teacher for a small sum of money (since shes crazy and knows nothing of them) and refubish it, and make it appealing again. I was wondering since statement about wanting to gain further information about these guitars was done a year ago now, if you now have any information on these beautiful guitars?

Thanks in advance 12 strings have wider necks to accomodate the extra strings, and may be hard for a beginner to chord. Also, the six extra strings mean six more strings to keep in tune and more maintenance. That’s about all the cons I can think of. I would suggest a six string ather than 12 string for the beginner…

I recently bought an Epiphone Alleykat with a tuneomatic bridge. I like the bridge because it gives a lot of leeway to adjust the string height and intonation. However, after setting it up and playing for a few hours, it seems to gradually work its way down which creates string buzz, etc. I find this odd, because with the string tension after setup and tuning, the bridge adjusters seems firm and not prone to move. Has anyone else run into this dilemma? It could be easily solved by a drop of loctite after setup, but I was wondering if this would be a satisfactory solution. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I plan to repace the metal saddles with graph tech saddles.

A COMMON PROBLEM INDEED, THE STRING VIBRATIONS CAUSE TUNE-O-MATIC BRIDGES TO DO THAT, LOCKTITE ISN’T STRONG ENOUGH, I WOULD REPLACE IT WITH LOCKING TUNERS, THEY LOCK BETTER THAN LOCKTITE. : I recently bought an Epiphone Alleykat with a tuneomatic bridge. Hi, I have the possibility to buy a used Goya bass (4 strings). It’s a copy of a Rickenbacker 4001 Fireglow (or something like that). How much should I pay for this. The guy wants around 300$ canadian. If it’s in good shape, is that a good deal? How is the quality of the pick ups on those copy? Will I have to change them to get good sound? Anything you know about Goya bass will interest me so write me. I’ll appreciate any information. Thanks Guy

: : Does this new design make sense? Any downsides to owning a Taylor? To answer your question, the new neck design makes alot of sense. If you’re thinking of buying a Taylor, you can go to their website and order a video that shows you all about the new design, free of charge. They demonstrate how the new neck’s headstock is about 3 times stronger. If a guitar is dropped, 9 times out of ten, the headstock will break. They show that it would break elsewhere if it’s gonna because the new design is so strong. I owned a 614ce. I found NO downsides to the guitar at all. It plays beautifully and looks just as good. A definite 10 all the way!!

I recently stumbled over an Ibanez ge-10 eq at a flea market, brought it home and it sounds great! Looks old, but other that that, its mint. Made in Japan., got it for $50 Canadian. Anyone have any comments about these pedals? Was this a good deal? How old are they?

Hi guys and gals, this might be ot but I am looking for some good gituar music. What I have in mind is long gituar freestyle that is like back in the 70’s where the gituarist goes off and you totally trip out and get transported to another dimension. Stuff that you would typically hear only at concerts. Please let me know if you have any favorites that fit this description that I can get a hold of. Thanks

I am his wife I know, I hear him all the time, what I don’t hear is a guitarist that can touch his style. He has played for 35 years and finger picks a Gibson les paul recording for electric solo, and finger picks flamenco on a steel string ovation. He is very diverse so to put a finger on him is hard but he can mimic any of the best but chooses his own freestyle. So if you like to go on a guitar voyage! I have his permission to let you hear "Whales Cry, Oceans Flood" for critique from guitar lovers. If you like page, gilmore, santana, satriani, etc., you will like him!

Ok, thanks, but i’m not really sure about what is an overdrive or a fuzz pedal. My question is if the distortion DS1 pedal has enough gain… The Overdrive pedal is a distortion with overdrive? i mean, i’d like to be able to pass from a clean sound to distortion. Can the overdrive or de fuzz do that or i have to use the amp’s distortion? thanks

I think the metal zone is too much for zeppelin. If you want their sound. I would suggest you check into one of marshalls pedals. Perhaps a marshall Guv’ner II. That should be good enough. If you play more sixties rock get a fuzz pedal, like the US big muff. If you play more 70’s, get the guvnor. Or if you only have $40 get the ds-1. I have one but it sounds too lo-fi for me. Its good for grunge and punk.

I was wondering if I could replace my Ibanez GAX75’s Body pickup with an EMG-81, I know the EMG needs a battery access and I’m not sure I can adapt it to the GAX if anyone knows if it’s possible without damaging the body, I’d be grateful to know, Thanks.

you would have to install the volume pot provided with the pickup too, so if your guitar has other pickups, that might cause a problem, cause actives don’t mix well with passives. if the battery fits in the cavity, it’s fine.

Particularly on the Adrenaline album, does that tone come from his Seymour Duncan JB pickups, or does he use some particular distortion unit? thanks…
