Polish a Scratch on my Ovation

Hi, I have a Standard Baladeer Ovation, made in the US. My friend played a few
times and it got scratched by the nails on it´s solid top. My guitar has a very
high gloss finish, I guess it should be polymer, would any one share a tip on how }
polish out this scratches made by the nails?, I´ve tried with rubbing compound
(automotive) and it just got worst. Thanks.

Jorge

Re: Polish a Scratch on my Ovation

Fender do a polish kit,it comes with 3 types of polish and a special cloth, they made it with an american car (think it was macintyre or something like that) polish firm, ive used it and found it to be very good, i know others on here have found it not to be so good, give it a try, the compound polish you used is far too harsh, try the fender kit.

Re: Polish a Scratch on my Ovation

Every single book out there will tell you. Cut your friggin nails. Make a choice 1.short nails 2. choose another instrument 3. buy a static cling clear pickguard that is removeable-(best idea). Scratches are what add character, part of reality (nothing lasts forever). It's a throw-away guitar anyhow (plastic back). Scratch it till it bleeds or has a Willie Nelson hole in it. What doesn't show wear? Sex parts show wear even if you spit shine em.

Re: Polish a Scratch on my Ovation

im with you Jorge, i think scratches add character to certain guitars, the only guitar i regulary polish is my Rickenbacker 360/V64, it a fireglow finish and its like glass, those ovations are too, he does need to cut those nails, never wear a jacket with a zip when playing as those zips can scratch the back of the guitar (although the ovations have plastic backs so thats the least of your worries). in short, if you love it then take care of it.
and willies Trigger has a fantastic tone.

IBANEZ LAWSUIT MODEL

: I HAVE AN ELGER HOLLOWBODY GUITAR WITH A OPENBOOK OR MUSTACHE HEADSTOCK LIKE GIBSON. **IBANEZ LAWSUIT MODEL. HOW WOULD I FIND THE VALUE OF THIS GUITAR?

Re: IBANEZ LAWSUIT MODEL

Try a Gen Gakki search. They made alot of that type of stuff. I came across a site with similar stuff comparing the openbook headstock lawsuit hype. This one particular site even will show the types that were really lawsuit stuff and weren't. Who really knows who Gibson sued. Think about it. Ask Gibson who they sued.

Wanted: Fender Mustangs!

I'm looking to buy a Fender Mustang; Competition or otherwise. Vintage unimportant, as long as nothing's too broken and its in one piece. Reply to this message or email me if you are interested in selling one.

I'm looking to pay $100 - $200 Canadian, or whatever that comes to in American dollars.

Thanx.

Re: Wanted: Fender Mustangs!

Is $100 like $500 American in Canada? That's what you're looking at unless you scalp one at a yard sale from an unsuspecting seller. Mister those are worth quite a bit if vintage try buying a new copy and see what they sell for. A JagStang is $529 at Musician's Friend. Good luck. I ain't saying it can't be done but web surfers aren't that generous.

A few Fender decals up for grabs!

I have a few leftover Fender decals from past restoration projects. I have no need for them any more.

Re: A few Fender decals up for grabs!

I'll take them. Email me at pitzel_001@hotmail.com

Thanks so much.

Re: A few Fender decals up for grabs!

if anyone wants any go to ebay.co.uk and type 'decals'
the guy is in england charges $16 a transfer, all different types, mostly fender ones, of course once you buy them from ebay nobody will ever bid on any of your autcion items.

Re: A few Fender decals up for grabs!

Why do you have these, where did you get them, why hasn't Leo Fender returned from the grave to kick your door in and drag you out? Do you have a criminal record? Are these real? Did you print them on a Testor's model car decal kit as sold at Walmart? When are you going to get a job? Did you clean your room? Hee hee

And.. i had a problem with amp buzz just like neil, except that my reply from guitarman was something along the lines of piss off you lazy bastard, stop clogging up the forum. Sorry-ive always wanted a good bitch at him. Those rolands do look luvlee tho.

The best amp for under 600 dollars....

I want to know what the best amp for under 600 dollars is. I want a good amp that has the largest range of tones in the price range. I as close to crystal clear cleans and house wrecking distortion. I want the warm clear ring and still have the deep thud of a nice palm mute... Suggestions?

Beginner looking for help

I want to learn to play the guitar but when I start a new thing I always research everything first. My main question is: Is it easier to learn on an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar? or is there no difference? Another question that I have is: Are any of the video lessons that I have found on-line any good? If so which one is the best? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Josh

Re: Beginner looking for help

I started on a fairly cheap acoustic and then moved to an electric (still fairly cheap) and I can catagorically say that electric is easier and your fingers will be extremely grateful. It's just a lot easier to keep the strings down. You can then buy an amp with acoustic modelling (like the Roland Cube 30, which is very good and nice and cheap) and make your electric sound like an acoustic if that's what you want (although not completely like an acoustic).

I've been playing for about 6 months and have both and still play both but in my opinion the electic is easier and offers more versitility and more instant gratification.

In the UK we have a TV channel dedicated to musicians and it has beginner, intermediate and advanced guitar shows on it that are very goood.

The biggest problem I have is with Theory. I still can't get my head around it but then I think I started a bit late (late 30's).

Best of luck, and have fun.

Re: Beginner looking for help

what TV channel is that?

Re: Beginner looking for help

It's called the musicians channel, its on channel 475 if you have Sky

Re: Beginner looking for help....PLAY WHAT YOU WANT !!

When I got my first guitar,my mom told me to start on acoustic! She dragged me kicking and screaming to the music store."I wanna play electric music, darn it!!"
So,she asked the guitar dude,"Shouldn't he start on acoustic guitar?" The dude said,"WHY...I started on electric." I WAS BLESSED,man!
As I matured a bit I slowly gravitated towards the acoustic. But I am an ELECTRIC player by nature...I grew up in the 70's!

Re: Beginner looking for help

Hey Josh,

Electric and acoustic guitar are two quite different instruments. It isn't better to start with one of them. Just choose the instrument your feel most for. If that happens to be the electric guitar, as in my case, just start with that.

Explorerfanatic

Totally Ignorant........

Hi,
I recently purchased a new laptop with win.xp operating system, and plenty of memory. It has a program called sonic stage installed on it. I am a complete novice with anything that has to do with music so bear with me on this. My husband finger picks a martin for leisure and is actually pretty good. I was wondering if there was a way to plug the jack he uses to hook to his amp. directly to the line in, or mic jack, to my lap so that we can record some of his music to a file and then burn it onto a dvd/cd. So the first question is what type of software if any is there for this type of application. Also, what type of converter would he need to hook to the end of his amp plug to make compatable to the jack on my laptop. I have read a few of the messages on this site that sound like they may be refering to the same type of question I am asking, but the answers are so technical I havent a clue to what it all means. Also what type of file format would you save the guitar recording to, so that it could be burned. Last but not least I saw a company on this site advertising a software program called "cake walk", would this be what I am looking for. I realize your answers will more than likely be over my head but if you give me a/b&c to follow I will have a starting point, and my husband can take it from there. Thanks so much for anyone who has the patience to reply.

japan fender strat 1974

i am from turkey istanbul. i bought a japan fender strat, and they told me that it is made around 1974.
i heard that, around those years, japaniese fenders were limited edition
please inform me if anyone has an idea

Re: japan fender strat 1974

It sounds more like a 1984 model since Fender didn't have an official deal with a Japanese contract til 1982. I could be wrong but that is what I read in a Fender book about the Stratocaster. "The Fender Stratocaster" (Mediapresse-Hal Leonard Publishing Corp)

El Degas GB 24

My Dad has a 12-string El Degas GB 24, ser# 4120047, which he purchased around 1975... Is there any connection between El Degas and Gibson? The reason I ask is that his guitar looks exactly like the "Gibson Hummingbird", all except for the the inlays on the neck and the name. I've done some history on Gibson and have found nothing relating to El Degas... could someone give me some information on El Degas guitars........Please??!!
